Waiting for DISNEYLAND HOTEL DVC Thread (see post 1 for updates)

yeah, but even if the price per point is that close, without a points chart, the relative value is impossible to determine. I’m in the same boat. Every small VGC real sale contract that comes out makes me question my resolve to wait for DLT. I’m out east so only planning for enough points to go every other year. It’s a tough call!

aw shucks! that is just so hard. I can't imagine how overwhelming trying to use DVC out here must feel for our East Coast friends. Its just such a complicated system. That's why I also wonder how sales will be, i mean of course they will go and go quick but DVC is so foreign to most disneyland people (or at least those that I talk to) that I think disney will have to do a little work. Then again, many have said they will be gone in hours. good luck!!!!!

My understanding from the past when I was stalking a VGC direct-sale contract with my Disney Guide is that new sales cannot be all released at once due to UY requirements tied to construction progress, so I wouldn't worry about availability being gone quickly. You may need to be flexible on your UY requirements though if you're impatient...that's what I did with my VGC contract--I went for Dec UY rather than one of the summer months.

I've heard that the majority of VGC and Aulani owners are California residents, so I'm not sure that it's TOO foreign to us here. I mean, we own at SSR and BRV and we live in the OC.

I wonder what % of people that own VGC also own AUL. I can see that! when I first set out to buy DVC I didn't meet any who really had any idea how it worked. That is so interesting though! it seems that regardless of how Disney operates things we buy in. I know Ive done plenty of complaining about my Magic Key pass and yet here I am going back again lol

ok! thats encouraging, Ive heard you should try to keep your UY the same? Is that true?

There are different perspectives to this. Most would agree that you should keep your UY the same for easier management of points, such as one deadline for banking of all points. I have four contracts with three different UY's and I actually like it a lot that way. The first two were resale contracts in the mid-2000s, so I was mostly interested in price per point, availability of banked points, paid MFs, etc and not so worried about UY. Between the Feb. & June UY resale contracts I got, I found that I really liked June UY due to active vacation months between June through December back then, so no worries if plans change during last 4 months of use year.

I was really excited about VGC when it was announced so I wanted a direct contract from Disney with a June UY. To drum up excitement, DVC back then offered perks such as two platinum annual passes, 6 Fastpasses and 100 Founders' points, but you have to be in person at Disneyland's DVC office to qualify for these perks. I booked a one-day round-trip ticket to Southern California as I did not want to miss out on the perks and the chance to own at VGC. I didn't realize until I was presented with the contract that only December UY points were available, so I ended up with a third UY!

I put recurring reminders on my calendar 15 days before each contract's banking deadline, so it's not a problem for me to keep track. I like the flexibility of the different UYs since our vacation pattern has changed once the kids got older, so it is nice to have the luxury to play around with different UY contracts, but you have to be on top of it. I keep track on a spreadsheet but I can see how that may not appeal to most.

Wow! you are so knowledgeable! I am currently in progress of securing a June UY contract at VGC. When DLT eventually becomes available Should I try June or December? My main Trip times that I am currently planning are:

Jan/feb
May/June
August/Sept
Nov/Dec

thanks, Also major envy on those perks. so dreamy! I don't know if we will be seeing anything like that anytime soon lol

Should I try June or December?

I learned everything about DVC here from Disboards' DVC forums...such a wealth of information and advice!

My recommendation is to go for December UY for DLT if that is available since you are travelling pretty much year-round and it would be nice to have the 6-month stagger for flexibility. Note that if you have two UY's you will have two different membership numbers for the two different contracts.

I like the ability to transfer points between different contracts. One time (before iPhone calendars were a thing) I forgot to bank remaining points and rather than let them go to waste, I transferred them to my other contract and MS was kind enough to re-allocate my points for an existing reservation under my other contract to use up those soon-to-expire transferred points first.

Also, with two different memberships/contracts, you can purchase top-up points at twice the maximum allowed (I believe it's 24 points per membership per year, so with two memberships, it would be 48 points).

Again, you have to be on top of it to manage multiple contracts, but I think the benefits are worth it.

Many people do just fine managing two UY. Just keep in mind that they will be two separate memberships (even though you can access both via one login to the Member website). That means it's as if you're two different owners, and if you want to use points from both contracts to book at 7 months, you have to transfer points from one membership to another before you can book. Or, you can book some days from one membership and book the remainder of the stay from the other membership, but then you have two separate reservations with different booking windows, different ADR booking windows, etc. and have to have Member Services put a "continuing stay" on both reservations if you hope to stay in the same room throughout.

As above, since you plan to travel pretty much all year round, UY won't matter so much (as long as you keep an eye on the banking window for each contract). @Sandisw might give you some helpful hints on managing two UY too.

ok! thats encouraging, Ive heard you should try to keep your UY the same? Is that true?

We have two UYs now because we began to travel all times of the year and wanted to try and stay within our banking window in case there were issues. However, both UY's are large enough that they can function on their own and we don't combine the points for a single trip.

So, with our Aug UY, which has RIV and SSR, we use those points for August through March trips. For our Dec UY, which also has RIV and SSR, we use for March through August trips. So, really, our overlap month is March where I will book some nights on one and some on the other. But, we also like split stays so it works out as we do those pretty much every trip.

Now, I plan to add VGF points next year...direct...and those will go in my Dec UY..as we want them for Dec trips. It can work well as long as you just book different trips with different memberships. Sometimes, I will have borrowed SSR points in one, when I had some in the other, but the transfer thing is just a pain (for me) so I just don't worry about it.

I just like now knowing if something happens and I have to change or cancel, I can still bank points, but also have 4 months to get rescheduled with banked points that will expire!

thank you so much! I was so happy to have come across this page after scouring YouTube. you are spot on its a wealth of info! LOL to the before iphone calendars, sometimes its hard to remember how we got by!

thank you for the input! I will do that!

I’m very curious what demand will be. I’m anticipating it selling out in hours but many experienced Dvc’ers are not so sure! This feels like the only way we will ever be able to be part of vacation club as it just doesn’t make sense for us to buy anywhere else because at the 7 month mark there is just no availablity in CA.
This is the same with my situation. I'm in Arizona so it is a lot easier to drive to California, but I think that there is a high demand for a CA DVC resort. I'm hoping that there will still be some incentives from Disney to buy here. I am always on the lookout for Grand California rooms, and it is really hit or miss. Having to own there will be a must.

Here's the construction from a couple weeks ago. They were still in the process of digging out the underground part. It's the area behind the Disneyland sign at the pool that looks like Tonka trucks in a sand pit.

The way that construction projects are going now for Disney it may be a lot later in 2023 or 2024 if they are just doing foundation work

I was at disneyland hotel in September and they were working on foundational stuff. It was very noisy and people were complaining but I didn't really think it was all that bad.

the latest DIS unplugged Video regarding it, said they are anticipating more information next summer. Fingers crossed for something more definitive. I am excited to see all the interest on here, with parking skyrocketing to $40.00 a night I am looking forward to that DVC benefit lol

...What are Founders' points? any perks or is that just something to acknowledge you were part of the first buying group? If it's that I definitely want to be part of the 1st DLT group!

They were actually called Developers points. DVD would give you points from their holdings. The offer varied a few times over the years. Once when we purchased the points could be used anywhere. Another time they could only be used at SSR. Usually the total you were given was the same number as the points you purchased so if you purchased a 100 point contract you received 100 additional points to use within a certain timeframe. But that also varied a bit from offer to offer.

Ok, I did a search on Founders and I read about some folks at AUL, AKL and BLT being acknowledged as the first DVC Owners there. Did DVC do anything for the first buyers at Riviera?
