waitlist question

I haven't used this feature yet and I wanted to know the right way to do it.

The dates I want at a certain resort are not available. I'd like to have a shot to get in, but will stay elsewhere when it comes down to it. So I want a reservation for these dates regardless.

How do I go about this? Do I make a reservation first where I can get in, then go back an wait list? Wait list first then make a reservation?

If the wait list comes through do they cancel my other reservation so I don't have to worry about losing points if it's within a certain amount of time for canceling?

I'd say, make a reservation and then wait list what you want.

I did this for our trip coming up in just four weeks and it worked out for us.

Good luck! :thumbsup2

Oh, I forgot another part of your question.....

They will take care of moving the reservation when your wait list comes through.

If you call MS to make a reservation and then waitlist for what you really want, be sure to tell the CM that you want that reservation cancelled and the points re-used for the new reservation if the waitlist comes through. You also need to tell the CM if you want the waitlist to expire at 31 days or 7 days. If the waitlist reservation costs more points than the reservation you have, and you are going no matter what, you can safely keep the waitlist going to 7 days. If the waitlisted reservation costs less points, let the waitlist expire at 31 days. Other wise, if the waitlist comes through, you will end up with some points in holding. It's hard to use holding points and they can't be banked.

You can also do this online. Make the reservation you can get. Then try to make the reservation that you really want. The system will allow you to waitlist. Be sure to read each step carefully so that you can choose whether or not to cancel the existing reservation and also to choose how long to let the waitlist go. After the waitlist is set up, you can cancel it if you change your mind. But every change you make to the waitlist will drop you to the bottom of the list.

Good luck!
