Waking Tinkerbell getting out of hand?

You should have seen her eyes when the pixie dust sparkled .That's why it's for little kids!

I know! It's not like it's discrimination, but little kids are the ones who really believe that they're waking up Tink! As much as adults or teens might want to do it, they know they're not. That's why they should leave it for the little kids who still believe. It's not like they can accomodate everyone who comes in and just won't let adults do it. They can only do one a day!

I never the magic is just for the children. There's plenty of magic to go around. I said running around a store with a 'magic' wand shouting 'Wakeup Tink' to a flashlight is for the children.

Oh my god!! Awsome, B.R.!! I can just imagine me, a 36 year old man, 6'2", 195 lbs. running around Tinkerbell's Treasures with a magic wand shouting "wake up, Tink"!!!
Honestly, if you've got the testicular fortitude to nudge out a small child to take part in this activity, then you've got enough toughness, or cluelessness, to withstand the many, perfectly appropriate, looks of disappointment and disgust from the kids and their parents in attendance. It is beyond me why an adult would do this, but...O.K....let's get crazy, baby!!

I think the rule should be that you can't ask for the "magic". Let the CMs pick whoever they wish.......at any time during the day. It is so much more "magical" when you least expect it.

I have to agree that it's so cool to see the little kids with their lit up faces and know that they really believe. I work at The Disney Store and it's so much fun to watch the kids walk in and just be in total awe.

If this event is that popular, why can't they let more than one child do it? If several families get there at the same time, why not give all the kids a wand, count to three and they all wake Tink together?

I don't like the idea of having a CM pick a child, because they may tend to only pick certain types of kids. I wonder how often a boy would get picked? Would a 10 or 11 year old ever get picked?

I'm another one for letting the smaller children, who may really believe they are waking Tink, have first dibs. If it gets too popular I won't be surprised if waking Tink becomes a perk for resort guests like the rumored fastpass change. On a personal note, I think they should have something for us adult males. Perhaps waking Sleeping Beauty!

Disneyglobegirl - Was this on May ? If so the 2 young girls were my daughters. My fast twin made it through the door to Tinklerbells Treasures first. The two 13 - 15 year olds ran in after her. The CM was in the back so while my daughter ran to the counter where you wake Tink the 2 teens ran to the clerk in the back. When the CM came out she had no idea who was first. The 2 teens claimed tro be first . I turned to the teens parents and said "you know she was first" they agreed and told their daughters to calm down. They were very nice about it but the 2 teens were less than gracious.

Your right though it is out of hand. Our first time trying to wake Tink we met a family who had been at the gate since 7AM to wake Tink Their 5 year old was so cute waking tink and waving that little wand. You should have seen her eyes when the pixie dust sparkled .That's why it's for little kids!

Hey Big Crit - LOL - Yes it was, so it must have been your girls that got to Wake up Tink - I'm really glad that they did get to wake up Tink - I wasn't in the store to see who got to the counter first but I definately saw them get to the door first and I saw the older girl racing to get around them. I guess I only saw one older girl not two as we were standing back just trying to watch your girls Wake Up Tink. I really hope that the older girls didn't ruin the moment for you and your girls and I am glad to hear that the parents of the older girls were gracious about it. I didn't think this thread would cause such a stir - LOL - I truely hope that more young girls or boys get the opportunity to Wake up Tink I just wish the olders ones would stand back and let the young ones do this - I think it is just as magical to stand back and watch a young child do this.

Whereas I agree that certain behaviors are definitely not acceptable (i.e. the teen throwing a fit) and they are learned, I'm getting tired of the mantra that certain things should only be done by a child. The Disney parks were not created for children alone, they were created for everyone who was a child at heart.

As a married woman who struggles with infertility, I grow weary of the people on the board who say that older people should step back and let children experience things. I may never have children and it seems as though there's this belief that those without kids should "back off". Whether or not that's the intention, it does come off that way a lot. Now I'm not some meany who is going to stop children from experiencing things and get in their way because *I* want to do it, I would never do that...but neither should I be expected to give up something either simply because I'm an adult. You don't think an adult's eyes can dance too with the same excitement a child would have? Last I checked, excitement and joy and happiness did not favor one age group.

I understand that this is an exception in which a teenager lied about being first and threw a fit over it. The fit alone would have caused me to tell the teen that they would not do it, had the child been my own. But I do seriously think people need to stopp putting limitations regarding who gets to do what because of their age when that was never Walt's intention. I've said it a few lines earlier and I'll say it again....the Disney parks were not created for children alone.
