"Walking Tacos" or "Walking Nachos"

We call them spoon tacos here. I make them at home in a bowl using doritos, ground beef with taco seasoning, cheese, lettuce, etc... Love them:goodvibes

I have never heard of a walking taco before. I wasn't sure what I was going to find when I opened this thread, to be honest. :scared1:

Maybe you were thinking of the San Antonio Missions mascot; Henry, the Puffy Taco. :rotfl:

They are called Petros here in Knoxville, TN. They were introduced at the 1982 Worlds Fair by a brother team who branded them and opened up restaurants here in town, at Neyland Stadium, etc. Yum-Yum!!!! They now put them in a bowl, still delicious!

Ignorance is bliss, and now I'm tortured because I want to try this wonderful thing that's eluded me all my life right now.

No sure if it's a regional thing since I'm in Washington State. We started making them for a concession stand at local horseshows about 20 years ago...

Walkin' Tacos! Love them!

My service sorority in college sold them as a fundraiser for lunch...they were super popular! Mostly used Doritos, yum! :lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc:worship:

I grew up eating Frito Pie at baseball games - one of the things I really loved from the concession stand - chili, cheese and onions into a mini bag of Fritos - what could be better?

In Western NY, we had these in high school for lunch except they were called "Travelin' Tacos" and in one of those 25 cent bags of Fritos, so super small. We ate them with a spork.

I have NEVER heard of this before and now I have to go get the ingredients to try this. My kids will be in hog heaven. (Who am I kidding so will I!) :)

Definately looks like a regional Mid-West thing from the where the replies seem to be coming from. Is this true?

I'm thinking this too, because I am from NJ and never heard of it - nor has my son who LOVES nachos, tacos, etc. They certainly never had it at school! Even at sporting events around here, nachos are just tortilla chips in a cardboard carrier with the melted cheese poured over it.

I noticed a Long Island person and a Western NY person hadn't heard of it either.

Oops, never mind - one Western NY person has heard of it! ^

Buffalo is almost mid-west in my mind in terms of customs. We play Euchre, drink pop, etc. DH (who is from Ohio) and I had much similar upbringing and customs than I did with my college roomates from LI.

I live outside of Pittsburgh and I've seen them sold at high school football games around here. I'm making them Saturday. ;)

Papa Deuce- I see you are serving smoked brisket in yours. If you have a smoker I have a great recipe for Smoked Baked beans for a crowd. PM me if you would like it. :goodvibes

Thank you for the offer. I make some awesome beans in the smoker. I use a combination of brisket and pulled pork in them. :thumbsup2

I can't imagine why I never heard of these! They sound SO good. :)

I have never heard of these either! How have I gone my whole life never having heard of such a thing???
I'm gonna have to try these this weekend for the girls. Maybe it's a regional thing. We have never had them sold at ballgames, school or skating rinks. Sounds cool though!
