I am debating on whether to bring our bikes to Fort Wildness this January. Can someone tell me how long it takes to walk from loop 1100 to the Settlement and from loop 1100 to the Outpost?:D

If it is at all possible bring your bikes. Especially if you plan on spending much time in the campground. FW is a big campground and a great place for bikes. It is 1.4 miles from check in to the marina. It is not a bad walk from the 1100 loop to the settlement but I would not want to walk to the outpost.

We walk all over the campground, I like the walk from the 1300 loop to the outpost or marina it is great excercise. If you have small children though I would recommend bringing bikes.

Fort Wilderness is large, and there is plenty of places to ride. We don't bring bikes that often, but then I don't like my kids on the roads. There are teens who drive the golf carts and they can be a little wild.

We stay at the 1500 loop and have taken to walking to both the Settlement and the Outpost. I guess I never realized how close we were.

If it is easy for you to bring bikes, though, I would bring them as they can be a lot of fun.

If it is a pain to bring them along (e.g. not much room), or if you won't be spending much time exploring the campground, I would leave them at home. You will be fine without them because of the internal buses, etc.

Thanks everyone for the information. It will be only my wife and I coming to WDW. We usually walk 3 miles a day so I thought it would be easiler to walk than to bring the bikes.

If you walk 3 miles per day, then a quick walk to Settlement or Outpost will be easy for you!!

Also, when you bring your bikes you have to worry about which end of the campground you parked at when returning from the parks. Also, if it is pouring down rain when you return from the parks, you have to ride your bikes in the rain. If you don't have them, you can just catch a bus to your loop.

For example if you ride your bikes to Outpost in the morning to catch a bus, then during the day hop over to Magic Kingdom and take the boat back to Ft. Wilderness, you'll be brought back to the Marina (Settlement), then have to ride a bus or walk all the way to Outpost to retrieve your bikes.

From Loop 1500 it is an easy walk to either destination.

Hope this helps,

Carol

We stayed in the 100 loop and were able to easily walk to the settlement and meadows areas. If we headed to the outpost we took the internal bus system. Our older boys 6 and 8 brought their scooters and enjoyed riding them around our loop and to the meadows area. They fold up very compactly so we can easily make room for them.
