Just called for ressies for 3-7 Dec for a 1 BR. DVC is totally booked (except for a studio for two nights) for that time frame. What's up with that? :confused3 I never could have imagined that scenario- especially with SSR, my home resort, as my first choice.

Oh, well, I'm waitlisted and since SSR is opening new buildings, I have confidence I'll get in. But, dang, y'all, this seems extremely early to be full-up.

no, the first two weeks at WDW is very, very popular with DVC members.

has always been so.

sorry if you want Dec then try in Jan.

otherwise it is the wait list. however the wait list will probably get you results.

I'm surprised too, especially since you want a 1 bedroom. Something could very well open up for you, I hope so. :wizard:

Maybe an ALV owner will be booking AKV and you get your waitlisted room next week!

I'm still relatively new to DVC and based on last year's first week in Dec crowd (or lack thereof) it never occurred to me that everyone I saw in the parks was a DVC member. I know why the week is popular with DVC pros. It's a great chance to see the Christmas stuff w/o the enormous crowds. We DVCers are too smart. Now that I know the truth, I'll plan further ahead. ;)

Yep, we were in the same boat! We tried to get at studio at VWL, our "home", back in March and were w'listed. DH and I aren't w'list kind of people so we got BWV at the 7 mo and booked 2 nights concierge at WL just to see the decorations. We're getting the best of both worlds. I am SO EXCITED about this trip!!!!

Best of luck to all you w'listers out there! I grant you all pounds and pounds of pixie dust! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

This doesn't surprise me at all, but it might have when I first joined DVC and didn't know. This is "prime time" for DVC members for a variety of reasons-low points, annual meetings (well, this year it's one big meeting, but for all resorts), lots of internet groups get-togethers, etc. When we first joined DVC, I called at 10 months and 3 weeks out and had to go on waiting lists. So unfortunately, many of us have learned the hard way!

I was able to get a one-bedroom at SSR at the beginning of July last year for the first week of December. Looks as if things will be a bit tighter this year.

The secret is out. The first two weeks of December are a pleasant time to go. Decorations, weather, etc.

Shhhhh! Don't tell anyone or they'll all be doing it! :santa:

I don't think it's a "new secret". When I bought in 1999, I was interested in staying at both OKW and BWV. I bought at BWV specifically because I wanted the first week of December there and knew it was popular.

We need more trip reports saying how badly the DVC resorts and the parks suck during the first two weeks of December.

There are crowds everywhere! The wait for Carousel of Progress is at least 3 hours in fact. It takes at least 4 hours just to get through the security checkpoint at the main gate. The DVC resorts get barely any upkeep until Christmas and New Years, so they are also a mess. It's horrible, horrible I tell you. :p

To the OP:
The bad news is I booked the last SSR one bedroom on Tuesday (from the 1st to the 8th)
The potentially good news is that I waitlisted for any size unit anywhere else. So there's at least a reasonable chance the SSR one bedroom will open up.

:lmao: :rotfl2: NOW you tell me! Now that you mention it, I remember how horrible it was, too. The day I went to MK, Carousel of Progress line was 6 hours and Capt Jack was boycotting Pirates of the Carribean.

Are you listening, people who have reservations? You need to cancel them right away. You'll be miserable. I'll volunteer to take one for the DVC team and go in your place. I promise I'll whip the parks back into shape for you.:rolleyes1

Not to mention that it is the lowest points per night season of the year! I think that is the key driver for many.

Yep, that's the key to booking a holiday vacation! ::yes::

Based on what I had read on these boards I booked our Boardwalk View One Bedroom day by day for early December.

I just put out a rental request on the rental board, and inquired of a DVC classified ad on TUGS for 12/30-1/6. I thought I was maybe doing this too early, only to be told that DVC is "completely booked" on 12/30 and 12/31. I'm so disappointed!! :sad1:

When are the new SSR units due to be open. Hopefully these will be available for everyone on the waitlist.

We tried booking VWL for December 3-7 and had to waitlist every day (we own at AKV, BCV and SSR). No luck with the waitlist as of today. On May 16th DH will try to book our December trip at AKV with an ADR at AP in order to see the Christmas decorations at VWL.

I'm on a waitlist for a Sat. the 8th studio VWL, ran out of VWL points, and had to try with AKV points at 7 months out. Oh well...now I'll be calling for that night at AKV which would be our second choice for this time of the year.
