I never thought i would walk a reservation as we are pretty flexible with our choices. BUT I have walked 2 - 7 month reservations this year. The first was a reschedule of our cancelled July trip - we decided to go thanksgiving week. Really at that point there was limited options for 2BR so a week out I started with an OKW reservation. Good thing I did because had I waited to book until our actual 7 month mark I would have been out of luck.

I again needed to book at 2 BR for an April trip. It is our kids spring break so i know a popular time at WDW (even despite covid). I started my BC 2BR reservation about a week out during a week which isn't as popular. Again this method proved to workout for us. Because i secured those dates ahead of time I had the room and could inch it forward each morning at 8am. Again, had i waited to book at the 7 month mark it wouldn't have been able to book. This was my in-laws top choice of all the 2BR that we were considering. It is also likely their last trip to WDW, so I didn't want to let them down.

Certainly I know the risks because an owner could swoop in and book ahead of me but it work out for us. We had plan B and C if it didn't work out. I am sure there will be those who flame me for doing this BUT I think I did it more for the challenge to see IF it could be done. I really believe my luck might be a product of the current environment and the fact that people are putting off trips to WDW. So likely when things return to "normal" it might not be possible.

I think it’s great that it worked out for you and I won’t flame you for walking. As long as you were aware of the possibility that a member who owns at your chosen resort could swoop in and ruin your walk and had backup plans, it’s all good. Have a great trip and enjoy BCV.

Congratulations. I have done it a few times at 7 months and did indeed get stopped. But we had the entire month to go so I ended up just getting what I needed later that month at 7 months.

I’m not flaming you at all. You did what you could to secure a great vacation for your family. Some people have enough points to “walk” for a month. Others put in the time at 8am every morning. Still others get lucky. It is what it is.
Enjoy your trips!
