Waitlists....during Food and Wine Fest

Hopefully someone will be celebrating soon with the days I will be canceling today. We have to shorten our trip so I will be canceling Oct. 14 - 20 in a BW view 1 bedroom.

I got 1 bd BWV for 10/19 - 10/25 by calling day by day at the 7 mo mark. It will be our first time at this resort.

We own at SSR and love it there. I'm concerned about the long walk to the room at the end of a long day.

Good for you.....but i believe that DVC is closing the one day waitlist loophole soon and now you basically have to get all or nothing.....

we could not do a day by day (traveling with two other parties makes it almost impossible) and that is probably a big reason why we haven't had any movement for october at 4 locations....

Enjoy your trip....

For a trip from 9/28 to 10/5, I initially had a studio at BCV and wanted a 1 br.
While I had a waitlist, what I did was start calling like 3-4 times a day and seeing what was available and tried to work it backwards. first I got a 1bd for the last two nights, then the two nights before that, and finally got the last four nights yesterday. Now I knew that each time I modified the ressies, I was also modifiying the wait list and going to the back of the line, but my thought was that 1) a full week waitlist during the first week of F&W was unlikely to come through, and 2) each time I changed, I made my wait list smaller, so hopefully, I was getting at the back of smaller lines.

hope this helps!

this was the highest probabilty way to get a waitlist.....pick up the days as they become available....

but again...they are closing that loophole soon and now you will only be able to get a full stay off the waitlist.....that should change the dynamic alot

for what its worth, I just called MS to see if how I did it would not be allowed in the future and was told what I did was fine - the waitlist changes have already occurred, I did not have two ressies at different places/rooms on the same night, so if I was willing to put some time into getting what I wanted, that was my decision to make.

You can also have a very long walk within the hotel itself so make sure you add the request of being close to the elevator!

they misquoted you....

the release was pretty specific.....you know have to go on the waitlist for your entire stay....you can't chunk it up into individual night to circumvent the system....

...unless they completely changed their mind....which is entirely possible

I was wondering about that. We have a waitlist for 4 consecutive days at the BWV. Just today I was wondering if you could put a secondary waitlist in for each individual day.....guess not.

To clarify:

1. I originally had an 8 night wait list for a 1br and had a 8 night ressie for the studio.

2. next, a 1bd room was open for the last two nights, so I modified my ressie for a studio for nights 1-6, 1br nights 7-8. This made me also change my wait list for a 1br for nights 1-6, thereby going to the end of the line for those nights.

3. next, a 1bd room was open for nights 5-6, so I modified my ressie for a studio for nights 1-4, 1br nights 5-8. This made me also change my wait list for a 1br for nights 1-4, thereby going to the end of the line for those nights.

4. next, a 1bd room was open for the last four nights, so now I had modified my ressie for a 1br nights 1-8.

sorry if I didn't explain it better before.

Tigerlaw - so you actually CALLED each time and booked those nights yourself, correct? Did the waitlist actually work for you at all or did you call and book as they became available?

We've had it happen in the past, twice. Once was for our trip and once was for friends of ours - then both of our trips ended up being cancelled. :(

I'm quite sure Tiger called and booked the days that were available. Remember, DVC does not hold days aside waiting for others to become availabe. Unless there is an exact waitlist match, available days (from cancellations) just go back into the general inventory.

What Tiger did was call and book the days that were available. Then the original waitlist was cancelled and a new one(s) entered for what he still needed. That is still allowed.

What isn't allowed is waitlisting for individual days - so if you need 11/2 -11/9, you can't have a series of sequential waitlists for individaul days. . You would have to waitlist for the whole stay to become available at once. However (for example), you could call and book 11/4 and 11/5 (if available) and then change your waitlist to be one waitlist for 11/2-11/3 and one for 11/6 - 11/9. That is allowed. You take a risk, but shorter length waitlists are more likely to come through - because days are not held.

Not very optimistic myself at this point....32 days out and no movement from OKW.....

was really hoping to get Beach or Boardwalk....as the location is far more convenient with our infant son....

Perhaps if they hadn't sold a zillion shares at disney institute...wait...i mean "Saratoga" ....this wouldn't be quite the issue it now is...

I'm curious if anyone who HAS gotten a waitlist during F&W has gotten it after booking during the seven month window....and not just trying to move from their home to another location/ category?

At 7 months you are competing with members from all other resorts, not just SSR. Buy where you want to stay so that you have the 7 to 11 month advantage.

here is what I was told yesterday by MS. As you will recall, the question was if I had a 3 night waitlist and I called in and was able to get those 3 nights, why didn't they automatically go towards fulfilling my waitlist automatically?

the answer I got was that the three nights were assigned to my waitlist, but for whatever reason, the system had a question/issue with it, and so it required a manual MS approval, which takes a day or so. In the case, the nights were taken out of inventory that day and frozen towards my waitlist until such time as MS addressed the question. Then, later that same day, I call in, and so the MS rep I talk to sees the situation, and "unfreezes" the points, and all is well. I was told yesterday, that if I had not called in, my waitlist would have gone through the next day, as she assumed the point issue would have been resolved and the points applied to my wait list.

hope this helps.

p.s. carol did a much better job of explaining what I did in terms of calling in, getting a couple days at a time, shortening my waitlist, etc.

Thanks for posting this - it validates my understanding of the waitlist process and explains why posters report they "magically" got their waitlist when they called in. They didn't get what they wouldn't have gotten anyway - they just found out about it sooner. :)

That makes me feel a little better knowing that they froze those nights for you. I just feel very unsettled about the efficiency of the waitlist. I called today on mine and still nothing. Only the saturday night was available. If we were farther out I would book it and adjust my WL accordingly. But since I am less than 2 weeks out and it is only a 3 night trip I don't want to risk changing rooms.

I call every single day and they are no availabilities... nothing for Cash either.. I am beginning to think that its going to be packed down there. I am bit worried.. we are going 9/26- 9/30..

I am on the waitlist for VWL, BCV...

EPCOT will be packed on the Saturday and Sunday, but not on the Friday or the Monday & Tuesday. The rest of the parks will be relatively empty. Don't worry.

With only 18 days to go i'm still waiting...

I'm wait listed for Oct 8 & 9 (separate) for BWV - Preferred Studio...

At least I have cash reservations as a backup but I would LOVE to save the money and use points.
