Walking Club1 3miles 3x week

I'd like to join, too! I'm away from home helping out my Mom this week but I'm heading home next Monday. I would love to do this.I already have a treadmill and walking is free. It's just finding the time! I'm going to try getting up early before my family and walking.

I'm turning 38 on Tuesday. I would love to lose weight before I'm 40. I lost 50 pounds last year after having my baby but gained back 25 over the winter. :sad2:

Good luck everyone!

I;m also glad C.Ann shared this infor with us because it was perfect timing...Thank you C.Ann:goodvibes!

Before you know it you will be back in shape and ready to do another marathon. Hopefully $$ will be better so you can go back to wdw.

Funny thing is I was also walking and counting the days/miles until July 31-lol! Hopefully for my B-day next month I will be thinner so I can wear something cute!:cool1:

Thanks! I actually wasn't in that great of shape when I did the half marathons, but it was better than now. I got discouraged because one of the reasons I signed up to do them was to get into better shape, but with both of them I gained 10 lbs and I haven't gotten that weight off yet. :confused3

I did my 3 miles for today in 52:33. :thumbsup2

he-he - I lost track of the laps I did on the track today, but I'm pretty sure I did 12 laps! I walked for one hour on the track, and it takes about 7 mins each way to walk to/from the track, so I know I got in at least 3 miles. It was nice and cool from 8:30 - 9:30, but I won't be so lucky in a few days. We're due for some HOT weather in a few days, so I'll have to get out eariler.

I used to get in 3 laps and think I was done, but pushing through to the 3 miles was exhilarating.

I did my 3 miles today in 53:52. The most important part of that sentence for me is the "I did my 3 miles today" part. :thumbsup2

This got me through my walk today! I did my 3 miles today! But I was slower and more difficult than yesterday. I had to start and stop because I was walking at the track and kept getting interrupted for various reasons. I was tired. It was hot. Blah, blah, blah...my self-talk was not very motivational! BUT, I did kept thinking "No matter, I'll get in my 3 miles."

How's everyone else doing today?

I'm in! I did 3 miles yesterday and today already. I'd like to do 7 days a week but don't want to commit just yet because I've got a LOT on my plate right now. Maybe once I get through August (son going to college and we're moving 400 miles away) I'll be able to commit. :confused3

We're going on a cruise in October for our 25th anniversary and I'd very much like to be able to wear this in a 12: http://www.mydress.me/goods.php?id=1480

Let's do this! :lovestruc

Yay for everyone who did their 3 miles today!

I did not walk this morning, but I did 3 miles yesterday and plan to walk another 3 tomorrow. I have found if I don't walk first thing in the morning, I come up with a million excuses not to get it done later in the day.

Conrats on the 25 years:cool1: When you workout visualize yourself in that cute dress and before you know it you;ll be in a 12 or maybe even an 11:goodvibes

As I was walking lastnight My plans were to walk 3x per week and days in between walk 1 mile on an incline but dont know if I can. I woke up and my heel feels sore and swollen like theres pressure so I'm not in the mood. Hopefully once I do get on the tread mill it will feel better. I dont know if I'll do 1 mile incline or let my foot rest but I wanna fo for it! lol!

Some Things on my mind........

1-Whats are the best type of shorts for working out? My inner thighs were rubbing and I had to keep pulling down my shorts from in between my legs. Well at the very end the rubbing started to burn from rubbing:eek: or is there a lotion or cream I could use to i dont irriated that area

2-I need to find a pedometer

My workout
interesting note: I walked the 3 miles in 1hr 5mins @ 2.8 speedand got such a good workout that i could feel the sweat in my hair and scalp..seriously! In the past when I walked 2 miles in and hour at a faster rate I didnt sweat as much as I did with the 3 mile. I can really see me losing weight just with walking cuz right now on vacation i dont think i walk 3 miles in an entire day-lol!

Since it's warmed up, I've been wearing Danskin shorts that I bought at Walmart. They were inexpensive and they're made of a cotton/poly/spandex blend that work well for me.
Hmmm . . . as far as the rubbing, isn't there some sort of stick that's been mentioned before on the Dis board that you rub on your feet to prevent blisters? I wonder if that would work on your legs too?

A word of warning for anyone doing lots of incline walking on your treadmill: Make sure you stretch well before and after walking. I've always been really bad about stretching and it caught up to me. This past winter I was doing a lot of incline intervals on my treadmill. I learned the hard way that inclines put a lot of stress on your Achilles and if you don't stretch properly it can cause tendonitis. So, everyone make sure you stretch!

I dont know about a stick that was mentioned. i did hear on TMZ of someone they interviewed that was a runner or did a marathon and he used something and it was something funny but i cant remember what but men use it for there uno what area:confused3

Well I was only going to do the 1 mile incline walk but I ended up doing the 3 mile walk :cool1::cool1::cool1: I finished it in 1hr:cool1: plus i did an extra 5 mins for cool down.

