If I ask to be put on a wait-list for a vacation in less than 40 days where the vacation itself is for 10 nights - how likely is it that it will come through???

Currently we are booked in a dedicated 2 bedroom villa at AKV, but at this point, we would rather have a lock-off due to the situation with the people going.

If I called MS tomorrow and ask to be put on a wait-list for a lock-off, am I pretty much at a 0% chance of getting it for a November 29th arrival? I know that December is a very busy time for DVC members.

No clue, but if you are having problems with your room mates, could you get them a studio somewhere else?

Are you at Kadani?

I've been wait listed for a dedicated 2 bedroom at Kadani for several weeks. I finally got 11/30 by calling almost every day. I am hoping for 12/ 1 & 12/2. I ask about dedicated and lock offs when I call.

Good luck in having your wait list come thru!! If noone is ahead of me, perhaps that would release the dedicated villa for me.

If you don't call and waitlist, your chances are zero. (Of course).

If you do call and waitlist, your chances are only slightly better. That week is pretty much sold out for all the DVC resorts and you need 10 nights.

But call anyway. There may be some movement at the 30-31 day mark.

Sorry there are issues with your traveling companions. Hope it all works out.

As long as you are 31 days out or more, why not just cancel and rebook at another time? Sounds problematic at best.

For 10 days all at once, 40 days out for a time that's been sold out for a while, I'd say about as close to zero a possible. You might get a day here and there to piece together most or all that time but even that's unlikely. Then you're coming up on the 30 day cancelation window where points would go into holding status if you cancel. I'm not totally sure why you want a lockoff instead of the dedicated. IF you're thinking you can later cancel part of the lockoff if they don't go, the answer is no you can't, it'd be a cancelation and rebooking of the entire unit. Even then, just because it's a lockoff, doesn't mean they'd even allow it to be booked as smaller units. They only designate a portion of the lockoff's to be booked separately. The other issue related to cancelations is the cutoffs are the first day of the reservation, not the date of any days canceled. For example, if you dropped the last day of the reservation on 1 Nov, those points would go into holding because you're within the 30 day window from the start even though the day you dropped is more than 30 days out, assuming it's all one reservation.

Like everybody else pointed out, getting a wait list for all 10 days at less than 40 days before check-in for this time of the year, your chance is essentially zero. If you want to call everyday and are willing to take whichever day opens up, you may get a few (non-consecutive) days.

Good luck!

That is pretty much what I figured. Oh well - it will be okay. We will stick with what we have.

Waitlists don't cost a thing and since there would be zero point difference you could waitlist up to 7 days prior to check in. If a lockoff is what you would really prefer it doesn't hurt to try.

It also wouldn't hurt to ask at check in - you never know what might happen - someone else may want a dedicated one.
