Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

Hi Susie--- I was wondering how you did. There are so many threads going on it is hard to follow how each person did. The last I saw as we exited out of Epcot, glad you found someone to help you through the race. From mile 18 on I found the race really difficult. Thankfully I had Jeanne to keep me going. Alone with some encourging words from Dave and Robert. Sorry about your blister. I was lucky that I wasn't bothered by them. Good luck on making whatever you decide. I'm planning on doing the Donald. The Goofy is filling up fast so you won't have much time to decide. I don't think I could survive 2 days of LW to ever do the Goofy.

Denise--- We can help each other with WW. I have tried to be good both yesterday and today, but it is hard to cut back from what I was eating. I was surprised that I didn't feel bad after the Mickey. I could actually walk around without alot of problems that evening. No real soreness on Monday and was back to work on Tuesday. I'm not sure why that was, but was grateful that I wasn't sore.

Dave--- My sneaker size have grown an entire 1 1/2 sized since I started all this. And I might have to go up another size as the toes are close to the end of the new sneakers I bought. Soon I will not be wearing any women's size sneakers.

It is very cold in PA with a high of 21 today. So stayed inside and did WATP 3 mile video. It has been ages since I did that video so it worked alot of different muscle.

I went through my WW cookbook and have all my receipes for the coming week. I love their receipes, the only down size is the prep time. Made the zero soup so had that for lunch and will take to work tomorrow.

Nancy

Hey Nancy! I'm in PA, too (western near Greensburg), and must be on the same wavelength! I also did WATP 3-mile today and am seriously counting my points again. Add me into the WW support group! :cool1:

Yes, Nancy it was 20 degrees today, but it FELT more like -20!!!! I ran outside yesterday (which was beautiful) but my five miles today was freezing!! Glad to hear you are back in the 'game'!!!!! I lost 6 so far!!

Beth

Robert---How is the weather in Disney? I'm so jealous you are still there.

Nancy

The weather has been cloudy and rainy. Today was sunny but cold. I loved the weather the 1st 5 days. Last 5 days...

We leave tomorrow am so we are forced to stay Mon night in Reno as snow is hitting and won't be home until Tues. Thurs is surgery. Crazy week.

Great job to everyone. Linda and I signed up for the Goofy. Her 3rd and my 4th:) Plan to sign up for DL 1/2 on Fri after surgery. Who else is coming. Got to get that 2nd special medal. 2008 could mean 3 new medal at WDW and 3 at DL. Too Cool:thumbsup2

Talk soon. Rehab starts on Friday(one way or another)

Nancy you have built muscle in your feet. Feet just like arms, legs, ect... grow bigger stronger muscles and tendons to adapt to the new demands. We are amazing creatures and that old saying, "that which doesn't kill us makes us stronger", is very true. You have the feet of an athlete, yea baby! Your body is changing and if you keep at it more and more of your body will be transformed. Remember walkers have the best butts.

Robert, you and your sweet little lady get home safe.

Everyone, y'all ready to kick some butt this year? A bunch of you proved you can walk the walk as well as talk the talk. I first heard that expression in Vietnam, it meant that you had the courage to fight and not freeze with fear.

As in all things difficult, sometimes we fall, but the disgrace is not in falling but in losing the will to get back up. We have a new year ahead and a new respect for what we are capable of, lets all pledge to not lose faith in ourselves and keep on our journey.

Robert--- Safe travels to you and Linda. Good luck with your surgery.

Dave--- DH would say the strongest muscle in my body is my mouth. :rotfl2: Thanks for the explanation about feet getting muscles. Who would have thought. You always make us princess feel so special, even us with big feet and butts.

Hi Laura---Fellow PA and WW. My son went to school in Western Pa, Cal U of Pa.

Beth--- You are a better women than me to go out in that cold and wind. I stayed in my nice warm house all day.

Nancy

This question is for anyone who might have experience in this:

a) When I bought my running shoes at the specialty store, he suggested a midweight sock with some cushioning in the sole. They are nowhere near as heavy as my midweight smartwool hiking socks, as a point of comparison. Should I be going thinner? He said the drying action of the socks should keep my feet dry and that really thin socks can't keep my foot as dry.... :confused3 Should I be experimenting? I know I need to solve this before May!

b) If my ankles are tight and I need to build them up, does anyone recommend a BOSU? I see them in the workout magazines regularly but I've never tried one. It's on sale in Target this week for $99 with a $20 gc, the best price I've seen if anyone thinks that this is worth looking into....

Nancy, BRAVE?...... no stupid! I just couldn't face the dreadmill again.....paid for that though!

Beth

Yes Robert and Linda, get home safe.

Nancy, all you ladies just wow me. You pretty princesses and all so smart, so brave and so fun to be around. I was amazed at how wonderful the WISH people are, you guys are the best.

