W.I.S.H.-Wide Monday Mixer!

:woohoo:

I love talkin' music! Someone else always has something I didn't know I want!

I visibly speed up and run "stonger" when I hear anything by Sammy Hagar or Van Hagar -- particularly "I'll Fall in Love Again", or "Dreams".

My other top 10 (in no particular order):

Rock the Cradle of Love -- Billy Idol
SexyBack -- Justin Timberlake
My Sharona -- The Knack
Gotta Be Somebody -- Nickelback
Keep the Fire Burnin' -- REO Speedwagon
Don't Stop the Music -- Rihanna
Hips Don't Lie -- Shakira
Happy Together -- The Turtles
Bring Me to Life -- Evanescence
The Devil Went Down to Georgia -- Charlie Daniels Band

Forgot to add -- my guilty pleasure is anything by Poison...

I'm either eclectic or deranged...

Great question! I'm looking forward to everyone's answers and hopefully getting some new ideas to add to my playlist.

In the car before kids, we mainly listened to Broadway showtunes. Now we add some kids CDs to that. Not really the best music for running.

1. Anyone that runs/works out with music have a sweet spot on their playlist that they repeat over and over for an energy boost in the rough patches?
In December, I was listening to Reliant K's Christmas album - I think they are a Christian hard rock band? I had never heard of them as I'm not really into Christian pop, until one of their songs came on the Xmas radio station. Anyway, got a good deal downloading that album on Amazon - there were 8 or 10 songs on there with a great beat.
Non-holiday, I like assorted Disney music. Running Disney races is a huge part of why I started running. The Cars soundtrack is pretty good: Real Gone & Life is a Highway. The updated Route 66 has a beat that is an exact 11-minute mile for me. :thumbsup2 At the end of a run, to get that extra inspirational burst, I listen to "That's How You Know" from Enchanted. For some reason I can run faster during that song. :confused3

2. Share, if you dare, your musical guilty pleasure. This may be the same as your answer for question 1 (many of us find ourselves grooving to things on the treadmill that we'd never listen to in the car!) or it could be completely useless for working out - whatever it is, we want all the gory details!
My guilty pleasure is some Disney Mania. It's less embarrassing now that I can blame it on the 2 yo in the car!

princessbride - You may also like Free by teh Newsboys. (I like a bunch of hteir, but that one is a fave). Must go check out Reliant K! I know I've heard some of their music, but can't think of any songs at the moment.

If I ever get a MP3 it would have to be Dance of the Vampires.
I'm in :lovestruc with that music. I give my Dh a :headache: I play it so much in the car.:lmao:

I'll have to pay closer attention to the songs. I have a running mix that is 7+ hours worth of music that are all songs that I enjoy. The only one that always gets me going (and has since my T&F days in high school) is Pour Some Sugar on Me. BFF and I used to always listen to it at the start of each meet.

I listen to podcasts, but I find that when I am running they slow me down so I stick to them only when I am on the eliptical or bike.

I usually listen to country these days, but for that little push I go back to the 80's. Journey, survivor, Quiet Riot, the Eagles, Aerosmith. The funny thing is that now my kids love these groups too :lmao:

Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne (cause sometimes I do feel like I'm on a crazy train) :rotfl2:
Bring Me to Life - Evanescence

My Immortal - Evanescence

Brain Stew - Green Day

Sweet Child of Mine - Guns N' Roses

Welcome to the Jungle - Guns N' Roses

Blurry - Puddle of Mudd

Psycho - Puddle of Mudd

Teenage Dirtbag - Wheatus

Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd (what every good Southern girl should listen too ;) )

Quite a mix there isn't it.

Now that's my kind of playlist. I don't run with my iPod, but I do like to crank it up in the car on the way to a run or race. Here's a random assortment of what's on there, 2 per band is all that's allowed.

Disturbed - Indestructible, Down With The Sickness
Five Finger Death Punch - No One Gets Life Behind, The Bleeding
The Clash - London Calling, Radio Clash
Green Day - Minority, Longview
Guns N' Roses - Paradise City, Sweet Child Of Mine
Metallica - Fuel, The Day That Never Comes
Avenged Sevenfold - Almost Easy, Afterlife
Bullet For My Valentine - Scream, Aim, Fire; Waking The Demon
Circle Jerks
Black Flag
Slipknot
AC/DC - For Those About To Rock, It's A Long Way To The Top
P.O.D. - Youth Of The Nation
Grateful Dead - Bertha, Deal
Duran Duran - Wild Boys, Rio

Yes, the last one marks my guilty pleasure - cheesy 80s bands/songs

Often, Danger Zone and Sweet Home Alabama play back to back in my running mix shuffle. That's my favorite 10 minutes of running! When I'm thinking I'm just not in the mood, those come on and suddenly I can run forever! Must be a Southern girl thing!

