Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

Hey everyone I am so far behind in posts......uuuggghhhhh

Nancy I am so sorry to have missed you and Jean and we where soooo close. I loved your hats but boy they looked hot.

It was so great to meet everyone had lots of fun at dinner Thursday night....just have to check the programing schedule...boy those guys where LOUD!!!!

Dave: Thank you for the kind works, you are so sweet. BTW, my daughter has tried to claim the teddy bear you and Erica brought for us. That was so nice.

Just over 10 weeks till marathon weekend everyone!!!!! Yipeeee!!!!!

Kim

Connie and Kathy are leaving today. I hope they check in when they get back. Wonderful ladies and really fun to hang out with. They can confirm that it was their balls I was fetching.

Jeanne you have such a witty sence of humor, I bet you keep poor John on his toes trying to keep up with you. You and Erica have a lot in common there. She has a way of getting the better of me in a debate most everytime. You gals do cheat though, a sweet smile and mischevious eyes trumps trying to act tough everytime.

This week was a blurr, I was trying to tell someone about the week yesterday and there are a couple of days that went so fast I don't even remember them.

I did get in a real training walk today. 4 miles on the hills. I didn't start getting into a grove till about 3 miles. (Did anyone notice there were no hills on the ToT course.) I missed the beer break evey mile that Robert adds to his training.

Erica won a raffle while we were gone that her Hospital was doing to raise money for the United Way. She won $1000. She also won a drawing for a huge box of breast cancer stuff, shirts, robe, blanket, cups, and a bunch of other stuff. We better play the lottery next week again. If we win the lottery y'all will have to make a trip here to pick up your vettes.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Can't wait for January Panda:hippie:

Welcome back, everyone! It was so much fun meeting everyone.

To answer Nancy's question, I think we're ready for Sunday's HM. We'll go to the expo and pick up our stuff on Saturday. Our son Jason is also doing the HM (his first) but he's going to a wedding about 2 hours away on Saturday and we have to pick up his packet. Lord knows what condition he is going to be in. I just found out that he has only trained up to about 6 miles......should be interesting. This is the one who is signed up to do the FULL in January.....that should also be interesting. Looks like I may get to say those wonderful parent words: "I told you so!!!" However after my husband's little performance this weekend, nothing can surprise me anymore.

I just made my reservations at OKW for the Minnie weekend. We are arriving on Saturday 5/3 and leaving Tuesday 5/6. I wanted to arrive Friday, but that's my husband's SX day and we're already missing 2 other Fridays that month for graduations. I didn't think we were going to be able to do it because I had the dates all wrong.......and that would be because our fearless leader Dave has them posted wrong in his siggie. :sad2: See what I get for trusting him......Lordy, Erica must be a saint  (We love you, Dave!) I know the Minnie has a 15 minute maximum pace, but I looked at the results from last year and they didn't hold to it hard and fast. We'll see. Does anyone know if John should sign up as a man, or use a female name. I noticed alot of the names were in quotation marks. If so, I'm going to sign him up as "Juanita" :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Make sure you sign up for both races(Go Red for Women 5K & Minnie 15K). Linda and I did the Minnie double last year and will do the same in 08. Just moved my ressies from SSR to BWV for 5/1-5/11.

We found speed someone lost on the course and I walked both races at a 13:30 pace:eek:

See you in less than 10 weeks!

Nancy: I am still struggling getting back to work. We have to drive and spend the whole day Sat to help at a friends 50 mile race he directs. I have to get all the prizes for my big Ultrarunner.net Race Series(Starts in March ends 11/4) and awards ceremony. Finally get to rest Sunday. Football!!!!

Jeanne: I agree never trust Dave. He has no balance and isn't graceful either:sad2:

Kim: Those less than 10 weeks will be here before we know it. After removing tapering, we have only about 7 weeks of training:scared1:

We can't do the 5K because we won't be arriving until Saturday.

I haven't signed up yet because I am concerned about transportation. If we stay at an Epcot hotel will they allow us to walk through at 5am to get to the parking lot? Is there another way around? And how does one get over to WWoS? They had busses at the January event, but not for this one. I made reservations at OKW, but may try to switch to another resort.

Good morning WISH walkers.

It's a good thing we have the January event so close. I'm really sad that the ToT week is over. I really had a wonderful time and meet some world class people. I didn't want the week to end, this was the best trip Erica and I have had.

