Walk from gates to Katella?

I am planning our next trip to the mouse and was wondering what the walk was like from the gates to Katella? I am thinking of staying at the Sheraton just on the other side of Katella and was wondering how long that walk would be? We will have a 3 (DS) and 6 (DD) year old. I will have a stroller for the little one and DD is pretty good about walking. 10-15 minutes?

Also, is safety an issue? DH said that he doesn't want to have to walk that far in the dark if it isn't super safe?

Last year we stayed at the Anaheim Plaza and we don't want to return. I don't mind walking, just was wondering how far the walk was?

We are going 9/7-9/11, if you think that is a bad time, please speak up.
Thanks

I'd say it's more like 15-20 minutes, especially walking with a 6 year old. I know my 6 year old has a really hard time making it back to the HoJo and that's only about 10 minutes.

I think it's a great time of year to go as far as crowds are concerned.

The Sheraton is a little more than "just beyond" Katella. It's like another LOOONNNGG block. It's doable, but your kids will definitely get tired. I believe the ART bus goes there, or you could always hop on the Candy Cane Inn bus and then walk from there (I know, not completely kosher, but if you tip the driver well...)

They have a free shuttle, we stayed there in March and used the Shuttle with no problems. I don't remember what the times were, but they ran all day, you could call and find out the hours.

I know the Sheraton Anaheim has a shuttle, but does the Sheraton PARK?--which is the one this poster is referring to.

Have you seen this map? http://www.geocities.com/ashpsyche/DisneylandLinkMap.html

It doesn't give distances, but you can see how populated the area is with hotels, which means tourists, which means crowds and safety in numbers. :)

It also shows many other closer hotels, just in case you start to think about changing. (though I don't even see your hotel on the map...I assume it's some other hotel that changed its name from when the map was made):flower3:

Thank you so much for all the replies, I guess that will be too far...That map will be a great resource Bumbershoot...I liked the Fairfield too but, their pool will be closed when we are there....Hmmm....decisions, decisions...
Thanks again

We just stayed at the Sheraton Park last week. The walk was 15 - 20 minutes depending on the lights. You cross two streets Katella and I think, Disney Way. There are pedestrian lights at both streets and we never felt unsafe. The latest we ever left was 10:00 p.m. At the end of the day when we were tired, the walk wasn't quite as fun as going there, so I don't know if your kids would be up to it. I was under the impression that the Sheraton Anaheim shuttle was free but that you had to pay for a shuttle at Sheraton Park and it went to other hotels, so we didn't even look into it.

The Sheraton Park was very nice and we had a great view of California Adventure from the 11th floor.

We stayed on Katella in 6-05, but not at Sheraton. Needless to say, we will not be staying on Katella again, the walk was just way to much for me at the end of the night when we are all tired. But again, I was 7 months pregnant.

This past March, SIL stayed on Katella, she will never again either, just to dang far at the end of a long day.

Take the Disney Parking lot tram for the Timon Parking lot. It will drop you off fairly close to Katella. Walk across the parking lot toward the Anaheim Convention center. There is a gate/opening in the fence from the parking lot to Katella. You can cross the street right there to the Convention Center and to the hotel.

These instructions are good for the Mariott and Hilton but the Sheraton, Clarion Courtyard and Doubletree are still a 1/2 block east from the intersection to cross Katella near the Timon parking lot. And that is a big 1/2 block!!!;)

Well excuse me, but where does it say "PARK" in her post? I didn't realize there were two so close to the park.

You cross Ball to get to the Anaheim Sheraton. You cross Katella to get to Sheraton Park. Relax.... Happy Thoughts!!!! ;)

Neither did I just there was the the one at the top of DL. On Ball Road.

I didn't realize that there were two Sheratons, I don't know what the name of the one is that I was talking about, but it looked just on the corner of Katella and Harbor. Thanks for all the replies...

Now, I am really confused, I do think that the walk will be too much at the end of the night. I was looking at AAA and saw that members get free parking at DL?? Has anyone done this? If so, then I guess I won't worry about the walk.

Thats a bit of a walk, even at the start of the day. For myself and my gf i'd say no problem if the price is good and there was nothing closer. If there was something closer but slightly more costly or slightly less nice, I'd take it. With children, I'm not sure. I have no disney experience with kids, but my gf wants to take her nieces who are 4 and 6 and I'm pretty sure having spent some time with them that they wouldn't hold up to that walk, particularly to start and end the day, and in the heat as well. Its a bit far. If you look on google earth you see that its basically the entire lenght of disney but then plus some because of the free way, its out behind all the disney office buildings basically. Its about twice as far away as the fairfield it seems, fairfield is slightly closer than hojos.

I'd probably end up taking a taxi home at night. I know AAA members get free parking at WDW, its easy enough, if the same is true at DL that'd be great, you do have to book through WDW I think to get that free parking though, just cant show up with the card, may be the same or diff at DLR, you'd have to check. Driving is going to be a time suck, drive to the parkade, which looks awkward from where you are, then get the tram, ride it over, etc. Its goign to be a trek that way too.

Im not sure my post is too helpful as it doesn't present too many suggestions. Im not sure what I'd do myself, probably stay at a different hotel with kids or just stay there and walk then taxi if I felt so inclined later. Added costs I guess but the hotel is probably nicer than what'd you get closer and cheaper so it probably works out? I'm sure you'll have a great trip :)

I think you have to book your package through AAA to get that free parking deal.

I wouldn't rule out walking in the mornings (with the stroller). I think you'll have to figure a different way to get back in the evenings, though, when your kids are tired. The ART bus is an option, if you want to look into that.

Desert Inn and Suites is right across from the DL. They have several suite and deluxe rooms. You can come and go and even take naps in the hot afternoons!
Check out their suites and prices!!
