Walmart Cake....Keep in mind this actually happened!

I haven't been to a Wal-Mart in years but I can tell you that they don't exactly hold high standards for their employees. (I have a DSIL and DMIL who work their right now.)
Oh, no you didn't! :rotfl2:

I told myself I wasn't going to post on this thread again but I couldn't help myself ;).

FWIW, I have shopped on Wal*Mart only a couple of times in the last few years for the very reasons you mentioned. I only shop while on vacation and I totally regret the last time I shopped there. I bought a book light for my DD (we were driving to FL from WI) and when I opened it up I noticed that I needed a teeny tiny screwdriver to open the battery door (of course, the batteries were not installed or included). I tried to use my DH's pocket knife (wrong tool for the job!) and cut myself so badly we had to stop to get stitches. We were back on our way in an hour and hundreds of dollars later. So, yeah. I don't blame myself for using the wrong tool. I blame the Wal*Mart for selling a book light that needs a specialty screwdriver to open the battery door it because one of the sliding/latching battery doors might have cost a few cents more :rolleyes1. Well, not really. It was my fault.

For the record, that little screw on the battery compartment is on just about EVERYTHING now that could possibly be purchased for small children. It's a safety standard so kids don't open it and swallow the batteries, that law was passed sometime around 2000, it has nothing to do with costing a few cents more.

BTW, I find it annoying as well.

Thanks for the update. I didn't know that before but now that I think about it that makes sense. I feel better now that it is 100% my fault :rotfl:.

Okay, I respect your opinion. I just have a different one.

Maybe I'm taking it personal because I just got a job there. (Btw, I'm only 16. This is my first job, I'm just looking to do something other than sit around the house all day. I'm already graduated.) But everyone seemed very friendly. And I see it as disrespectful to make generalizations that all WM employees are dumb or uneducated.

Woah! I didn't call Wal-Mart employees dumb and uneducated. I certainly wouldn't say that about my own MIL and SIL whom I love dearly. I was talking about the company and how, as an employer, it has low expectations and little respect for its employees. That means, that you can be as smart and educated as you want, but if your employer demands next to nothing of you when it comes to customer service skills and the use of common sense, many people will not bother exerting much energy in those areas.

Also, Wal-Mart does its hiring from the unskilled worker pool, as do most minimum wage-offering employers. That means that it gets all kinds of people working there on every end of the intelligence spectrum. That's why you are more likely to get a cake mistake like in the OP in the bakery of a Wal-Mart than from an accomplished pastry chef, for instance.

Hysterical Thread, thanks for the laugh, I needed it after being sick for a few days!:thumbsup2 OK, so I work at Publix, and a cake came thru my line that said: and I quote: HAPPY BIRTHDAY FE-MALE'. This was the young lady's ACTUAL Name! Oh, yea, they spelled it right....

Oh I know that's not what you said in particular, I was talking about other posters. And honestly you're right. They don't demand good education backgrounds for their employees, and most of them quit very early. When I was interviewing I didn't see the greatest spectrum of people. I'm probably taking it way too personal. I know who I am, I don't need to prove my intelligence to people who look down upon all WM employees (again, not talk about you.). :)

I have tears streaming down my face :lmao: :lmao:

Thanks for the laugh :rotfl2:

I'm sorry but I assume that anyone who would actually write "under neat" on a cake without questioning it or double checking is a few hammers short of a bag. It is funny and I think that the OP is believable. Sorry that it offends you but I'm still going to laugh. :rotfl2:

I've seen it an another board where the person claimed it was her friend that ordered it.

Still makes for a good laugh.

Sorry to bump up this old thread, but I wanted to add my experience. I went to a Vons grocery store and ordered a cake for my wife's B-day. I told the lady I wanted it to say Happy Birthday, but I wasn't picky about the other decorations - "surprise me" I think were my exact words. I expected maybe some frosting flowers, or balloons, what I got was...

a shoe

A stiletto heel to be exact. Right in the middle of the cake. Sorry, no pics. I would have said I was disappointed, but we couldn't stop laughing, so maybe that's not the right word. DEFINITELY surprised though.

Guess that's all she had in her............