Thanks to Vic posting the Annual Pass rates we are booked into the Cribbean Beach at $99 a night. That is just awesome. Thank you Robert for the Annual Pass idea. Our trips in January have been costing about twice what this one will.

We will probably drive the car to the Epcot area every morning and leave it there during the day so when we have late nights we can just drive home and not worry about busses.

We are going to sign up for the Minnie this month. Erica is good with doing the double. I'll not be signing up with a girls name. Maybe as the Party Panda. Robert do we have to wear red shorts in the go red for women 5K?

I miss you guys already.

Goofy Panda:hippie:

Wow, you guys are already signing up for the Minnie and making reservations. I am having Norm check at work if he can get time off so we can do 4 days. His boss usually takes that first week in May off each year, but he is retiring in 2008 sometime so I am hoping we don't have a problem. Norm is a slower walker and I am not sure he can do either of those races since they have a 15 minute/mile time limit. He did talk to the trainer at the gym at the gym about how tight his hamstrings are when he first starts walking fast despite doing all the stretches the trainer had shown him. So he is going to have him do some other things to see if that helps. After his hamstrings loosen up he can walk much faster. Hopefully we can be off Friday and then he can do the Sat 5K. I gather this race is mostly for women and is that why you must register as a man with a Women name. I can make him Norma. I guess if Norm can't race he can always golf or volunteer to work at the race.

I did see that the race is moving to Epcot this year and with the early start there is the getting to the race issue again. So which hotel area is better to stay at? I would like to do DVC points. I know there is a bus from MGM that goes to WWoS. Is that were package pickup is going to be?

I thought for sure I was done with the racing thing after Jan, but here I am looking at doing another race in May.

Training wise I did 3 miles on elipical and pump class. Today is a rest day and scheduled 10 miles for Sat. Week 10 is nearly done.

Robert--- Good luck with all your race related activities this weekend. You will have earned a well deserved rest on Sunday.

Dave---So Erica will be buying the drinks in Jan since you won that money. I would have her get that lottery ticket since she seems to be on a winning streak. You have got to love those AP rates, I used it for ToT weekend and got the AP rate and a $50 dining card. Since we mostly use DVC points I don't get us the hotel rates very often.

Kim--- Those witch hats were hot and by mile 4 we had them off. At least they made us easy to pick out in a crowd. I'll have to see what Jeanne can find from the Dollar store for us to wear in Jan.

Hope we hear from Kathy and Connie soon.

Nancy

What is going on with the signature. Only half of mine is showing and I see that other have ony red square with x where there pictures are.

Nancy

Good morning Nancy, how is our pretty princess from the north today?

Jeanne, Darlin, my race info on the bottom is correct dear. Jan 2008 for the goofy and May 2008 for the Minnie. Sorry for the confusion, I will have me beaten.

Erica is ready to go back now. She had such a good time. Next trip will be even longer and we can hang out with you wonderful people more. We didn't do some things we wanted to like the Wild Animal Safari because of the crowds this trip.

We are going to register for the Minnie this month but are going to wait on reservations to see what is offered, I'd love to get in on another great special like the Annual Pass discount again.

I'm having a time getting back in the training grove. I did 4 miles yesterday and 3 miles this morning. It was 30 degrees here so I did treadmill today.

Goofy Challanger Panda:hippie:

Dave: I actually were pink shorts with a bow on my head:eek:

Nancy: I have had DVC ressies for Minnie for about a month now:rolleyes1 Moved them to BWV yesterday. I sign up as Roberta:rotfl2:

Jeanne: They offer no transport for these races. You can't walk through EPCOT either. We took a taxi from BWV to DTD for the Go Red 5K and cost only $10. We hitched a ride with Mel from BWV to EPCOT and than rode the bus to AK for the start. After the race, we walked through EPCOT back to BWV. I am sure someone can drive us or we can share a cab.

Kim: Are you and Mike in for the Minnie Double???

Hey everyone!!!!!! Sorry just still trying to catch up with life, work etc.

Still doing great with no PEPSI, non since Sunday night, headache was only 1 afternoon so I will take it, and I am tired but that will pass as well.

Robert, I am not sure I could talk Mike into the Minnie, we are going to Disney in Jan, cruise in March, and another cruise in December.....but I will try.;)

Gotta ask....and I am sorry I don't know this but of all the walkers here who is going to Marathon weekend and are you doing the full or the 1/2 then of course there are those GOOFY people....boy you are my hero's I would love to do that some day.

