Waitstaff pushing alcohol

I have read some people felt their waitstaff was kind of pushing orders for alcohol. Has anyone experienced this. I am not really a drinker, just a very occasional mixed drink in social situations. I will be travelling solo and probably won't be drinking that way. I don't want to feel pressured to order liquer when I don't want it.

While DH and I generally do order drinks with meals, when we haven't we've never felt like the issue was pushed. EVER. And we've eaten literally HUNDREDS of meals at WDW. We've ordered everything from bottles of Dom Perignon to just ice water, and haven't been treated any differently regardless. In fact the times we had bad service we had ordered alcohol. :confused3

I think some people are so overly sensitive to the issue that when the server asks them if they've like to order anything from the bar they feel that it's "pushing."

I have experienced that and it was at the Flying Fish.....it was not a pleasant situation and the waitress ignored us for the rest of the meal as we did not want to drink.. it was clearly a case of ignoring as we were not drinking.

No....never.
I don't drink, DH has an occasional beer and that is it.
I can't remember any waitstaff saying anything about drinks at all.

I welcome anyone pushing alcohol on me on vacation ;) I do like wine with an evening meal though but dh doesnt drink wine much.

Never been a problem for us. :sunny:

No, we've never had this happen. I've never read about this happening either so I don't think it's a common occurrence.

LOL, I was thinking the same thing. I'm usually thinking "Where the heck is the waitress to take my drink order?!?" Mama needs a martini!

I don't drink in restaurants and at home hardly at all. Our group of 4 20-somethings didn't drink at any of our meals and never felt pressure to.

We usually have a drink with meals but have never felt pressure one way or the other.

I always wonder about a "clear" reason for bad service. We had bad service at Jiko, and I suspect we got a "not kid friendly" waiter. But maybe we got one that was having a bad night, or just got Mr. Sourpuss, or maybe he didn't like the color lipstick I had on. I can't say it was clear that he disapproved of the kids.

Definately not a problem at WDW. The most you'll get is "Would you care to order something to drink?" shortly after you are seated.

A simple "diet Coke please" response is all that's needed.

There's nothing like pushing alcohol than being on a cruise! I think they want you drunk 24/7.

Yeah, twist my arm...please!! :rotfl:

Never felt pressured (we don't order drinks with EVERY meal, often hit the lounges before our ADR).

How the heck does a waiter "push" alcohol?

"Something from the bar?"

"No, just a soda"

"C'mon, you sure? How about a Martini. Or some wine."

"Nope. Thanks."

"You sure? You have a certain 'I wanna get loaded tonight' look about you"

"Um, really no. Nothing from the bar"

<leaning in close>"Please order a drink....the manager will beat me terrible, he will."

"OK, bring a beer every seven minutes until I pass out. Then bring one every three minutes."

<smiling>"Right away, sir!"

I would imagine they would make recommendations from the wine list what would enhance the food. Never happened to us as previously buffet slobs, apart from the occasiion at Narcoosees and even then no recommendation was made so DH ordered 3rd cheapest on wine list! but I have put a stop to that this time. hahahaha

We always order alcohol with dinner at WDW, but have never felt pressured to do so. I have to admit that I'm pretty easily swayed. If a waiter suggested a great wine to go with what I ordered at say, Chefs de France, I'd probably order it. :goodvibes

We are eating two OOP lunches in Oct at Brown Derby and Sci-Fi and I know DH and I will probably order at least one beer or glass of wine. So, maybe we never have felt pressured because we always order it right away. I'm not sure. :confused3 Maybe I'm not the best one to answer this question!

DH and I really don't drink. I'm too cheap to drink at restaurants, plus we don't want to drink and then drive with DS in the car. (I am funny about things like that.) We typically don't drink at home, either. The liquor we have is in a very high cabinet and the bottles are probably dusty! Beer sits in the fridge until it expires. Maybe 2 or 3 times a year we will buy a bottle of wine, but we usually don't finish the bottle.

I don't recall ever feeling pressured to order alcohol at WDW. DH is a huge buffet hound, but we have managed to make it to a few places with a menu and I didn't feel like our server cared one way or the other what we were drinking. I usually drink Coke, DH drinks tea, and DS drinks milk or Sprite.

If a waiter suggests a particular drink I just say "No, thanks, I'll have a Coke."

But they don't do it that way at WDW in all our years of dining. It is just as OKW Lover stated....just a general inquiry about what you would like to drink. The menu sometimes list suggested wines including at Chefs. And if you ask, most servers will be happy to help but we've never had anyone encourage us to order alcohol.

Would you like to start off with a frozen margarita or strawberry daquiri?

That's about the extent of which alcohol has ever been "pushed" on me at Disney.. but heck, that do that everywhere these days. I can't count how many times I've went to Chilis and been asked if I wanted a Presidente Margarita! :teeth:
