Waitlisting one night at BLT?

I’m a pretty new DVC owner. Bought in 2019 and Have yet to stay on site. We have a 5 night stay at the Riviera in January over the busy marathon weekend. We have non-DVC friends that had to move their reservations from POFQ to the Contemporary. Thought about switching to BLT to be closer to them. BLT Only has a room category that’s available for 4 of the 5 nights (Jan 7 not available). I’m assuming there’s not a way to waitlist the entire stay and That I have to modify (give up) my 5 night Riviera stay to a 4 night BLT stay and then Take a gamble with a waitlist for Jan 7. I don’t have enough points to book two separate reservations. Is it possible to waitlist the entire 5 nights when 4 of the nights are available? Not sure how the waitlist thing works yet. I’d rather keep my sure thing rather than gamble on not getting my waitlist or have to switch rooms. Thanks for the help.

You can waitlist the entire time at BLT while keeping the reservation you have until the waitlist comes through. Just be aware that such a waitlist does not lock-in the nights that are now available at BLT, e.g., those could disappear while you are waiting until the entire reservation at BLT becomes avialable (and because of that, you should likely assume the odds may be against your waitlist coming through). Also, make sure you inform MS that if the waitlist comes through that it use the points from the current reservation and eliminate that reservation. Moreover, you will want to inform MS that you do not want the waitlist going beyond 31 days out if the BLT reservation uses fewer points than the Riviera reservation, because any points leftover from the Riviera reservation when the change is made would go into holding if a change occurs 30-days or fewer from date of arrival.

I didn’t even think about the 31 days out holding issue! Riviera does absorb a lot more points than BLT. That would’ve been bad. Thank you so much!