Duckie, an easy way to get stronger ankles is to do some of your walking on grass, like at a park or trail. The uneven surface gives you strength in a wider range of motion that just road or sidewalk does.

Suzie, you will do wonderful in the Goofy, the marathon part is the hard part of course and you did great there.

Did Jeanne get arrested for practicing that bare buns event. What are we to do with that naughty little princess?

Where are Karla and Heather? I haven't heard from them since the half. If you guys are there please give us a shout.

Scott, you will do great in the Goofy and your sweet lady will do wonderfully in the marathon. Can't wait to hang out with you guys again.

Kim, are you guys frozen up there?

Everyone have a super day and stay out of trouble.

Frozen Panda:hippie:

Hi Guys!

Wow, this thread is really moving! I'll have to post more to keep up!

I am also in the WW brigade. I'm doing it online, meetings and me are not a good mix. It's too easy for me to decide it's too cold or yucky in the winter. Anyway, I'm having WW recipes all week, too! Last night was stuffed peppers, tonight it's pot roast. I have the "Take 5" book, all the recipes have five ingredients. It's perfect for someone without alot of time to cook...

Ms.MightyDuck -- I'm sorry I don't have any advice for you, I'm one step above a complete novice! My only advice is not to try to do too much too quickly. You will get injured (trust me on this), and you will regret it. Listen to your body, and don't be too ambitious. You have plenty of time to work up to a more challenging schedule. It's better to do a little on more days than to go all out for three or four in a row and then need a week off...again, JMHO, YMMV. :thumbsup2

Nancy -- Now I'm feeling better about my feet -- they're just getting stronger!:rotfl:

Lynn -- Indeed (Teal'c):)

Dave -- I learned at the Half that I could do more than I really thought I could. What a great lesson. And how can I not have faith that I will do even more this year?! Now I know what I need to do, how can I not do it?!:woohoo:

Robert -- Travel safe and best of luck with your health!:tiptoe:

Beth -- You rock! I can't imagine going outside in that cold. I am a weather wimp!:scared:

Larah -- Ok, so my new strategy is to eat more points earlier in the day. I hoard them for night, and then I can't stop eating...it's not pretty:scared1:

Denise -- Does this mean you haven't watched a Pats game all season?! I have a co-worker who says her dh is the man she lives with, Tom Brady is her boyfriend...:rotfl2:

Susie -- I hope your blister is doing better! I think if Goofy is calling your name you should answer. Why not go for it?!:cool1:

Bill -- Have you stopped celebrating yet?!18-0 is pretty awesome!:cheer2:

Ok, so I have a question -- is the Dopey a real thing with a medal, or is it just what we call people who do Goofy + the 5K? Yes, I am that naive. :flower3:

I need to do 40 minutes on the TM later today. I'm definitely in the "recovery" plan from the half marathon. It does feel good to move again!

Maria

Bill -- Have you stopped celebrating yet?!18-0 is pretty awesome!:cheer2:

Maria--Thanks for thinking about me. No "celebrating" yet, but I am very happy. As we've been here before and still have work to do, I am containing my euphoria for now. If the pursuit to perfection is successful though, I think I will have to send Eric Mangini a thank you note. Wonder who can piss off the entire organization next year to inspire them again.

I think the phrase for Patriots Nation right now is, "cautiously optimistic", but that might be a little strong for Belichik!

Ok, I just officially registerd dh and I for the 2009 Half, so we're coming -- Let the training begin!

Maria:upsidedow

just a quick lunchtime message--
FYI I tried the Progresso O point barley veg soup (okay 2 points if you eat the whole can I like I do :rolleyes1
Anyway, other than being very high in sodium, I thought it was pretty good!
I'm going to focus on strengthening my walking muscles for the next few weeks then transition to the Couch to 5K podcast. Anyone wanna do the WATP 4 miler with me tonight??:cool1:
Lara

Dave: the nudie race isn't until July so I still have lots of time to decide :rotfl2: Unfortunately they do not allow spectators, so you're outta luck, guy!:lmao:

What's perhaps even more amusing is that John and I signed up for the Krispy Kreme race next weekend. The actual Challenge involves running 2 miles, eating a whole box (dozen) of KK's and then running back 2 miles .....all within an hour! We signed up for the casual race (which means we can't possibly "win" :rotfl: ) We get to run the 4 miles but the eating donuts part is optional. John and I have decided we will eat at least one just to get in the spirit of things. I don't think they give any medals, but we will get a cool t-shirt....and hopefully a fun memory.

Robert: have a safe journey home and good luck with the surgery. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Susie: you rock!!!! I saw you at the out-n-back and you were way out front!
I don't know about your walking, but you sure can run fast! WTG!

