WalMart and returns w/o reciept Q?

They don't do this now. I've returned so many things to Walmart in the last year without a receipt (I would estimate around 50,) and have never had any kind of problem. You will only get store credit though, but otherwise you're fine. Also, as long as it's something that Walmart sells (online or in store) you can return it to the store without a reciept a get store credit for that amount.

I think some stores do since this was just taken off their site yesterday.. I will say, when you return something at my local one, they do ask for ID. That day I went to return my doggie T-Shrit, even with the rec'pt (after fighting with them), they did ask for my ID..oh and I only had bought the item less than 7 days prior. I paid for it with my Visa Card & they refused to put it back on there, they gave me cash... which that is a no-no with the credit card companies.. So my conclusion with Wal-Mart is, each territory/zone must do what it wants regardless of Corporate procedures.
On Black Friday I read that Wal-mart was going to give out tickets for the EB items, I went to the one in Orlando on John Young Parkway & they did not, yet my local one did... again, I think they do as they want on some things.

While each of us have different transactions with Wal-Mart, we cannot say for sure what they do or don't do. I know what they have done to me, others cannot say that it didn't happen, just as I cannot say their transactions weren't handled that way. The best thing to do with Wal-mart is to go in person & ask.. but if you didn't purchase it online & you say you did.. that I know they can track due to the paperwork involved.
:goodvibes

You're going to never shop at Toys 'R' Us again because they enforced their return policy? Really?

Heck, just sell the extra one on Craigslist.

Too bad that store backed down. Your credit card company would not have sided with you, since you had the merchandise and simply changed your mind.

Yes, I know they would have.. the kicker was when they did finally give me the refund, they gave me cash  I told them to look at the rec't, that it was paid for with my CC. They still refused.. and yes, with the cash return, they did ask for my ID... Seems to me, they should have just placed it back on my CC instead of taking cash from their draw... unless they did plan on doing that to "track me"....

I've had exactly the opposite experience. When I was expecting DD I had 2 baby showers and registered at Babies R Us and Target. I also received several gifts after the baby came. Several items came from Walmart (knew by the tags and asked someone on a larger item) but on my second trip back to Walmart I was given a very nasty lecture on Walmart policy that I could only make 3 return transactions (i guess the number of items doesnt matter, just how many times) in a calendar year. The girl (about 20 yrs old) told me this was my 2nd time, told me all about my first transaction and went on and on about how I only get one more. I felt like I was being scolded like my mother, and it wasn't even the 3rd time! It was embarrassing and I will never forget it. She wasn't just informing me of the policy either...her tone was completely degrading.

Last night I had to return a couple Christmas gifts to Walmart and I got butterflies in my stomach waiting for the employee to go off on me...even tho its been well over a year! I will never forget that experience. And they do still ask for ID.

I also keep in mind now for baby & bridal showers to get gift receipts if I'm not shopping at their registered stores. If they register the for the item then those stores don't require the gift receipt. Since I'm married and had our 1st baby I dont have to worry about large events with multiple gifts, but I do tell my friends to hold off making returns until a few weeks after the main event so they can do it all at one time. Its better to return 5 items in one time than going multiple times.

I return things a few times a year. I have NEVER had any problems at walmart. Kmart, Taget and Toys r us can be pains but walmart is great! If it is in their system when they scan it they will issue you a gift card. I would try. Worst that will happen is they will tell you no.

I know one time my DH purchased some food items at the local Nieghboor-hood Wal-mart. Within 3 days the bread was moldy. I asked DD to return it (she was going that way), she did, without the rec'pt. They refused to do anything for her. She had never even returned anything there, never mind without a rec't. You could tell it came from them, it was their brand, you could tell we didn't have it long, it had the best if used by on it.. and that date hadn't arrived  She called me, I found the rec'pt in the check book (thank God.. just to shove it in their face) she came home got it & went back down to them with the rec'pt. They then promptly gave her a refund.. now all this because she didn't have a rec'pt for the bread!! Bread that was under $2. If we didn't live so close, I wouldn't have had her come home to get it. We are less than a mile from there, so it wasn't a big deal & I wanted them to see.. yes, it came from your store, 3 days ago & it is moldy.. and we want a refund. So it all depends on the customer service person behind that desk. Had it been me, I would have asked for manager instead of having to go home to get the rec'pt but my DD wasn't like that.

I wouldn't shop there again either and I would send an email to the address on their website for customer service or corporate or whatever. I can understand their 45 day policy, but they should have the common sense to know that Christmas gifts are bought well ahead of 45 days many times. Most stores (or at least the ones that are concerned about keeping customers) waive their polices right after Christmas. Most of the time these kinds of things are up to the customer service rep in the store. Not giving the customer a store credit was just bad customer service on the part of TRU.

As for WalMart backing down, Walmart was built on customer service and although that has gone down a lot in recent years, I don't think a few dollars for a t-shirt is something a employee would want to come back and bite them. They don't want anyone to leave unhappy. Its a much better business decision to give the pp a refund and know she will be back on a regular basis than to take a stand on a few dollars and lose a customer.

Edited to add: anyone that has been treated badly by WalMart or had issues with returns, don't hesitate to email them with a complaint. Go to their corporate website and there is either a customer service link or "contact us" or something to that effect. I did this and got a phone call from their district manager that same day. He took immediate action and solved the problem (mine wasn't about a return). He even made sure I had his direct number so that if I had any further issues in the store he could take care of it immediately. They really do value customer service on that level.

I have purchased items in the Wal-mart on Turkey Lake Rd, then went to return it at my local Wal-mart & was refused. They said they didn't have it in their system. I had my receipt too! They claimed even with the receipt, if not in "their" system, they cannot return it. She went on to say that not all Wal-marts carry the same items. It was a doggie t-shirt.. nothing "Disney oriented" that you would expect your local store not to carry.. it was something you would have thought they all carried the same... so just be careful of what you purchase and where you purchase it at. I fought with them & told them I was going to call my credit card company to reverse the charges. After that, they did give me my refund.. as they put it "manually".. they had to key everything in...

My understanding has always been that anything bought at any Walmart can be returned to any Walmart. That's one reason I've always been comfortable purchasing at any Walmart. I've never had a problem returning anything either (even when they didn't seem to carry that particular item).

It sounds like (from reading these posts) some stores like to make up their own rules as they go along. :confused3

Two things in regards to things said:
First, you have to have a receipt when returning food items. One of the reasons is that it could have been purchased with EBT or WIC.

Second, yes you can try and return W/O receipt but it has to be in the system. Also, you assume that you would get $80 credit. Keep in mind, most Walmarts have done major markdowns on toys. My store has markdown alot of toys as much as 50%. I've seen some very irratated people come in to return items w/o a receipt and expect one price only to get half that. Just be warned that the item may have been clearanced.
