Wait time with FP

so if I have a fast pass for a ride does that mean I do not need to wait at all? Or is it still a wait of 5-10 mins? I've never used fast pass before so I'm unsure how it works

Waits are anywhere from walk-on (unusual) to 10-15 minutes in most cases.
