Wait Time For Luggage At Mco--i Leave Friday 11/30

A few minutes after we arrived at the carousel our bags started to come off. It took maybe 15 minutes from the time we got off the plane until we had luggage in hand.

If you are on a fully loaded plane, it can take about l5 minutes to unload all the suitcases onto the conveyor We have waited only a few minutes up to l5 minutes for suitcases. Be sure your cases are easily identifiable. Ribbons, stickers, bright tags.

Orlando airport has a bad reputation for having lots of stolen luggage. People just walk off with it.

Last week I caught some chick hauling one of my bags off the belt. She was not simply looking at the tag to see if it was hers, she pulled it off the belt and started to walk away with it. I was on the other side. I instantly recognized my odd shaped and colored luggage tags, and started screaming at her to put down my bag. I practically jumped over the belt and grabbed the bag out of her paws. She mumbled something and apologized, and I not so nicely told her in a very angry and raised voice that it was "Fine to check the luggage tags on a bag that's on the belt to verify it's your own, but you NEVER, NEVER take a bag that's not yours off the belt". I made very certain she understood me.

She looked humiliated, but a lesson was learned. I do not apologize for treating her that way. If it was a stupid mistake, then she learned a lesson. If it was not a mistake, then she learned a lesson. Some lessons in life are learned the hard way. I stopped short of telling her I'd break her stinkin' paws if she made that "mistake" again. I was not amused.

Good for you ducklite. I had a smiliar experience in ll/99 at baggage claim. My bag was the first one down the chute, and easily seen by it's lime green strap and tag. I could see the bag, but I was some distance from it. Someone else went over, took my bag, and went to find their family. I followed the person and showed her the id on the bag. She just looked at me blankly. I was pretty upset.

\Sometime ago, I read a news report on how Orlando is one of the WORST airports regarding people stealing bags. Too much commotion around the baggage area, lots of kids in the way and "helping". It's a prime area for criminals. The report told of trash cans full of ruined and empty baggage.

Also, I wish Orlando had baggage claim check before leaving the airports.

Thanks for the warning. My suitcase goes down that ramp Sat afternoon.

I think the amount of time it take depends a little on which airline you come in on. We have never had a long wait for NW, but I DO agree that the claim area is a mess!! We usually have unusual colored luggage and big Mickey head tags that are easy to spot.

We've waited anywhere between 15 minutes and 40 minutes for luggage at MCO. 15 minutes seems like the norm, but sometimes it takes that long to find out which carousel your bags will come out on (I can never find our flight number on the listings. It usually takes a while for them to show up on the screen).

Luggage wise, LAX (Los Angeles) seemed to have the best system. Our luggage was coming out within a minute when we arrived at the carousel (and, it is a "quick trip" from the gates to the baggage claim! - this was on Delta). Plus, they checked the tickets on the bag with the claim slips before leaving with the luggage. Nicely done, LAX.

Ducklite, I can sympathize. On one of our Disney cruises, someone simply took our bags home with them to Ohio!!! It wasn't even a mistake...they took our bags and theirs too!!! They were driving and tossed the whole lot in their car & were gone before we even finished our breakfast on the ship. We only found out because the guy was honest enough to call us, but he said he wouldn't send the bags to us until Disney paid for the shipping (pretty nervy, as it was HIS mistake). Thankfully, Disney paid and we got the bags back after a few nervous weeks (my irreplaceable Figment shirt was in them, among other items). Now our bags are festooned with taped stripes and loud colored hair bands that are cable tied to the handle so you get poked by them!!!
For our Thanksgivng weekend trip, the Orlando luggage was VERY prompt...only about 15 minutes max (I went to the restroom while hubby waited, and he had all the bags by the time I returned).
