Anyone have any info on this property to stay a long weekend. 2 adults 2 kids. Just want to relax, play at parks some but hang at resort a lot. The nightly price rivals that of a moderate resort. Just trying to see pros cons of WA vs moderate resort. Thanks.

I didn't stay there but walked over and checked out the property while I was staying at WBC this past March. This is going to sound silly but it's true nonetheless -- when I walked thru the doors into the lobby it just smelled like upscale experience. I wish I knew what they were using. :) Anyway, the grounds and pool were quite nice and guests can also use the Hilton's pool next door.

The location is great; within Disney gates and basically adjoins CBR. It's also very close to DTD. I do think there might be a fee to park and a resort fee??? Hopefully someone that's stayed there can weigh in and give a more definitive answer.

The hotel is gorgeous and you'll get a much bigger and more luxurious room than even a Disney deluxe. Will it have the ambiance of Grand Floridian or Polynesian? No. But it's a luxury hotel with great service, good food, and a good pool. It will be much nicer than a Disney moderate resort. They do have a shuttle- our friends used it for Magic Kingdom in March, and loved it.

Just make sure you add in the daily resort and parking fees to your total cost!

We stayed there in May. It was nice, but a bit sterile. It feels very much like a convention resort as it's connected to the Hilton and lots of grand ballrooms and conference spaces. You definitely get more bang for your buck. We had a small suite with a living room and king bedroom for less than staying at any Disney deluxe. The Waldorf pool is nice. The Hilton pool is more fun - it has a lazy river ride. Spa is gorgeous and food is good, though a little overpriced.

We used their transportation to the Magic Kingdom and it was fine.

You definitely will not feel like you are staying at Disney if you stay at the Waldorf. Personally, I wouldn't stay there again. I missed being at a Disney resort, but to each his own!

If you don't want to be that removed from the Disney experience and still want a great hotel for about the same price as a mod, look into the Swan or Dolphin. The amenities aren't as high end as the Waldorf, but they are lovely hotels, with great restaurants within walking distance to EP and DHS. They have a great pool, spa and they are right across the street from Fantasia mini-golf. Tons to do without going to a park. If I had to stay "off-property" again, I would choose Swan/Dolphin over the Waldorf.

In my opinion, the Waldorf (I stayed 8 nights last year in a 1 bedroom suite) is more luxurious than the Grand Floridian or the Poly. (and I have stayed in the GF, Poly, Boardwalk, Beach Club).

If you are really into the Disney theming, you may miss that...but the level of luxury is above. To me, as much as I loved Poly, it is in serious need of some TLC and I find it to be a little "grimy" now. We did also see children at the Waldorf and they were enjoying it. You can walk over the the Hilton to use their pool (kid heaven).

Thanks all. We love going to all the parks but do not mind driving. We are doing a long weekend before school starts back so just trying something different. We booked with the unlimited golf package so we will play golf in the mornings, play at pool in afternoon then parks in evening.

I'd love to hear your thoughts after you stay there. I'm definitely interested in the Waldorf as I see the 1 BR suites are reasonable.

I don't know if this will help or not, but if you are open to using hotwire, there is a 5 star resort in the Lake buena Vista - Downtown Disney area with pretty reasonable rates. I was looking in Oct and this mystery hotel is $188 a night plus fees.

Anyways, if I was going to make an educated guess, I would say this is the Waldorf Astoria. Now, I don't know how a rate like that compares to what you are seeing, but if it sounds fair, it wouldn't hurt to check it out.

Just keep in mind that if you are a Hilton Honors member you won't get points if you book the Waldorf on a site like Hotwire. If that matters to you. Last year people were booking the Waldorf on a budget travel website for something like $165 nt.

Does anyone know whether you can walk to the Hilton and take advantage of kids eat free with a paying adult? Is that offer only for Hilton guests?

We are headed back to the Waldorf for our second stay. We've also stayed club level at the Polynesian and in the Grand Floridian main building (to compare to Disney deluxes), and I have definitely been accused of being a hotel snob.

Speaking as such, Waldorf is head and shoulders above either of those top-end Disney resorts in terms of actual luxury, for sometimes about half the price. We booked "deluxe" Disney-view suites both times, and used the standby upgrade to the Waldorf Disney-view suite for a modest up charge, which was totally worth it. (We went during slow times, so no guarantee that that's always available, but if it is, you will be offered the potential paid upgrade option after you make a reservation; at least you will if you're an Honors member.)

Hands down the best view of EVERY Disney park we've ever had. Epcot's Spaceship Earth was perfectly framed out the bedroom window, Magic Kingdom (distant) and Hollywood Studios (directly in front) off the balcony. Spectacular fireworks views.

I also found the service at the Waldorf to be far superior than what I've experienced at Disney resorts. They really went above and beyond to make you feel welcome and comfortable. Beds are comfortable. Rooms were super quiet. And my young son enjoyed himself there immensely.

The Hilton pool complex, accessible to Waldorf guests, is nicer than just about any pool on Disney property, save Beach and Yacht clubs, though the slide is pretty small. Lazy river is a lot of fun, though. We actually liked the Waldorf pool a lot. There's a big zero entry one and my son always found kids to play with so we only walked down to the Hilton once or twice.

Food was excellent. Ate at Bull and Bear, which is a seriously good steakhouse, and the Oscar's breakfast, free if you're a Hilton gold member, was a HUGE, fancy, multi-room buffet with lots of cook-to-order stations and just about anything you could think of. We didn't do it on early park mornings, but loved it on our lazy days.

Yes, transportation options are more limited to Magic Kingdom, but as someone who loathes Disney buses, that was our only loss. It's located right next to a Disney moderate (forget which one, maybe Caribbean beach?)--actually closer to the parks than it is--and around the corner from Hollywood Studios and Downtown Disney. We actually found it faster to drive to most of the parks from the Waldorf than the Grand.

Honestly, everything just seemed much more relaxing at the Waldorf than at any of the Disney resorts we've stayed in, or visited. And for room quality, service and price ... I don't think you can beat the Waldorf.

The Ritz, and we're normally big Ritz fans, is a serious hike from the parks. (It's closer to Sea World.) Nice, and part of the big JW campus, but I wouldn't want to stay there if I had any intention of visiting the Disney theme parks.

Non zoomed in view from our corner suite bedroom window. It was even more impressive in person ,especially when Disney calls seeing 2" of Space Mountain a "theme park view" and charges an extra $100/night for it.

The Waldorf is infinitely better than any moderate, and frankly, deluxe resort on Disney Property. You do not get the Disney theming, but you get a much better product for your dollar.
