You use to be able to walk near the shuttle area and gain access to the pool area but now it says "employees only". Inside the HRH pool area the sign that reads "access to theme parks" now has tape covering up the arrow pointing the path. They don't want people using this path for whatever reason now and I thought I should mention it since I recommended walking that path instead of boating or walking around to the front. We were already there by the time we figured out the change so lifted a kid over the gate to buzz us in but will take the boat next time. fyi.............

I wonder why they changed that? That was such a short walk to the park. Actually you can still just walk around the path instead of cutting over by the shuttle area. It's not that much further to walk. It still takes less time than the water taxi.

We ignored the signs last week and used that gate anyway!:teeth:

We noticed this, too ! We thought the change might be due to Charley damage, so we walked all the way around ! We really missed this short cut!

Anyone know whether the change will be permanent?

We were wondering about the gate as well. The convenience of that pathway was top notch! After our first venture out to the parks last week we discovered this. The gate we came upon had a bunch of signs stating an emergency exit only! Leaving us totally confused! We ended up walking around by the other path. My husband and I thought the closure of the convenient gate may have been because we thought last year they may have had some issues with park guests coming in and using the pool. Last year they were more strict around the pool, I remember we were given wristbands to identify us as hotel guests when at the pool. We were not asked to wear them this year. If you noticed on the longer path to the park that we used during our most enjoyable visit last week, there were fewer signs directing you to the exact path of the HRH. The only way we were able to get to know the direction was the fact that the path along the water was sort of paved and then the short path to the HRH (where you take the left turn after the two bridges into the hotel) was gravelly. I think they may be trying to make the pool access a bit more confusing. It would probably help if they got a better gate and keycard system for entry that worked instead! -JMO

About that gate on the north or water slide side:

Coming back from Universal it SEEMS much quicker but either way you get by the bar area and out of the rain very quickly.

Now about the garden path side - I was there in August and noticed as well that the sig for HRH was missing. This is an interesting theory and may very well be true. When we were there they were still using wrist bands. HRH still has a problem with non-guests parking and/or using pool and I do not know how they will solve this.

When the pool is closed because of Thunderstorm activity in area ihow will you get to the Parks if this gate (Pool slide side) is inaccesible (sp?) because they will NOT let you walk the other way around because of lightning danger. The only is to go either thru bar area or on the covered area by The Kitchen and then thru the bar area to the gate.

Isn't the card reader still there and functioning?
