waitlist confusion

We’re waiting for Closing docs on our first contract – a resale. With the wealth of info I get from these forums, I hope to be armed with knowledge if / when I call MS and get an inexperienced CM.
Thanks to many of you, I have a good grasp of points booking / banking / borrowing, HR advantage, day-by-day vs end-of-stay booking, etc.

I’m a bit confused about some of the Waitlist details.
Example: I book 10 nights at my home resort (SSR) 11 months out. At 7 months, I waitlist day-by-day for VWL (assuming it’s not available) for those same 10 nights.
· As the waitlisted days become available (presuming they do,) does “the system” automatically cancel those days at SSR, or does it give me ressies at both SSR & VWL for those same nights, allowing me to keep both if I don’t cancel one?
· If I need to waitlist for more than one unit (for family / friends) can I use my name on both ressies? If not, can I do this by using my name on one and DH’s name on another? (contract is in both our names.)
· Do the ressie get linked, or do I need to specify that to MS?

You would only be able to have a reservation at SSR and VWL if you had enough points to make both. You don't make a reservation without points to reserve it. If they are being used for another reservation, you would have to cancel the first to make the second.

same questions - assuming I have enough points for all in my example.
thanks.

You can tell MS the way you want the waitlist to work. I currently have one out there for VWL which if it comes through will replace one at OKW. Ms has been told that this is the intention so they will cancel the OKW and then book VWL using those points as otherwise they would have to borrow points from 2008 which I do not want to do. You can also tell them that you are waitlisting for a second reservation but I would put it in someone else's name to be certain they didn't inadvertently cancel the first one. I did not waitlist the one for VWL day by day because if the 2nd and 4th days came through they would confirm it automatically and then there would be changing resorts every day if the other days did not come through. If it had been simply a new reservation I would have done it day by day and asked to have the days linked. I think it is sometimes easier to get the days you need that way rather than for the whole 5 day period. You need to tell the CM what you want to accomplish and then confirm how they have entered the waitlist. I had asked for any 3 consecutive days between certain dates for one waitlist and the CM put in I wanted the whole 5 days. I had to get her to change it to the specific three days for example the 24-27, the 25-28th, the 26 to 29th etc.and it still hasn't come through.
Good luck with your planning and it is very smart to get these things clear in your mind before you start dealing with MS.

Our contract is in both our names. If I make one ressie in my name and the other in DH's name, does it go in as one anyway, since we're both owners of the contract?
If this isn't the correct approach, how do you get more than one ressie, in different names, for the same time (assuming you have enough points to do so) ?:confused3

I have had ressies with friend's names, or my DSis's.

I think you will be alright, if you put your name on one and your DH's name on the waitlist.
