We are headed to WDW this November. It will be DH, DD4, and me. While at our local amusement park today, my DD proclaimed that she will not wait in a line to ride a ride! (We have been spoiled by early season, mid week visits, so no real lines until today.)

So, my question for all you BTDT with preschoolers, what kinds of things did you do to help pass the time waiting in lines?

Just trying to have some ideas tucked away!

Thanks!

Honestly, if my preschooler declared she wouldn't be waiting in lines we'd be sitting in our hotel room.

At that age my DS LOVED to draw. I would bring a small etch sketch, or a new special little drawing pad. He wasn't much for coloring, but you could do a small coloring book. Maybe a tablet with some games.

It's tough for little ones to adjust to crowds when they're used to amusements without waits!

We usually FP the attractions with "boring" queues (Peter Pan, Jungle Cruise, etc.) and choose to wait in lines with things to do (Dumbo, Pooh, etc). We play lots of I Spy, and some well timed goldfish or raisins always help. Sometimes we make a new friend when in line, or we talk about what our favorite things have been so far on vacation, and what we are still looking forward to do. As a last resort, we look at pictures that we've taken on vacation on either a phone or a digital camera.

Once we've waited in a few lines, expectations begin to change making things a bit easier. Hope that helps!

We have played I Spy and 5 in 10 (name 5 Princesses in 10 seconds, 5 whatever in 10 sec) with the boys. We have also played 20 questions and brought small notepads for tic tac toe games and doodling. I also have a bunch of Disney songs on my phone and we have sing alongs. It is fun to get other families involved too.

We play a 20 questions we game call good guy/bad guy-someone thinks of a Disney character and the others ask yes no questions like is your character a good guy? A boy? A human? .....

I have the hidden Mickey app on my phone so we read about which ones are in the ride we are about to ride.

Awesome Disney inspired ideas! Thanks for letting me pick you brains. Keep 'EM coming!

There is a free app called "heads up" that was created(?) by Ellen Degeneres. Your DD may too young for the app itself - but hang in for the concept. You have to describe something/someone to another person, and he has to guess. The game has things like movies, actors, songs, etc. BUT it also has a create your own deck feature. I put in things like Disney rides, characters, movies, etc. The bottom line is that you give clues about something and the other person tries to guess and you see how many you can get correct within 2 or 3 minutes. You can look at the app for the concept, but then create your own version (maybe with pictures) for standing in line.
