Walking distance from Disney Land Hotel

If people would take the time to LAUGH a little more, the world would be a much better place...:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: :cool1:

We have been to WDW three times and just got back from 6 days in DL staying at the DLH. You will LOVE the walking distances at DL!!! Everything is way more compact and manageable. The walk from DLH to the front entrance of the park is similar to walking from Bay Lake Tower to the front of Magic Kingdom. And the whole route is through DTD so you never leave the Disney feeling behind. It's a nice quiet walk if you are going for park opening because the DTD stores aren't open yet so it's very quiet. Then, when you get inside DL, it's the same layout as WDW but more compact. You go to walk from the main entrance to Tomorrowland and it seems like you are there in about half the time. We once left Fantasyland to go ride POTC and it felt like we almost tripped over it since we got there so quickly! It also makes running around to get fastpasses soo much easier!

Thank you all for your input. I am still so unsure what to do. When I read about the walk back to the GC from the parks it seems just as long. My Mom always goes with our family and she has some knee problems. So after walking all day in the parks the walk back to the resort worries me. We always stay at the GF or Poly at WDW so we can hop on the boat from MK and be back at the resort. Then we stay at the Boardwalk for Epcot and HS for the same reason. I also always request the building (with Club Level) closest to the boats too. I love the look of the DLH and think my girls would enjoy it so much more than the GC. A half mile walk at the end of the day seems too hard for my Mom but if the walk back to the GC is almost as long then it might not be such an issue. :confused3

Have you checked out the DL hotels on google maps on the satelite view? If you zoom in a little you can get a better lay of the 'land than the resort maps. The monorail station is next to the Rainforest Cafe if you want to check distances from the hotels to that. My kids really love the GC though, so if you untimately choose that, I don't think you're kids will be disappointed. Even if you got the very furthest away room at the GC, it will be closer than the closest room at the DL. If walking is the main concern for your mother with knee problems, I would stay at the GC and request a room near the lobby elevators, or if being there during EMH isn't a top priority do the DLH and take the monorail into DL to shorten the walk. I think the walk from the DLH is quite a trek.

My Mom has knee problems too, so I know exactly the kind of worries you are having. My family stayed at Paradise Pier for our recent trip and we loved it...but I will be honest. The walks did seem longer than I was expecting. Don't get me wrong, they are not very long...but with a Mom with knee issues, especially after trekking through the parks all day....I think it might be tough. DLH is at the complete opposite end of Downtown Disney from the entrance plaza to DL and DCA. It is a very enjoyable walk (music, people watching, never leaving the "Disney" vibe) but it is a decent walk with little ones or a Mom-with-knee-problems after a long day. We stayed 3 days at PP and 3 days at Howard Johnson's and to be honest, I think our walk from HoJo's was quicker...and DLH is further than PP. I know my Mom is always too proud to do the wheelchair thing....but there are companies that will rent them to you and have them delivered to the hotels. Is it possible to do that and then at the end of the long day, someone can meet her with the wheelchair for a nice stroll back to DLH? You could also take the monorail from inside the park and it will take you a good stretch of the way, which would help. Staying in a Disney hotel was great, so you may not want to skip that...but I would definitely be sure that the walk is not too long for her. Good luck!

When we take the kids, we normally just stay across the street to save money. But we've been twice without the kids and splurged on staying at DLH, so much fun! The walking distance from either is just about the same.

I've found the for the best rates, I shop around and call the hotel directly and get them to beat or match the price. I don't like going through third patries if I dont have to haha