Jackie

Bee Gees- Jive Talkin

:lmao: So glad I'm not the only one! I have quite an eclectic mix on my mp3, but some other of my go-to's to get me over the hump are:

Black Eyed Peas - I gotta feeling & Boom Boom Pow
Shinedown - If you only knew
Green Day - 21 Guns
Daft Punk - Da Funk
Prince - Let's go Crazy
Christina Aguilera - Candyman
Rhianna - Pon de Replay
Darude - Sandstorm

and my #1 "go to"
Tina Turner - The Best

I love this question!!!

My running music is very different from my usual listening fare. I like more of a hard beat when I run, so my mix has lots of Blink-182 and angst type stuff. Like many here 80's music is always good too. Scattered in there are a few Indigo Girls songs which DH mocks me heavily for having in the hard rocking mix.

My guilty pleasure is Hamster Dance-- just makes me wanna run.

Other favorites:

Pressure- Billy Joel
Skullcrusher Mountain- Jonathan Coulton
Zombie Jamboree- Rockapella
Big Bang Theory Theme- Bare Naked Ladies
1985- Bowling For Soup
Digga Tunnah Dance- Lebo M (from Lion King 1 1/2)
I Wanna Be Sedated- The Ramones
Splendid Isolation- Warren Zevon
Rainbow Connection- Me Too and the Gimmie Gimmies

songs that get me moving! (all are on iTunes)

Duran Duran~A View to a Kill
New Order~Bizarre Love Triangle
The Moody Blues~Your Wildest Dreams
Starship~We Built this City
Fine Young Cannibals~She Drives Me Crazy
Lenny Kravitz~Lady
Owl City~Fireflies
Matthew Wilder~Break My Stride
Rascal Flatts~Life is a Highway
Cee-Lo & Jack Black~Kung Fu Fighting
Alvin & the Chipmunks~Witch Doctor (Pop version from the 2007 movie)
Alvin & the Chipmunks~Follow Me Now (also from 2007 movie)
Celine Dion~I'm Alive (from Stuart Little 2 movie)
Mandy Moore~Top of the World (Stuart Little 2 movie)
Chantal Kreviazuk~Another Small Adventure (Stuart Little 2 movie)

You know, I don't think you and I have ever really talked about our musical tastes before! :confused3 Except for Disney and Christmas music. ;) I LOVE "We Built This City"!!! I haven't thought of that song for a long time. :goodvibes

I'm currently on week 3 of C25K and using the podcasts and I can't wait to take everyone's great choices and make some fun playlists for myself to run to.

My current favorites are Tim McGraw's "Live Like You Were Dying" and Coldplay's "Viva la Vida"

I love Coldplay. :thumbsup2 And that's really more the speed of music I listen to. But, I think I'm going to need peppier stuff to get me through my runs. I was recently listening to some Gwen Stafani that a friend sent me and it really did give me more energy listening to that kind of music. Two songs in particular that were fun to move to:

"Hollaback" and "Wind It Up" :rolleyes1

I have some Stefani, Black Eyed Peas, and other fast songs on my IPOD, too. Viva la Vida makes me want to run for some reason, and Live Like You Were Dying makes me grateful that I can run!

You and I have eerily similar tastes in running music :thumbsup2

I have 80s, disco, Black Eyed Peas, Three Doors Down, Marc Cohn, Marc Broussard, Katy Perry...bunch of oddly random stuff. I need to download Tick Tock next. Probably my strangest running song is Sarajevo by Trans Siberian Orchestra. Nothing like a little Christmas power rock in July

Three Doors Down is one of my favorite bands. And one of my all-time favorite songs is "True Companion" by Marc Cohn. :thumbsup2 He really only seems to be known for the song "Walking in Memphis" but he has some great stuff.

Well, I blame 20 years of figure skating for my classical running mix. That's work out music for me! Fanfare for the Common Man, Ode to Joy and Carmen are on heavy rotation, as is Misserlou (Pulp Fiction theme - my favorite short program, ever).

I also randomly love Black Eye Peas, which is not something I would listen to unless I was running. I'm more of a grunge or punk girl in real life.
