Waivers

My wife and I have half-marathon bib numbers of 50,XXX. We have never run a race/half marathon before, so neither of us submitted a time. I should finish in 1:45ish based upon my training. It sounds like I will be passing people like crazy based on the above responses of estimated times/bib numbers/corrals. Is this a safety concern for RunDisney?

It isn't so much a safety concern for them as an annoyance for you. If you are in the very last corral, you are going to have a hard time finishing in 1:45, IMHO. Plus, all that bobbing and weaving takes a lot more energy out of you than you would think. Can you find a 10K to run before race day? That would be my suggestion.

I agree, this is more on the runner than the race. You best bet is to try to get into a Santa 10k, if you can. Otherwise, I can tell you from experience that the grassy area about 1-2 feet off course to the left is a well groomed and smooth stretch path. You will have a speed advantage over the corral you start in along the grassy lane. Just try to hit the same foot fall spot as the runner in front of you and if you see a hip dip, avoid that spot. You will definitely not be the only one taking this route. While it has a rick, I find it less risky that the possible foot tangling in the first mile of the race. There is a bridge right at mile 1 that will neck down and slow the pack up some. Once on World, you have a wide and open road until mile 4.2. This is just after the TTC. The course necks back to a one lane road. Again, stay course left. A sidewalk will appear a few hundred feet in front of the water bridge. The course will slow up dramatically due to the upslope coming out of the underpass. Stay on the walk and you will pass hundreds. Note, on occasion Disney Security will post a cast member trying to clear folks off the walk. I usually run by, citing the 18-24" drop off. The final issue you will face is just after MK along the single lane stretch from the cast member entrance through Poly. I again hang course left to avoid tangling with the cones on the right. In the old days we could weave in and out of the cones, but there seems to be more traffic on the live side of the road now. Once past the Poly, you should be OK

3649...just missed the cutoff for B :/ I might try and see if runner relations will bump me up. Submitted 4:20 with a 1:52 half, but have run an unofficial 1:46 half since then on the training plan and hit my 18 mile run in 2:45 (36 seconds faster than a 9:09 pace for a 4hr finish), although i know unofficial means squat to them.

If not, oh well....still happy and this made everything real.

Good luck, unless you find a very sympathetic volunteer, you will need an 'official' set of results. Can you find a 10k before the race.

The other possibility is that if you get out earlier to the corrals at stake a spot at the very front of C. Once they start allowing corrals to move forward after A starts, you may be able to gain enough ground to slip into B. Or, honestly, you are in control of your pace if you can grab the front of C and can ease up to B in a mile or so. Really, you may catch the potty breakers who veer off course right just after the start as they come back up from the abyss.

I totally did not catch the unofficial part! However, if he submitted a 1:52 1/2 and I originally submitted a 1:57, shouldn't he be in B at least?

And I missed that.... It really depends on who is running. Seemingly there are a lot of nontraditional Disney runners who are speedy. Saying that, I would represent my original proof of time and suggest and estimated time a little quicker to see if he can make the jump.

They should at least bump you up to B. I submitted a 1:57 (I think) for a 4:00 and am in B. I am going to take my latest 10K (48:42) to see if it gets me into the back of A, but I doubt it.

I think my estimated time is what killed me, so we'll see what the expo brings. I was planning on trying for the back of B so i didn't hit the wave of 'speed' out the gate so we'll see what happens. My unofficial 10k is a 47 minute a couple week ago, so i'm hoping for a 4 hour as well (with a B goal of 4:20, C goal of finishing)

Here's to luck! My other plan if they couldn't do anything for me was to hop the net into the B corral after a side of the road break before the start....And a worse case scenario, it's all timed anyways and C is fine.

Big thing is I didn't want to start too 'fast' in the front of C and kill carb's early on...rather start in the middle/back of B and let the flow ease me into it. I have a hard time for training runs slowing down, and on my long runs end up having to tell myself, continually, 'slow down...just for a bit'. It's made a huge difference slowing down though, and I'm sure I can do it on my own, but any residual help is always good.

I was going to suggest a little confusion after visiting the canal...

If it's like anything like the half was last year, there will be plenty of gatehoppers for the treeline so I'll just blend in. Little misdirection is never a bad thing.

What really sucks is I pulled the bib number, and for some reason, remembered it as 3469. Saw the corral placement and was pretty ecstatic. Then went back and checked again it saw that I looked too early and mixed numbers up. Bummer to the max, but alas...it's only a ~4 min wave difference

What are the chances I can get moved up from corral F with a 2:38 half proof of time at the expo? I'm in F with a goofy bib with my 2:38 and my husband is in D for the half with a 2:45 no proof of time? I was at least hoping that we could run together in E.

Apparently....I have no waiver.
My mother said she signed three of us up. Two people have waivers. I do not.
When I asked about it she said "but they charged me $300-something for them!"
Which.... at $150/person for the marathon is two people. :furious:
There are no words for how angry I am right now. Not at Disney, of course.
I'm just... going to look into it some more and then go cry in a corner

I would think so. Give it a try.

Sorry to hear about this.

It may be worth a sad call the runDisney and explain the situation. I bet the answer is sorry, but if two siblings were entered and you did not get entered by the same credit card number from the same IP address.... You never know, magic can happen.

Absent that Craig has a list with several bibs tonight. Just do not know how that would work with any certainty.

FOUND IT! My mom never changed the date of birth after she registered, so it has "Mom's birth month/mom's birth date/my birth year"....
I can probably call and fix that, right? I mean, it's the right name and birth year....

So glad you found it!! I bet they can fix it. I was listed as male for a race before and it got corrected. :)

I originally submitted a proof of time of 2:36 (half marathon) which I then updated to 2:28. I'm in Corral F for the Goofy. Is there any reason to go to the trouble of trying to get moved up or should I just stay put???
I have several friends in F so that's ok but I also know that I'm at least 2 min/mile faster than all of them....

Thanks,
Amanda

Bring your proof and get reassigned. You can always stay in F on race day...

Thanks Coach! I'm going to see how my foot is feeling before getting reassigned. If I'm still injured, I might as well just stay with my friends!

Can anyone estimate how long it takes each corral to cross the start line?

Less than 4 minutes. Historically, the half started on 6 minute intervals starting with A wave at 5:35. Likewise the full started at 4 minute intervals starting at 5:35. It's my guess that both races will go off on 6 minute intervals since both races are the exact same course through MK; the point that the race has struggled to clear prior to rope drop when the marathon course passed Main at mile 10.2. With the new course, clearing in time for a quick clean up prior to rope drop is still possible since we clear the park at mile 6.3
