Waiting for DISNEYLAND HOTEL DVC Thread (see post 1 for updates)

Any more experienced DVC fans have a good guess on when they might start to sell this? I'm starting to pull together funds to buy quite a bit of points at the Grand Californian (would be our first contracts) but I'm wondering if it might be a good idea to wait and see the point chart for this property and what the price per point is. I'm looking to get a 1 or 2 bedroom for 5 to 6 nights each year and I wonder if I might get more value at this resort and also get the perks for buying direct vs resale. Any help/wisdom for a rookie DVC family would be appreciated.

One thing to consider is that the best discounts on Tower will likely be when it first goes on sale and for current owners. So having your membership (which can take several months to finish the resale process) done. That said, if you aren't buying a good chunk of points, it doesn't matter. For Grand Floridian's expansion here were Current member add-on incentives out of the gate and a month later and then New members for comparison:

I've thought about this too! I keep having to slap the crazy voice in my head that wishes the nightly point requirements are high so I'll need more points and can feel good about reaching a certain incentive level lol

But really I only need about 3 nights in a 1BR every other year...

Wow, those discounts for existing members look great and if they had something similar for this property that would be huge for me. I was going to buy about 400 to 450 points at Grand Californian and I guess that would translate into 500 to 600 points at the new Disneyland Hotel property. I'm guessing there is no way to beg a guide to get the discounts if I'm not already a member so I'll just have to consider the options if more news comes about about this before I'm ready to buy.

Why not get your feet wet with a small contract while you wait and then you'll also be a member and qualify for member-only incentives when DLT is ready for sale? You can always sell in a year or two if you end up getting all you need direct.

But no, there's no begging your guide to let you have it, I don't think it's even in their power.

With those discounts is there a distinction between those who have a contract bought direct from Disney vs those who hold a resale contract?

Nope, any member qualifies, regardless how they became members.
Thanks for the help and this info. I think I'm going to try and close on a contract ASAP to get in the system and try and buy 150 to 200 points at DLT when it goes on sale. We can just use our DLT points for a second trip to Cali some years, a trip to Florida, or a trip to Hawaii every now and then. Just hope they get rid of the 50 percent borrowing rule so we can just merge the points into one big pool every 3 years.

You may be misunderstanding how home resort booking works here. Each contract has its own home resort so the points you buy now will only be usable at the resort they belong to at the 11 month booking window. I could be wrong but I figure it’s going to be really hard to book DLT at 7 months, meaning lumping points from a contract at DLT together with points from, say, AKL for a big Disneyland trip will likely not work out.

I've been lurking on these boards and also watching a lot of the DVC Fan YouTube channel (Pete and crew I blame you for my desire to get into DVC and spend all this cash.... but really love the show). Based on this gathering of some knowledge here is how I understand it.

I want to own at Grand Cal and Disney Hotel to take advantage of the 11 month window to get what I want at those resorts. About 400ish points at VGC to use every year or so or bank/borrow that 400 points to splurge for a 3BR room once and a while if we can.

VGC will be our main goal but we can use the 200 points at DLT if we bank/borrow to get something nice (at DLT) every 2 to 3 years.

In regards to using the DLT points at other resorts, I figure that the risk of waiting to 7 months isn't as bad at Aulani or the Florida resorts as they have quite a bit of rooms and if we have a pool of 600 points to try and book a 2BR room there I would hope that the number or rooms available would allow us to get something...

I think the main risk and thing to avoid would be to try and assume I could use the VGC or DLT points together to book one large stay at either resort. I could gamble and try and book an extra night at the end of a stay with the other pool of points and merge them together but this would not be a good thing to count on. One thing I could see us doing is hosting family for a large event and using the DLT pool and VGC to book multiple rooms at the same time to have a reunion or something with some family at the other property just a few minutes walk away.

Sorry for that wall of text but I figure running my thoughts by some DVC experts is helpful to sanity check my understanding :)

I guess spending VGC points on other resorts is uneconomical because VGC $/point is too high. It would be better buying some points for WDW resorts or AUL, and reducing VGC points. Well based on the number of VGC points you want to buy, money wouldn’t matter though. 🤣

Oh the money matters but sadly I just found out about DVC a few months ago. I would love to find a DeLorean, juice it with 1.21 gigawatts and get it to 88 mph to tell my younger self to buy VGC at 100ish bucks a point....

I'm just going to make a commitment to not buy any toys for myself for the next 5 ish years and make this investment so the kiddos/family can have awesome trips for the coming years :)

They're your points, use them how you wish!
The biggest cost of ownership in the long run are the dues anyway.

Though if you plan to use them at WDW consistently, it would be worth getting some points based there
