Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

I feel so badly for you poor packetless persons. I have noticed, though, it is the people who stir things up that don't have one yet! I wonder if there is something to that?? Naughty and Nice may be at work here! :confused3

Nancy, thanks for asking about DH. He has a slipped disk that is just agonizing for him. There is also an odd spot on the MRI that the doctor wants a surgeon to look at. I am praying that it is just one of those anomallies that sometimes shows up on film. Hopefully, he will begin physical therapy this coming week. And I am ordering him an inversion table, the doctor thought that would be really good for him.

Last night I did the Midwest City, OK Nightlight Run. It was really fun. A small 5K through the Christmas lights. It was really cold since it was spitting rain and 39 degrees. But the path was wonderful! We went through the animated Christmas lights display that was excellent! There was even a moving carousel and Santa fishing in a waterfall! The path then wound around the park and beside a creek with lots of trees. It would be a wonderful to get to train in lovely park like that. I managed to do it in 48:30! And here's the best part....I won a third place finishers medal for my age group!! :cheer2:

Pixie Dust to your Hubbie. Great 5K. It sounded like fun.

Yesterday was a very bad day again as shin hurting(and mentally drained). 5 weeks of PT and I should be much better. I only have 2 weeks of PT left on my insurance ths year. I don't think I will be better and have come to the reality that I probably won't be by the races in 5 weeks. Tough to figure why it is taking so long:confused3 . I am changing tactics and not slowly working back up with a few long walks before WDW. I have now decided to completely shut it down. I know this is risky but I don't think I have much choice. Enough pitying myself. At least I will be at WDW in a month today:banana: . I don't know if I will be able to do much when there but....
no snow:thumbsup2

Good training all!

Congrats, Connie, on finishing with an award! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
Also sending pixie dust to your hubby. I hope everything turns out well.

Pixie dust to Robert also!

If my packet doesn't arrive tomorrow, I am going to be a little proactive and make a call or send an email. Can someone tell me the best way to about contacting the marathon people? I'm starting to think it may be lost in the mail. Our area is booming, all the postal workers are way overworked (we sometimes get our mail at 6pm!) and the service in general stinks. Last night someone approached me at a party and said they never got an RSVP from us for their New Years party. I told them we never got an invitation! It turns out they mailed it about a week and a half ago but we never got it....and they live in our zipcode!

Denise, that margarita sounds good. We have a Mexican restaurant here that always has coupons for a 2-for-1 dinner between the hours of noon and 3 on Sunday. When John comes back from his walk, that's right where we're headed!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend......I have decorating to finish!

hi robert,
so sorry to hear about your shins! I too suffer from chronic shin pain which leaves me in tears many times, throbbing pain afterwards,,even had to quit a race.
what exactly did the doc say was the problem? did you ever read about compartment syndrom?

don't give up completely, not until mile 3 or 4..........you have put so much into it and yet you don't want to make matters worse especially with your knee surgery coming up.

It may be your turn to go and be a cheerleader for everyone else and just enjoy the crazy rides and great fun foods!:cheer2:

Jeanne: Email DisneySports@Emmi.com and address it to Steve(Registration Manager)

Debbie: Thanks for the advice. Dr didn't really say much but will have him give me script for xray and hopefully MRI. I will be waiting until Jan as I will be hitting my out of pocket max with upcoming surgery. I had to sit and do nothing before my first marathon in 1992. It was tough but was able to finish. I think if I completely shut it down, I will have a better chance to heal and finish:confused3 We will know 5 weeks from now!

Hello WISH Walking Wonders:

Sorry to hear about your ongoing troubles Robert. Hopefully you'll at least be able to enjoy the time at WDW (and not have to deal with snow).

Connie-Congrats on the event. That sounds like a great 5K. Other than my family and WDW, Christmas lights (and the Christmas season in general) are near the top of my favorites list.

Hope everyone's training continues to go well

Welcome back, Nancy......I missed you.
Still no packet for me yet although John and Jason got theirs today. John is 35,000 something for the half and Jason is 12,000 something for the full. I actually called Marathon Tours and Travel yesterday about the packets and they said that Disney sends them out directly. I noticed that Jenni registered with her Michigan address so maybe hers arrived there. Right now she is out of town, so I can't check until Monday. What is your bib #, Nancy?
My 18-miler was also a killer....and I only made it to 17.5. Then I collapsed in front of my car and my legs were shaking so badly, it took me about 5 minutes to get up. I left food and Powerade in my car and took them at each 5-mile interval. I was going nice and steady at a 15 minute pace. Then I hit a little hill just before 14 and just didn't have the strength to attack it. I stopped and that was the kiss of death for me. At 15.5 I had to stop again and this time I sat on the ground. Two people came by and offered assistance. I got up but it was start and stop the whole way. I even had to run into a sales office and gasp for water. When I reached my car again it was exactly 17.5 and I was done. Normally I would have circled the parking lot just to get the extra 1/2 mile. Luckily, John had decided to meet me to see if he could get in a few miles of his own. That was when I just plopped down on the ground and couldn't get up. I think my electrolytes get out of whack when I go the long distances. I'll be fine and all of a sudden, I lose it. Last week I was so strong at the half-marathon, but my last 2 long walks have been failures. The last good one I had was a 16-miler 4 weeks ago. I am getting very scared. Good God, Nancy, how are we ever going to do this?

Jeanne: What do you carry as far as beverage with you outside of your 5 mile pit stops? You should be drinking more often than every 5 miles.

Everyone has a bad long walk. Remember that adreneline will carry you for many miles so don't worry too much. Just work on eating and drinking. This will prevent the roll a coasters of energy.

I had one bottle of Powerade.....took a few ounces every five miles. I guess that wasn't enough. When I ran into the sales office, I drank 2 large cups of cold water from the water cooler and felt fine. Two minutes later I was struggling again. I still have those pills you gave us in the goodie bags. I was afraid they might have bad side effects but am going to try them next week.

Robert I forgot to ask -- are you going to enlist anyone to be the on-course photographer. I'd lean against the Potential Photographer Panda as I could only stand seeing so many pictures of the inside of his pockets and his Revolver 4s.

I would like to enlist anyone and everyone to take pics at the races for me.

Jeanne: Do you carry water besides the swigs of Powerade? 2 cups of water when ? After how long?

No, I carried no extra water. The 2 cups I drank at the sales office were at about Mile 16.5. I immediately felt revitalized, but it didn't last. I try not to overdrink because I would like to avoid potty stops....and we don't need to have THAT conversation again!

You are drinking way too little. I would recommend carrying some water and take some Endroyltes every hr. We you get dehrayted you will definetly hit the wall. I would also make sure you eat every 5 miles.

Hey guys.

I got my packet yesterday and Erica didn't tell me till she got home from work this morning, women gotta love um. She reminded me of something that I had forgotten. In 2006 we drove to disney for the Half Marathon and left our packets on the kitchen counter with the atlas. We showed our ID and they checked us in with no problem.

Connie hope your hubby is ok.

Jeanne you will be fine just take is easy for a bit, you are tired from that super half you did.

Erica worked all night so after we walked 5 miles here at Gattlinburg and had a nice dinner at "No Way Jose's", she has turned in and I'm enjoying a cold Sam Adams.

Have a super evening y'all.

Packet packing Panda:hippie:

Thanks for the pixie dust for DH. He's having a pretty rough time. I wish we could get started getting him well.

It is bitter cold this morning. I guess I will work with a video.
