"Walking Tacos" or "Walking Nachos"

First time I've heard of this. Sounds great and my son will love it! Thanks. :)

We have those at the fair... 'Taco in a Bag' :goodvibes

I prefer them with Fritos. Using brisket sounds delish!!!!

Great idea. Except a walking taco sounds like more work for someone walking around than a non-walking taco (i.e. a plain ol' regular hand-held taco) ;).

Not that I don't like the idea :). I remember Frito pies in the bag being served at the skating rink in the '70s.

Anyone remember Chocotacos? Soooooo scrumptious. I'm sure they must still be around.

I have never heard of these before, have you? ( well, I never did til this week )

Basically you get the mini bags of Fritos, open the top and add taco / nacho ingredients to the bag, put a fork in, and you are good to go.

I'm having a pig roast in a few weeks, and I am going to put these out for guests, except that I am going to put out shredded SMOKED BRISKET, instead of ground beef.

Sounds like a good starter, until the pig is done about 3 hours after the party starts.

Thats the one way to make them. Around here thats called a frito pie. A walking taco around here involves a taco made in a fry bread pouch. Its a very common thing on the menominee indian reservationm

I'll have to start keeping my eye out for them again. They used to have them at the Taco Bells and Taco Buenos around here, but they quit carrying them. I thought they were a perfect dessert for those places to offer :confused3.

Now I'm craving one.

Ooh, I love these! DH grew up on them in the Sandusky, OH school system. He got me started on them, and we got the neighbors going on them. No one that we're met here in Chicagoland had heard of them before. Must be a regional thing.

We're definitely partial to the Doritos. I love Cool Ranch with mine.

We have them here in the Chicago burbs at swim meets and other sporting events. My kids LOVE them!!

I just heard about this last football season. Still haven't had one but you guys are makin' me hungry! Sounds like a great idea to keep the dishwashing to a minumum at a party.

My kids LOVE walking tacos, we use them with Doritos as well (after we learned you could start a fire in an emergency camping with Fritos, they have so much grease in them! ;))
They are so delicious and for y'all who have/had them for lunch and school are lucky! I think my kids would be envious!

OP, the walking tacos with brisket sound really good!

Also, you learn something new here everyday, and the Choco Taco looks amazing! Never heard of it before, now I'm craving one and I've never even had one! :rotfl:
I'll have to keep my eye out for them!:thumbsup2

I have NEVER heard of this before and now I have to go get the ingredients to try this. My kids will be in hog heaven. (Who am I kidding so will I!) :)

Definately looks like a regional Mid-West thing from the where the replies seem to be coming from. Is this true?

My son has them alot at away marching band competitions. Something the kids like and easy for the band parents to serve.

They are popular for camping in Arkansas!

Here in the midwest this is how sports events sell frito chili pie. Open the top of the bag pour in some chili and cheese (onions too if you like them) dig in with a spoon. I spent the first 15 years of my life sitting in bleachers watching my brother play football with my hands wrapped around a hot bag of fritos (plus they still had them in the summer at the baseball/softball fields so we ate them then as well).

Not necassarily a regional food, but they do go by different names in different parts of the US, and some ingredients will vary. My HS was in California, where they were fritos, chili with lots of beef, onions, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes, as I said, we called them a Pepper Belly.

Here in TX the are usually served without the lettuce or tomatoes, and are called Frito Pies.

I have never heard of a walking taco before. I wasn't sure what I was going to find when I opened this thread, to be honest. :scared1:
