Wait - what?

Hmm says it cannot be combined

This offer is good for new bookings only and can’t be combined with other discounts or offers. The offer excludes Suites, Concierge, categories with restrictions, and 2-night sailings. Some blackout dates apply and this offer is limited to one booking per first-time cruiser household.

Am I reading this right? First-time cruisers rebooking onboard get a discount on top of the usual OBB 10% discount?
I believe it's applicable to first time cruisers who don't book onboard, but do book within 60 days after that first cruise.

DCL used to send random first time cruisers a postcard with a discount offer for booking another cruise within a certain time period after their first cruise. But I haven't seen any one mentioning such a thing for a number of years.

I wish they had done this after my first cruise. I did not book a placeholder on my first cruise because I just wasn't quite sure it was really my thing. After I got off the cruise and thought about all of my experiences and the fun I had, I was kicking myself for not booking a placeholder, but it was too late. I ALWAYS book a placeholder now even though I haven't been able to use 2 of them (well I still have until September on one, but don't see it happening).

It's probably almost always going to end up being not a great discount. $350 off a 7 night cruise is certainly almost always less than 10%. I hope this doesn't signal the end of onboard booking/placeholder discounts and is just a nice offer for those who hesitated during cruise #1.

I see. You literally cannot use this offer while you are still on the ship (and could still have received the 10% discount).

Still seems interesting that they’re giving first-timers a second bite at the apple like this. I wonder if OBB’s have declined since DCL killed the OBC.....

I'm really liking this offer and I hope its still valid for my cruise in September. I am a first time cruiser and I had decided against an on board booking / placeholder mainly due to the fact that you get a reduced OBC from Dreams when you transfer the booking. I have more or less decided to cruise again in September 2022, so this bounceback offer is perfect for me.

We got one after our 1st cruise 5 years ago and used it. We hadn’t booked a placeholder (the Wonder did not make a great impression), but used the offer to book the Fantasy.

Yeah I saw this too and was wondering about it! We’re less than 60 days after our first cruise but we did book a placeholder so I guess it wouldn’t apply to us anyways.

Why don’t you just list Dreams as your TA when you book the placeholder then instead of transferring so you get the full OBC amount?

Suppose you could use that discount for a third cruise (i.e., one different than the placeholder)?

Transferred reservations also get reduced shipboard credit. Disney has reduced the amount of commission travel agents receive for onboard bookings, including placeholders, so they have to reduce the shipboard credit they offer. This credit comes from the commission they receive.

exactly, as I'm a solo traveler I want my full OBC from Dreams

Why not do the placeholder while onboard? Then call Dreams to compare the OB deal vs booking through Dreams outright? If the Dreams deal is better just cancel the OB deal

Right, I know that, I'm just not sure why the reservation has to be transferred over instead of booked with the TA in the first place? Obviously I'm confused because I'm not getting it! Lol.

Hmm, maybe? I wonder if this is only from now on or would apply to those who have already sailed but are still within the 60 day period? It's not clear if Disney emails you this offer or how you get it.

Seconding this. I couldn't list a TA when I did my placeholder, b/c I'd booked with an online site (which is considered an agent), so I had to check the box to REMOVE them - but it's my understanding that, if you didn't book your current cruise with an agent, you can add an agent at time of OBB, and then it's not considered a transfer. (Though if you do currently have an agent, then that would be the answer to my question, I guess. XD)

Yeah I did the placeholder via the app and it gave me the option to keep my current TA (who I booked my first cruise with) or take her off the reservation. I chose to keep her on the placeholder, so whenever I go to book a cruise with that placeholder, I will book it through her. Disney even emailed her my placeholder confirmation so I had an email from her right away!

This is a good idea--very few first time cruisers know about the placeholder discount, and those that do often forget to do it onboard, like I did our first cruise. When you are trying to enjoy everything on the ship for the first time, remembering to go fill out a form is hard!

Am I the only one that thought it was in response to Corona Virus? I figured they had people backing out of cruises right now & found an incentive for some to keep their upcoming reservations. Maybe I've been watching the news too much.