Mike and I are doing the 1/2 but volunteering for the full we will be at water stop 21 or 22 can't remember which.

Mike and I got a 2K walk in last night, it was suppose to be a rest day but it was so nice out we wanted to get out there as much as possible before the snow starts to fly and walks consist of the dreadmill!!!!!

Kim

Good morning folks. I think I picked up the same cold that Big Vic and Kristi managed to get while at WDW. I don't think my body was ready for the blast of humidity coming off the plane followed by the 6.5K (in which I was "glowing" quite freely) followed by ride ACs. I did get a two mile walk in yesterday and the back held up fairly well.

Question for you experts-As I work on trying to straighten out this whole back thing, would it be beneficial (if I can schedule it in) to try to walk a couple miles both in the mornings and evenings one or two days a week to get in milage. My thinking is I need to get in more miles, but the back is making it difficult right now to go more than two miles at a time. I would stop if the back/hips/body rebels after trying it once or twice. Any advice and/or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey Bill, I think I picked up a bit of a cold as well. Nothing to bad however.
what was your bib # I am trying to check out everyone photos, they are so cool.

Robert, just talked with Mike and he didn't totally rule out the Minnie but we will probably be one of the last to register. I don't think it sold out last year.

Kim

The Minnie didn't sell out in 07 and probably won't. I will keep everyone up to date on %'s once they are out.

Bill: If you can get 2 a days in than go for it. It has less endurance value than 1 long day but will help in overall conditioning.

Robert do you know if there is a host hotel in the values taht is giving a discount for the Minnie??? If I keep costs down I have a better chance to convince Mike we should do this.

Kim

Bill yes more short walks will be fine, even doing a short walk at lunch to a restraunt instead of driving will help. Just try to get in as much walk time as you can even if it's 10 min at a time.

Kim, what die you and Mike think of the DVC presentation? Erica and I are considering it for a couple of years from now, when we have our house paid off we will have more money to spend on things like that. We are considering retirement for 10 years from now and would probably do 3 trips a year to Disney for 10 days each time. That would require a lot of points.

Robert, can we see a picture of you in the pink shorts with the bow? Going in drag is not in this country boys game plan.

Goofy Challanger Panda:hippie:

My bib no. was 3932. Only a few pictures of me. Although I don't look too good in them, I look better than I was actually feeling.

Also, thanks Robert and Dave for your input. Although in my effort to try to lose some weight before January, I may have to pass on the advice to walk to a restaurant. ;)

Thank Bill will check them out.

Dave: It was a great presentation....although late....lol

Bascially right now for 160 points your annual fees are about $700 and they said they go up 4 - 5 % each year. The price for 160 points is just under $17000. if you took there financing, which is 11.75% which I don't know about in the States but in Canada that is twice what we could get here, even more then twice. but just to use there calculations. The monthly payments where around $200 a year so that works out to $2400 per year plus the $700 for fees per year....so now we are at $3100 a year.....it doesn't make sense to us financially to do it....I am not sure if I am right in my thinking or not on this. Plus we would still have flights etc, food, park tickets to pay for.

Does that make sense or did I babble???? ALso although we loved the rooms they showed us, we do like the values are quite happy there, but if someone with a DVC wanted to give us points:lmao: the places are beautiful. Maybe when we also have paid off our house, 5 years 5 months....but who is counting.....lol we might do it if we could pay cash.

Kim

Dave:

I am not sure what DVC resort you are most interested in, but I would recommend keeping your eyes on re-sales or putting your name in with one of the companies that specialize in re-sales if you are looking for a resort other than SSR or AKV.

I wanted points at BWV as, based on location and theme, I thought it was the best fit for me and my family. I bought a re-sale contract for less than buying through Disney (including closing costs) at BWV. Disney, however, does have a first right of refusal (i.e., Disney can buy the contract if it thinks the agreed sales price is low enough for it to re-sell the points at a profit.) One thing to remember is you have a 4 month booking advantage at your home resort. You can book at your home resort 11 months in advance of your vacation and at any other DVC resort 7 months in advance. This was important to me as with the kids and needing a two-bedroom unit, we generally go to WDW as a family during busy vacation periods. Having the additional 4 month window at BWV helps us get into the resort before other DVC members can book it. I think this would be a less important if you plan to visit during periods that are not busy.
