I was sure I had read a long time ago that there is a walkway from OKW to DTD, but I just did a search and couldn't pull up anything. Dh and I are staying at OKW in October and would prefer to walk to DTD if it's possible.
Please share any information you have on walking to DTD.
TIA

The walkway is on the cartpath through the golf course, approaches SSR but doesn't cross the river. Keep walking the walkway and you'll find yourself on the West Side of DTD.

You need to go to the end of Peninsular Road (the main street in OKW) to where it meets South Point Road. To your left, between buildings 54 and 55 there's a path that cuts across to the other side of the waterway the boats take to get to DTD. You cross the golf course at this point, then pick up a path along the treeline, on the opposite of the water from OKW. Make a left and follow the path to DTD. It's about a mile once you're out of OKW.

It is a great walkway during the day. From the path behind Buidling 55 it follows the Trumbo Canal past the Treehouse Villas to the cart bridge near SSR. Don't cross the cart path, just continue on past the practice greens and around the DD parking lot. The distance from Building 55 to Cirque is 0.93 miles.

The walkway is not lighted and is closed after dark (it is not physically closed, but there are signs stating it's closed after dark). The walkway is used by maintenance staff going between SSR and OKW.

We have seen osprey along the canal as well as river otter in the canal. Years ago there were a number of exercise stations aloing the trail from the Treehouse area back to what is now SSR but those have been removed.

Thanks everyone...an approximately 1 mile walk sounds perfect! I'm really looking forward to trying this out on our October trip.:goodvibes

Can't tell you how many times I have walked that path with company...or solo. The walk is about a mile...if its hot outside make sure you have water as there is no usable source on the path itself until you reach Westside...in/near the Cirque de Sole/ and House of Blues. Its tranquil walking along the waterway....sort of refreshes the soul. ENJOY!

CaskPeg, I'm really looking forward to this walk...I appreciate the heads up on water, I hadn't thought of that but I will be sure to bring water with us now.
