VWL Magic Kingdom bus now only goes to TTC?

EDITED TO ADD: I forgot to add the word bus to my thread title. Anyone know how to fix that?

Reading my Vacation Magic this morning and I see a notice that the busses from Wilderness Lodge now only go to the TTC and not directly to the park. Why bother?

It just adds another 15-20 minutes to your journey as you take the monorail or ferry across. A bus service for .4 a mile seems pointless to me.

I'm currently at the VWL and the buses definitely go to Magic Kingdom. I would be on one right now if my *grumble* *grumble* husband could get moving!! :)

The bus directly to MK is a relatively new thing, and I think it is somewhat seasonal. I think it only started last year...before that the boat was the only option. I agree that I would not take a bus to TTC. Then again, we chose the boat every time when both were running to MK.

well it is fun to ride the monrail to Epcot.... I know the bus is faster - but the monrail is funnier.

someone does not read the transportation board. the BUS drivers (there are couple on that board) reported it a while back.

until they say otherwise - I am still saying it.

sorry but sometimes the vacation magic is just wrong. you know like asking the front desk when the earliest bus to Epcot is - what you wanna bet they will say 9:00 am. When the buses start running as early as 8:00 am(sometimes 7:30) (okay the mk is earlier)

You got me. I only read the transportation board sporadically. Dummy me, I assumed all the Disney resort busses that had Magic Kingdom on their marquee actually went to the MK bus drop off area. One of the benefits of staying onsite versus my Marriott timeshare.

Since I've seen several WL boats that were the old non-accessible kind for wheelchairs at the MK docks, I'm naturally suspicious how my travel to that park would be by boat. The bus is a fallback for me since I know all accept wheelchairs. Learning that the busses would just be going to the TTC seemed like a major downgrade to me. Now I suppose I'll just have to hope they run the accessible ferries frequently, or more frequently than I've seen at the MK docks.

We have found taking the bus to MK was more convenient when staying in the Villas at Wilderness Lodge (and especially coming back from MK to WL) because of where the bus stop is located. The boat is nice but when you're tired (or your kids are complaining that their feet are crumbling) then the fewer steps from the bus vs the dock are a blessing :)

WebmasterCricket has fixed your title already but in case you need to do this in the future, here's how you edit the title of a post: Click on the "edit" button to edit your post. Then click on "go advanced" and you will be able to edit the title on that screen.

Brogan, this Fall while the bus stops at the MK were under construction, the old WL>TTC bus route was resurrected. I thought construction ended in December though and the WL>MK bus was running again.

didn't mean to offend.

when it goes go to TTC it says that across the bus not MK. - however this bus use to go to TTC then to the Mk then FW then back to WL. Not sure what the route was when they changed it directly to the MK.

I have asked on the transportation the current routes. Hey I really want to know going to be there myself in a few days!!!

when you check in - ask about your transportation options. they did have a bus that use to transport wheelchairs to the parks when the water was low.

of course since then disney has increased it water supply - lots of lakes - where before there was none.

Pat, the old bus route did not go directly to the MK at all. Boat was the only direct means of access for both FW and WL. THe WL to MK bus was added two years ago as I recall. I miss the old route as it was a handy way to get back and forth from the Polynesian to the Hoop or even Artist Point.

I haven't heard of any new lakes.:confused3 However, a few years back there was a severe drought that affected the water table and hence the bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon. New docks were built that address changing water levels and I think the drought ended as well.

I believe this to be correct as well. They were running the buses to the TTC instead of the MK during construction. Before our trip in Feb the bus route was changed back to the MK. We took the bus a few times due to the convient location to the villas, direction of the boat route, cold weather and 10 year old that doesn't like boats.

I studied the boat routes before we left. There are two routes.

WL->MK->FW->WL: This is on the larger type of boat. (can you drive onto these Brogan?) This route reverse mid-afternoon to be WL->FW->MK->WL. So if you want to go to MK in the evening the bus may be better.

WL->CR->FW->WL and WL->FW->CR ->WL: There are two smaller boats that run in opposite directions. These boats have to be stepped into.

Thanks for the info lisareniff. I guess you really do deserve your kudos thread today. :)

If the boats are of the Epcot Friendship style then yes. They are fully accessible. The disheartening thing for me is that I just never see them at the MK dock. I did see a separate dockside marked with a wheelchair symbol at WL and browbeat my Guide into finding out whether an accessible boat existed. But I've yet to actually see the things in use at MK.

Granted, I have usually driven my van to the TTC and ridden either the monorail or the ferry (the ferry is much better for space... it can be murder backing down a ramp or turning inside a monorail car). But when I've used the onsite busses I enjoyed the MK drop off area the best. Every other park the handicap parking is just as close but only at MK does taking the bus make more sense.

The larger boats that Lisa spoke of are trickier than Friendship boats. There is a fairly tight turn. But our daughter has been able to use her power chair as well as rented ones on it.

Thanks for the compliment, but wrong Lisa! There are actually quite a few of us Lisa's here on the DISboards to make life interesting! LisaS does a great job coveying some complicated DVC information. (I'm not as talented with the written word)

if it helps mother needs a wheelchair and we get one of the manual ones - never had a problem pushing her on the bigger boat.

but I definitely can see your concerns - she didn't have to do anything - and sometimes even the CM would push her on and off.
