Is it possible to walk into a deluxe resort without a reservation and try and get a room, or will they make you go thru CR? I received an excellent price on a Savannah view room at AKL by just walking up and asking, BUT, I had a reservation at the WL which they just switched for me. I don't know if the same thing would happen if I was not in the computer at all. Thanks for any help.

Great question! Just bumping it up for you. Hope someone has the answer!

What a great idea, sandyneck (one of my favorite beachs BTW!!!)! I would have never thought to just go up and ask. Don't know why they couldn't key in all the info for you from their computer!

I never thought of trying that. Please tell us what you meant by "excellent price". I am curious to see if it would be worth my time. We have ressies at POR for Oct. Please explain what you did:Pinkbounc
Do I not show up at POR at all, then TRY a deluxe? Sorry if I am being tooooooooo nosy (character flaw, sorry). But with a family of 5, we were limited to POR or to a deluxe.
Please tell all.....:hyper:

Walk up. If a room is available, you will pay rack rate.

But she said she got a good deal - so couldn't have been rack rate. If it is rack rate, why not reserve it before arriving?

O.K. here are the details. I had a rate of $180.00 for a woods view at WL for one night. My husband wanted to stay at AKL so I called CR while we were driving to WL and asked about changing resorts. The rate was over 300 for AKL. My husband wanted to at least see the resort so we drove there before WL. He told me to go up and ask at the desk if we could switch our ressies. I told him he was crazy, but I said a prayer and headed up. I told the CM our situation and asked if there were any Savannah rooms available and if so, how much more would it be. He went in the back and came back and started checking me in. I asked him how much it would be and he said "Looks like this is your lucky day, I am giving it to you for the same rate" I am not advising anyone to do this as you may be disappointed, I was just wondering if anyone else has done it. We just planned a quick trip to FL for March and could spend 1 night at Disney. Even with a AAA rate a Savannah view is 366! I was thinking of trying that again, but I am not sure it would work if I didn't already have a reservation. It never hurts to ask anyway. If you have res. somewhere else if they say no, at least you still have a place to stay.

Thanks, Sandyneck!
Like you said, it wouldn't hurt to try. Especially if we already have a place to stay. Yes, I guess it WAS your lucky day!

Walk-in reservations are much more common during a slower time of year. Here's an example: on our last day back in late April 2001 we checked out of Corando Springs and headed to the Magic Kingdom. Our original plan called for dinner at the Contemporary, and then drive back to Miami.

Fortunatvely it didn't work that way. After a few drinks at the Outer Rim Lounge, we decided, "We're tired. Let's see if anything's available." I marched down to the lobby with my best friend's girlfriend and asked the CM at Check-in (there was not a soul around). "Do you have any rooms for the night?" Sure enough there were! We ended up paying a Florida Resident rate, and split into five people it was a very good deal. We dined at the Concourse Steakhouse, had mor edirnks at the Outer Rim, and took a midnight swim at the pool. The next morning, after breakfast at Kona Cafe, we left fully refreshed at noon. Now THAT's a vacation.