I don't know what to do about next year. Right now the thought of training again is most UNappealing. (Gee, can I say that here?) John has it in his mind that he wants to go for the full. I would like to take it easy, do the half with Nancy and basically ENJOY my time at Disney instead of being all tired and worried. But if John is serious, he needs me to be supportive (as he certainly was with me) and that means get out there and train with him instead of just kicking him out the door with the Garmin. What to do, what to do? Then Scott has to go and post the quote that makes me feel quilty because I do not WANT to dare great things and suffer. Thanks, Scott :sad2: Can't i just say "been there, done that" to the marathon and move on to fun things like placing my nearly naked body in a freezing cold ocean on New Year's day? :scared1: Just thinking out loud, but your insight would be appreciated.

Jeanne, do as you please! Daring great things is subjective! To an inch worm 26 feet is miraculous! Besides, You have dared great things. If someone asks, "Think you can do a marathon?" You can positively answer that you DID a marathon!! You will always have a marathon. -- There is a Road ID, that says something like: There will be days when I don't know if I can do a marathon and a lifetime of knowing I did. -- Good luck with your decision. :flower3:

Another good thing about it not being until July is that it gives participants a chance to work on a good base tan -- which I would think is important for the more sensitive areas.

Thanks, Bill....I'll get working on that right away. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the advice, Connie. I realize I still have lots of time to decide, but I always like to schedule things ahead of time and not knowing what the plan is gets me out of whack.

Hey y'all!

Nancy - I'm thinking about the 2010 Goofy - not next year, 2009. I'm not that crazy! JK to all those doing the Goofy next year. But then again, you have to be a little crazy to consider such a feat. Actually, the reason I'm considering doing the 2010 is because this will give me a year to talk myself out of it (which I'll probably do once I get back into training for a half) and maybe since it's the 5th anniversary of the Goofy, something special will happen for that event? Maybe? Possibly? :confused3 I swore that I would never to another marathon but it would be nice to have a Goofy medal. If I can find someone to train with, I MIGHT consider it.

By the way, my feet have grown, too. When I first started getting into all of this training, I bought a size 9 running shoe. I normally wear an 8 to 8.5 regular shoe. Now, I wear a size 9.5 or 10 running shoe - depending on the brand. Thanks for explaining why, Panda Dave. You know what they say about people with big feet ;) .....

They need big shoes.

Lara - it was nice meeting you outside the Perks tent after the half. Congratulations on a successful run! I'll join you virtually for that WATP walk. Do you do that on a TM? I'll have to look into that.

Jeanne - About that run in the summer.....No spectators, huh? Does it say anything about not taking pictures? That race next weekend sounds fun. I think I would have to eat two of those suckers. Luckily, we don't have a KC around here. I can't imagine the trouble I'd get into if we did.

About that marathon next year. I say GO FOR IT!!!! For me, training is hard but if I had someone to train with me, I'd do it again. My training partner this year lived 6 hours from me and it was hard to get together. I absolutely HATED training alone. On the other hand, you could train for a half and do half or more miles and still be around to offer support for the 2nd half of his training. As for my running, it's not as fast as you think. However, I have to run some because I cannot maintain a 16 min/mile walking. :sad2: I'm going to work on this though so I can cut my running down. I cannot run much more than a minute at a time.

Steve and I were thinking about doing the PF Chang's RnR half next January in Phoenix. This is a week after the Disney events. However, just reading everyone's reports and seeing all those that want to participate next year, I don't know if I can pass Disney up. IF we go back to Disney, I will probably do the half and then be part of the scream team for the Full. I'll think I'll have more fun doing this.

Robert - hope you and Linda make it back to Colorado OK. Please let us know how your surgery goes. Sending you lots of :wizard: and :goodvibes for a successful surgery and speedy recovery.

Maria - congrats on signing up for the half next year! And, more importantly, congrats on a successful half this year! This goes for Eva, Kim, Denise, Stacey and any other first timers I inadvertently miss. You did it!!! Although I just completed my first marathon, my first event - the WDW half in '07, is still the most magical for me. It was at that time that I started feeling comfortable enough to call myself an athlete. The completion of the half just kind of sealed the deal for me.

Just as importantly, a big congrats to all who participated in events this year - the 5K, half, the full, the Goofy or the Dopey!

:lmao:

You remind me of someone I know and love....Kathy! She has that whacked out problem too. What I really wanted to say is that you should make the choice for you. It's hard making choices. And you CAN always train for the full and play in the 1/2! Think how great you will feel!! Of course, I haven't done a marathon. I want too, but that whole training thing ....well not the training....the TIME it takes to train......you know?? However, I am going to see what training for a marathon does for my brain....it is a brain game, isn't it?? :upsidedow

Thanks, I(we) still can't believe we all did it and in under 3:30. It's funny, people that know me never doubted I could do it. I had a twinge now and then - I think a lot of it is mind over matter and it's really true.

I hope to exercise now but in a more all over effective way rather than concentrating on just the powerwalking. Tonight 30 min on the ellip just to get back in the swing of things and keep my legs strong then find something for the other parts that need work - MANY.