TxAnn good reminder about stretching . I admit sometimes I'm so bad about it but i dont need any other foot problems.

This being my 3rd day walking (only 2 were 3 miles) I have a really weird taste in my mouth like when i did atkins induction and entered ketosis

Ketosis-means that our bodies are using fat for energy.

It all depends on your level of fitness. 3MPH is a strong moderte pace. 4MPH is a brisk walk. When I first started I could only go about 2 MPH, now I do 2.8 to 3 mph depending on the heat. Any walking is good though, even a slow pace will get your blood pumping if you aren't used to it. I speed up once I realize I'm not huffing and puffing, or every 10 days, which ever comes first! Hope that helps.

I'm sure my body is in shock because I've been on summer breakand not much activity until 2 days ago. I did start out at 2.8 and today I bumped it up to 3.0. I plan on gradually bumping it up and not over doing it.

another thing is we've started eating at the dining table and no longer eat infront of the tv. I've noticed we are eating less, talking more and dinner is longer vs scarfing down the food quickly watching tv, not talking or paying attention to how much we are eating. The slower we eat we feel the fulliness. Plus i've been cooking at home and eating more chicken and veggies. I'm not watching my carbs just have naturally cut back on portions without even trying-kinda weird

Already got my 3 miles in today. :thumbsup2 I don't think I mentioned how much I detest exercise! Yes, I feel better eventually but man I hate exercise.

I have to deep clean today (house is for sale) and I'm thinking of taking DS to a blood drive later. I haven't donated in a while and it's really important this time of year. Oh and I need to drop some soda off to the high school band boosters for their annual car show. We had a ton leftover from the grad parties and this is a good way to get rid of it, without putting all the calories and crap into our bodies!

Hope everyone has a great day.

I wish I was a morning person but I'm not. I'm a night owl so I get all my energy at night.I've always done better exercising at night. When I would go to the gym in the summer morning i'd come home and fall asleep from being exhasted. Exercsing at night I get full of energy:confused3

anyways I did my 3 miles lastnight and during the walk i notice a hive under my breast. Ok then 1 hr later i notice another hive and after my shower small section on back was itchy. Then in bed I was itching. This morning just a lil. Does this mean I'm allergic to exercising? lol! I didnt eat or try anything new so i'm wondering if its just my body reacting to the change??? Has this happened to anyone else? Its been a longtime since i've gotten hives:confused3

I walked 1.5 miles this am. I decided to take a day "off" the 3 mile walk and get my 3rd one in tomorrow. I'm thinking that in days I just don't want to walk I can just do a quick mile or so -- just a long as I get my 3X3 in during the week. It felt good to get out there today!

Did 6.3 on Monday, 1.86 Tuesday, Wed did 2.86 on the strider at the gym & today 4.83 in grass on soggy soccer fields 'cuz my husky has a cut on a paw pad from all the burrs & concrete here.

I did discover something this week. I wear a bodybugg and I burn more calories walking outside than on any of the cardio equipment at the gym, but at the gym I seem to breathe harder.

Great job getting all those miles in!

BodyGlide works for rubbing. So does pretty much any stick deodorant.

Welcome!
Have you tried adjusting your speed or using ankle weights?
I read somewhere 3 miles in 1hour not sure if this makes a difference but anyone know whats a good time for completing 3 miles???

Tried both. I walk at about a 13-14 min avg and I live in the high desert with LOTS of hills. My typical walk goes from about 5000' to 6500'. And there are 232 Stairs on it. I just have a crazy, almost meno metabolism. I can gain 5 - 8 lbs literally overnight and weighed more by exactly 10 lbs when I came out of hospital after having 7-8 lb babies than when I went in. Go figure!

When I walk on the track near-by, I complete 4 laps = one mile in about 20 minutes, so I'm hoping to do the 3 miles in an hour.

I get bouts of plantar fasciitis and pain in both knees, so I may need to slow that down at first, but I'm IN!

Maybe this is just the push I need. I work at a school, so I have the next 2 months off. Once I go back to work, walking on the track has to wait until 3 PM (even though I'm home earlier than that, the track is only available after the middle school lets out). We also have an eliptical, so I can use that if it's too hot in the afternoons.

I have plantar in my left arch that kills me unless I wear my Vibram Five Fingers - REALLY STRANGE, but the most comfortable shoe I've ever owned. You can buy @ REI & if you decide you don't like can return them even after being worn. Not cheap, but they've done about 400 miles on concrete, as much as 8 miles at a time and look new. Even wore them ziplining, in water, in the ocean & then all day - about 14 hours total with no problem.

I did my 3 miles today! 53:10

I have really wild weight fluctuations too. Like you, I can have 8 lb differences from one day to the next. Fortunately I can also lose 8 lbs overnight, although in those cases it's just water.

I would not do well with that kind of walk! The altitude alone would do me in, much less the hills! Seriously, a 1500' difference?!

I saw someone wearing these in the other day. They looked so strange, but the guy said they were really comfortable! I had never seen them before.
