Walking Into a Sit-Down Restaurant Without a Reservation?

I would say yes.... I don't know of any restaurants that have a table for one. I would think they would put you at a table for 2...and we usually do need adrs...

Ummm,,Hello,???,, Rainforest Cafe' has tables for 1,,,its called the "bar". ºOº

Oops! Sorry! I thought we were thinking only about Disney operated places. I have gotten into Rainforest (at DTD) many times without any reservations. Didn't need to use the bar either, I got a table.

Last night (around 5:30 or 6) at MK we walked into Tony's and got a seat in about 10-15 minutes. There were 4 of us.

I think that Beaches & Cream had a counter you could get up to. (sit down service) and they don't take adrs... while we're at it espn also has bar seats and they don't take adr's :moped:

My boyfriend and I go to Disney in February each year for my birthday. We don't like to make ADRs because we don't want our visit to be that regimented. We've been successful in getting seated at most of the restaurants we wanted within an hour. We do, however, tend to eat when the mood strikes us and maybe not at the most popular times. I'm with those of you who've said make an ADR for someplace that's a "must" for you, otherwise I'd just wing it.

I was a party of 2 this January/February and I made a couple same day reservations. I didn't do a walk-in, but I'd call from my cell phone on the bus and ask what was available (for example) at Epcot in the next hour or so for 2 people. There was always some option - but, of course, not the highly popular places. If you're not picky, there's usually something somewhere.

Why not make ADRs and then still wing it? It's not like making an ADR is the equivalent of a blood oath ;) If you wake up one morning craving something else, call the restaurant you want and see if you can get in. If so, cancel the ADR and go with it. If it's all booked and you are hungry enough to be able to contain your craving anyway, at least you know you'll have an ADR somewhere you are interested in eating. Make sense?

I almost did this in 2006. I tried to get a walk-in at Sci-Fi but before we could go in, I checked the menu & wasn't interested in the food, the same with Coral Reef. Funny thing though, this year i'm going back to Sci-Fi & going to Coral for the first time. Guess I did find something after all since i'm a WAY picky eater. But just looking at that ressie board at Epcot guest relations & seeing it full made me smile knowing my reservations were already taken care of.

We went to Le Cellier in January for lunch and some people walked up to ask when the next available time was and the CM said, "there might be something open next week." :scared1:

Glad I made ADRs.

If you do happen to get a French craving whilst in Epcot, try Chefs de France. We went there the first week of June and thought we'd just check if they had any availability and we were one of two couples in the whole restaurant AND it was delicious. It doesnt seem to be very popular but we enjoyed it at lot and its beautiful inside.

Just as a pointless bit of observation - the CM behind the desk at the castle in MK almost laughed me out of the park when I asked about any sort of standby to get a character meal.

Sad how much things have changed. Back in 2005 there was one day where they were begging people to come eat at CRT. That has been the only time I have eaten breakfast there (I love the lunch, though).

Thanks for the advice everybody :) I guess I need to go research some restaurants!!

I'm glad you asked that question. Why not make ADR's and then still wing it? How about because when you make an ADR that you don't use, you just deprived someone else of the opportunity to go to that restaurant. Seems pretty self centered to me. If you are going to go...fine. If not have some manners and let someone else have a meal there. Either plan and follow through or wing it. Those really are the only two options.

I honestly think it's a good idea for people to get ADRs and wing it - Disney are very very good at maximising their resources, they'll fix this rather dumb system and get a good standby system going. I'm generally a bit unhappy that I have no way of getting a princess meal for the kids - both of them (DS3 and DD5) would love it.
