Waitlists....during Food and Wine Fest

Now that this thread is talking about resales, I would like to buy a resale but for the amouont of points I want (75 - 100) the current owner has usually already borrowed sometimes into 2010, so I don't see the value if I purchase and don't get anything for my money until sometime one and 1/2 years from now. I currenlty own 175 pts. at SS, and would love to add on at another resort. Until current oweners reduce their prices enough to make up for the fact that I can't use any of the resale points for a year or two, then I will just have to be patient. With the stock market today, I can be really patient when it comes to spending my money. :cool2:

you bring a very valid point that is often overlooked......

many who choose to resell their contracts borrow all the points from the next usage year and gobble them up before selling.....

so you could conceivably buy a resale that won't have anything available for 1-2 years......

and.....you will pay the maintenance fee in the interim for points already used by someone else.....

that is very dishonest....in my opinion

Dishonest would be if they tod you that you had points to use and you didn't.:confused3 Dishonest is not selling the product and disclosing the conditions!

If you take the deal there's nothing "dishonest" Now when I have sold a "stripped" contract I paid the dues, that was part of the sales agreement.

And what the kids may very well be wondering is why Mom and Dad bought at SSR thinking they would WANT to pay dues on it.

IMHO assuming that you are "leaving" a timeshare to someone as an asset is not really a good idea. You are leaving someone something that requires CASH, that they may not have and/or may not want to spend. And I really doubt the "resale" on a contract with 10 -15 years left is going to be that good.

If you try to look at DVC as an investment you are in for a disappointment. In most cases you would give your heirs more if you took the thousands you spent on DVC and the dues and invested it for them!

Buy a timeshare because YOU want to use it, not "to leave to the kids" The kids may very well not want it!

you make valid points.....i guess "dishonest" is a poor choice of words....

it's isn't necessary this or that.....but there is a potential for someone who is not that familiar with how the system works to get stuck with dues by a particular "dishonest" individual....

if you disclose the terms fine.....but i am willing to bet that no third party resale business can stipulate that...if they do...then good for them

as far as willing it......it's not that i will ceed mine....as i'll probably see the end of it fairly easily (if waitlists don't cause a fatal heart attack in the meantime)....

but the point i was attempting to make (apparently unsuccessfully) is that many proponents of resales tend to complete ignore the difference in expiration dates on boards such as this.....

...my worry is that some might never consider that point due to inexperience or oversight.....that is not something i would let go unquestioned....

Let's get back on topic and keep the discussion to the Food and Wine waitlists.

Well mine has not cleared and on a whim I called yesterday for Columbus Day weekend.

Could get a studio at SSR for ONE night that I wanted. (I didn't waitlist. Think I will stick to my 2 room suite at the Courtyard for $89 a night!)

Well....all i know is that they tout the 85% success rate on the waitlists....still

I would have think that going on the waitlist at 9:07 of the morning of the 7 month window would fall somewhere in the 85 percentile.....not in the 15

...the numbers just don't seem to jive

And it is for 5 nights....not 14 or anything unmanageable.

Well I went on the waitlist for either BW or BC studio or 1 bedroom well after 7 months and cleared BW so I think that it's probably just your dates.

Yes, it does make sense that you could be the 15%. It's not 15% per day, that's an OVERALL success rate. I have a feeling the sucess rate for Epcot Resorts during food/wine for weekdays is significantly lower.

see...i knew you'd say that....

yes i understand that it's 85% of the total number of requests in a particular timeframe...probably a year....

but even still.....seems there is no point to a waitlist if you go on at the 7 month window and there is no movement....

just seems rather futile?

I've been on a waitlist for BCV for 3 nights since March. I had 2 at BCV, then 3 at OKW, followed by 1 back at BCV. Obviously, I'm really wanting those 3 nights at BCV because I don't want to move twice! (Yes, I was late in calling to switch resorts a couple of days at the 7 month window... )

Since I'm coming up on 30 days to go, I decided to call to see if ANY of the 3 days is available and I got the first one! So, now it's 3 @ BCV, 2 @ OKW and 1 back at BCV. If the waitlist doesn't clear for those other two OKW nights, I'll probably just cancel that last night at BCV in time to bank the points.

Crossing my fingers!!!!

Oh, and we did sell off some OKW points and bought some at BCV so I won't have to go through this again! I was hoping we would close on them before the 7 month window, but, of course, we didn't.... :sad2:

Well, I called a month ago, and was able to get BCV, studio, for only 9/27 and 9/28. I'm waitlisted for the 25th and 26th. But, I'll be at the Swan so it's not a huge deal. It would have been nice to not have to move, but two nights is better than no nights.

I was able to get a preferred view at BWV at the 7 month window, waitlisted for BW view and also have had no movement. But I'm not too upset -- we're at the BW:banana:

yeah...well....

to repeat....we booked okw at 9:07 on the day of the 7 month window and went on for beach, boardwalk, and wilderness lodge.....

21 days to go and nothing......

so i guess we'll just have to eliminate october from our travel months.....along with december, march, april, june, july....and any day off that falls outside of those months.....

membership is magical....:woohoo:

Or you will just have to buy points at the resort where you really want to stay so you can book prior to 7 months. We recently sold some OKW points that we bought in 1997 and bought an equivalent number at BCV just for F&W.

With more and more members (and more to come with BLT and THV coming on, not to mention GCV and Hawaii...) the competition at 7 months is getting tougher and tougher.

I agree with you.....

and it makes me a little ill because i don't really believe in buying off the resale markets.....

But the 7 month window has almost been slammed shut at this point...so it is quickly coming to that for us.

I've actually contacted DVC and inquired about dumping part or all of our Disney Institute contract back to them and buying into the contemporary....

I would love Beach Club....but the 12 less years of use seems like a shortsighted move on our parts....

My wailtlist for a 1BR at SSR just came thru today! I had booked a studio in the event we had to cancel and once our plans became firm in early August I waitlisted for a 1BR and it came thru today for 10/19 to 10/27 so we are in the 30 day window:banana:
I am on hold with MS services now because it shows I have 8 points left for 2008 UY. Since I had none yesterday and I went from a studio to a 1BR I don't get it. The MS rep tells me these are holding points. I've been on hold for 19 mins while he checks.......:confused3
