Walkers Sharing Experiences

Hey everyone! I have what could be a stupid question but I am going to ask it anyway. If you register for the Goofy (the 1/2 and full) but only do the 1/2, can you have someone else do the full and would you still get the medal for the 1/2? Ok. It was 2 questions. Sorry.:confused3

Thanks for the help!
Bryan

Bryan: What are you up too???? The Goofy is a specific thing and I know that when you go to packet pickup they put a wrist band on your arm and you must wear that for the Half (which comes first on Sat.) then when you are finished with that you get the medal and then go over to the Goofy tent to show you finished the half. They then remove the wrist band and immediately place the next wrist band on and you wear that until you do the Full. After completing the Full you get your Mickey Medal and go over to the tent to show you finished that (The tent is only accessable, I believe, to racers.) You then get your Goofy Medal. You could do the Half and get your medal, but then not sure how you would go about getting the wrist strap on someone else. You also get a "special" bib for both races showing that you are a Goofy racer.
Not sure why you would be thinking of this? :confused3 The Goofy is the most expensive way to do Marathon weekend. Just sign up for the Half. Not sure what Disney would do if they "found out" that people were "sharing" the Goofy :rolleyes1 . Photos and bib numbers can be matched up I think if they have any questions.
Don't think I would try it.

Yep what Tracy said Byran, we know you were just wondering hypotheticly and not considering cheating. The Goofy medal is very special to disney addicted athletes, it's the right of passage into the elite.

Well, today was the day. I have finally gone the distance to say that I can finish the 1/2. And I beat the time frame. I was able to do it in 3 hours 1 minute. I don't know what that equates to in speed but I do know I was faster my 2nd hour than my first and I was a bit slower and a lot more tired in my 3rd hour. But I still did it and that makes me feel pretty good right now. I am hoping to be able to now take a little more time off before January.:thumbsup2

Just thought I would share!
Bryan

Good Job Bryan, you are now way ahead of schedule. Your faster than me, my fastest half ever was 3 hours 11 min. Good Job. :thumbsup2

Bryan awesome pace for the half. That will get you under the time limit at Disney with 20 min to spare.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Bryan your pace was 14:35 for the half marathon. Here is a link to a pace calculator, put it in your favorites, that is what I did.

Off for our 12 miler.

Walking Panda:hippie:

That can't be right. If Bryan did 13.1 miles in 3:01, his pace was 13.49. My best event ever was a high 3:01:xx and that put me at about a 13:52 pace. I remember because it was my only race where I came in under a 14-minute mile average pace.

If you can do that during a practice walk, Bryan, you will certainly FLY during the actual event.......
GREAT JOB, BUBBA!
 :cheer2:

Oops:rolleyes1 I thought it said 3:11 for the half.

The little panda slinks off to find a place to hide, after giving Jeanne a big hug.

Princess Erica and I did a very hot and humid 12 miles this morning. There ain't not cool walks around here till Sept.

Slinking Panda:hippie:

Dave: that 3:11 was my best half time.

Just wanted to say I did get my 12 miles in yesterday without much incidence. A little sore today, especially my left hip and right big toe.

Take care walkers!!

John and I did 10 miles on Saturday. The last 1.5 mile was all uphill so it got ugly in the end. Our pace was 15:24 but that's only because we were dying during that last stretch. I had my Gatorade, but didn't eat beforehand, so I think I ran out of energy. Now that I am getting back to the longer distances I need to remember to properly fuel.

Those hills will make you strong Jeanne. I do a lot of hill training and I don't mind them anymore. Now this heat and humidity is getting real old quick.

Erica and I always eat before we go on a long one. Walkers can do that.

Good morning!

GREAT JOB, BUBBA! That's a great pace.

Panda needs a bigger monitor!

I will be using the TM for a while. The heat is just a killer here, and now we have rain, so the humidity is kicking it up again, too!

Hi Connie, hey princess I have a nutrition question fur ya. As dry cereals go what is good? I eat dry cereal every morning with a banana and skim milk on it before my workouts. I eat, Cheerios, Special k or Shredded wheat usually are these good?

Walked a hot humid 4 miles this morning. First mile was a 14:02 warm up then 3 miles in 36:38 for an average pace of 12:13. Then ab work, stretching and pool running.

Hello Fellow Walkers!

Been lurking here - too many threads to keep up with sometimes.

Sounds like everyone is doing really good - congrats!

As most of you know, I have my first half coming up in 11 days and am a littel nervous. Have done my training, now into taper (understand taper madness - I need more exercise!) and just watching the day get closer. Thankfully there will be other WISH walkers and I'm going to start with the pace group to avoid taking off way too fast.

Goal for this one is to finish. Then I'll have a time to work toward for Jan!

Have a great day!

Liz: I'm sooo excited for your first half. Too bad I won't be there to celebrate it with you, but I'll be there in spirit!!!! Taper is hard, but you'll see that it will work, but like you said just becareful not to start in a rush and go too fast at the beginning.

I got my pair of Mizuno wave rider 11s today. I am going to try them for longer walks. I also got a new sports bra from Moving Comfort and going to try that for my longer walks. GOt both from runningwarehouse!!!!

Have a good walk everyone!!

Good morning Walkers.

Another hot and humid day today in the hills of Kentucky. I decided to hit the treadmill since I wanted some control on my speed and also to beat the unpleasent conditions outside.

I did a very good walk on the tready. Warm up and then progressively increased pace ending with a mile at 10:54 pace. Then a very good weight workout.

Something I've noticed and you have to be famililar with weight training to get any meaning here. I do my weights after doing my walk training, when you exercise extra blood is pumped to the muscles that are working causing them to temperarily increase in size. This is referred to in the weight training speak as a pump. You can feel it when you have worked a muscle group and it is noticeably bigger.

Well what I've noticed is that since I just walked hard for an hour and then go right to the weights I don't get a pump in the muscles I'm weight training. I'm wondering if the pump is necessary for muscles to grow and if so am I being less efficient by weight training after hard walk training.

Have a wonderfull weekend y'all

Good Morning Training Panda:

My experience in this is that once you have gone all out on the cardio, your body and muscles are fatigued so to get a solid weight training session isn't really going to happen. What I will tend to tell people to do when training them is to do a 10-15 minute session of cardio to get the body warmed up, then hit the weights as hard as they can (depending on their goals, that is) and then go back for more hardcore cardio. My Mom just joined my gym about 6 weeks ago and she would do all of her cardio first and then try to do a weight training circuit and couldn't do anything. She was too tired. So, she broke it up and has been reaping more benefits.

Now, with that being said, what I do is all of my weight and ab training first, drink a protein drink to replenish and then, cardio. I always stretch each muscle group and do warm up sets to avoid injury. I still get my "pump" once I am done. The only problem is that I do so much cardio that it is gone (the pump) by the time I leave.:rotfl2: :confused3

Hope that makes sense!
Bryan

Byran thanks for your input and you might be spot on with your ideas.

However I'm 4 months into a year long experiment to prove or disprove some personal theories. I truley believe that we haven't learned all we can learn about training so I'm thinking out of the text book so to speak on this. If my ideas don't give me the results I want by the end of the year's trial I'll look at modifications. Remember I'm trying to turn an ordinary average Joe into a national class athlete. That and coming off 35 years as a smoker and 7 years of inactivity as well as being almost 57 years old.
