Waist-deep SNOW!

The Blizzard of 2017- not sure what the weather channel folks named it- hit us and it hit HARD. We live on an in-town lot where there isn't a lot of space; most of us don't bother with plow guys because we'd have to dig the vehicles out before a plow guy could get in to plow, and it's unclear as to where he'd plow the snow TO, except back out into the street (and the town frowns upon this, LOL!). I shoveled a foot of snow from my somewhat-protected porch. The different stairs were indistinguishable, and the snow at the bottom of the stairs was waist-deep out to the driveway. Neighbors helped me get one vehicle unearthed; there's a clear path all the way around and I can get the SUV in and out. The Kia Soul is buried- snow is at least half-way up the windows. The snowbanks are over my head... maybe 6 feet high, almost too high for me to throw snow over them. I need to clear a path to the oil pipe, which is around on the back corner of the house- not the same side of the house where the driveway is, and the snow is too deep for the snowblower! A friend is coming over and we'll tackle the path via shovel today. Not sure where I'll put more, but they are predicting another 10"-12" overnight on Wednesday into Thursday. I think with the Kia, I just have to wait for it to melt, because I don't have the stamina to shovel it all or any space left to PUT the snow!

Every time they talk about this in the national forecast I am so thankful they're not talking about where I am. That volume of snow must make life very rough indeed.

And we've had less than an inch of snow all Winter in total. It's supposed to be in the 70's this weekend. I'm seriously considering taking the boat out. Strangest Winter ever!

Western MD here, and we've barely had 2" all winter. We were at 65 last Sat, and they are talking mid to upper 60's again this weekend. Makes me glad I no longer live in New England!!

I watch the weather stations and see how much snow northern areas are getting pounded with

I think when people are in a crisis situation like the OP it's best not to rub it in that you're not.

OP - I feel for you. The East Coast always seem to get slammed with the worse snowfalls in the winter and hurricanes in the summer. Stay safe!

Fair enough, was not trying to rub it in, but I can see where it might appear so. It HAS been a weird Winter though.

Seriously? C'mon, have a sense of humor. I'm born and raised in eastern PA, not all that far from the Pocono Mountains. I know Nor'Easters and such. I moved to Atlanta 2.5 years ago partly to get out of that weather. When I lived there, I never took offense to anyone making a joke that they were warm and heading for the beach as I was shoveling out. It's part of life in cold climates.

Now off to leave work and drop the top in my Miata. Seriously, I am. 70 and sunny right now, I'm loving it!!!

oh please. The OP lives in Maine , they have seen snow like this before they will see it again I live in Massachusetts we've had anywhere from no snow to 118 inches in the winter It's annoying a pain but it's not a crisis

No need to over react, it's not like they're in the Donner Pass.

OP I feel your pain thankfully we're not in a position this winter but who knows could come later

I feel for you. I live in an area that gets a dusting or at most less than an inch most years. We got hit with 12 inches in one day and the kids have missed 10 days of school so far this year. The ski slopes are suppose to get all that snow not the valley.

I also have a Kia Soul and can not imagine what I would do with snow up past the windows.

OP here. I'm used to snow- I've lived in New England most of my life. As someone mentioned, it's been a weird winter. We've had minimal snowfall so far; before this week there was maybe 4" standing on the ground, which was fine by me. However... to have close to a season's worth of snow all at once is daunting. This is a double whammy for me, as my DH is in rehab for gangrene in his leg (post-surgery infection). He's been laid up for 4 weeks already, with 2 more, minimum, to go. The good news is, I have an amazingly kind neighbor; the guy who helped me out last night had the entire driveway done as well as a path to the oil pipe, by the time I got home today! I owe these neighbors BIG TIME!! I still had to clear off/around the second vehicle and finish the front steps and back deck/steps, but he saved me many, many hours of shoveling (if my back had held up). I am so grateful to have such wonderful neighbors!
