Wait to buy resale after trip?

Advice appreciated... We’re looking at buying resale and there are a few contracts we’re currently interested in. We have a trip booked already for 5 nights the second week of November 2020. Is there any chance of there being availability to use DVC for that trip after we go through the ROFR and closing process or are we better off waiting until after that trip to purchase? (We would be wanting a 1 bedroom) We don’t really want to pay cash for a trip right after purchasing DVC.

Yes definitely. Depending on your resort / room type, AKV, Saratoga, OKW, and maybe Poly would have studios are the 7 month mark. Plenty of 1BR should be available. Worst case scenario - rent out the points and continue with your cash reservation.

Right Now, you might have your points in 2 months. That puts us right around 7 month Mark,

Wanting a 1 bedroom is a good thing. As long as you realize that SSR or OKW are the most likely places that will be available for an entire stay, then it may be worth the chance,

However, you should also be prepared to need to switch resorts or room sizes to get an entire 5 nights.

We would be fine staying anywhere. It seems we are going the week after Jersey week so hopefully that will help. Hadn’t thought of splitting up the stay so that would be an option too! Thanks for the help!

Honestly, you would need a pre Festivus miracle to get a studio. Second week includes a federal holiday.

Fit because of how many people or how you like to spread out?

Be aware all Studios and 1Br fluctuate between 4-5 people.

1BR would be the best chance that week after 7 months. That week is extremely busy and will develop holes or total unavailability quickly at 7.

If you're already set on DVC, maybe you could/should still buy now.

Hopefully you'll get access to your points 5-6 months out from Nov. There is a chance to find a 1BR in SSR or luck with something else. If you don't find anything available, you could rent your points for $14.50pp (or going rate) and apply that towards your Nov trip.

Or building on the suggestion of a previous poster, you could rent points now so you are safe for you desired time period then make sure you buy a contract that has enough points for this year available for you to rent out to cover your trip costs.
