VWL Groupies & Lovers Thread (Special Collectors Edition 2.5) updated 2 February 2025

I just read this on FB -

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, the Copper Creek Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and the Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa will temporarily close beginning at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9.

Does that mean they are actually making guests leave??
How about the bungalows?

Yeah I think they make them move for at least a couple nights.
Yes, we were in the campground during Charlie. They evacuated us all over to Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter. I heard of a few guests who got moved to the Contemporary... but the catch is where ever they move you to, you pay rack rate for that room. I could have fought for my discount but we'd been though so much with three kids, no car and the move in which they kept giving us bad room keys that I just had no energy left to fight. Tried to when I got home, but it was all a done deal in Disney's eyes by then.

That trip sealed the deal on buying DVC for me as I wanted the ability to stay dry as I walked to the lobby even if it were storming out.

Someone posted elsewhere that they’re in a CCV Cabin now and are being moved to a 2BR at CCV on Wednesday morning.

Makes sense, what I didn't tell you all about our charlie incident at the FW cabin was I accidentally left my son's and my own meds back in the cabin next to the kitchen sink. I went back over there after the storm passed and they sent a team of 3 guys with a chainsaw on foot down to the loop we were on to retrieve his meds for me. It took them 2 hours before they returned.

All it takes is one tree to ruin your day.

Praying for Florida…..my sister evacuated from her home in Sarasota, and they are staying with friends on “higher ground”. We were there for Debby in August, and with Helene and Milton they have been slammed. Horrible season! JImmy, apologies were not necessary 🙏🏼

With all the tragedy and turmoil over the last couple weeks, I'm of the mindset that today being Friday is a good time to step back, reevaluate and start anew. I haven't been directly effected by either storm(tree fell in yard, chainsawed, all is good), so I have nothing in that department to complain at all. As many of you I'm sure are doing, praying, sending donations, helping out where you can for the good folks of the NC-VA-TN mountains and those affected in FL, we too are doing what we can. But with all that being said, its time to start anew

So, HAPPY FRIDAY-HAPPY WEEKEND FOLKS!!!!IMG_1529.jpeg

Great pic! In my own way, I've done the same thing in terms of moving ahead while still realizing that the recovery for many is going to take time in parts of a few states.

I'm huge into to community theater, and last night we opened THE ODD COUPLE. We had some discussion about whether to postpone or cancel the shows altogether, but we decided to continue. Most importantly, given that it's a broad comedy with lots of laughter involved, we felt the show could be a boon to spirits. Sure enough, after the performance last night, one woman came up to me and said she almost hadn't come: tired, a little down in her soul, and she had to come a detoured route due to a road closure associated with Helene. Her words were, "I'm so glad I came! I laughed and laughed for two hours, and during that time I felt the heaviness in my soul lift. Thank you for giving back to the community in this way." Those positive things are what we need to focus upon. ;)

Just for grins...(photos were done in vignette mode for posting on FB)

Sleepy...nice pix! :thumbsup2

Here I thought you might be playing the role of Felix. I think the decision to go forward with the performance was the right one. And I'm so glad that lady came up to you afterwards and shared her thoughts and feelings.

There was a post on FB from someone who was upset that any theater or performance group would continue with shows given what happened in the area, and I get it, especially since this person lives much closer to some of the harder hit areas. There is another troupe who are staging a show next weekend, and they're also going ahead with their plans. And while I do get their angst (I happen to know this person, and she was displaced from her home for an extended amount of time), I firmly believe in the uplifting nature of artistic work whether it be music, sculpture, painting, or theater. We made the right decision. Not only have we had an outpouring of support, but we also opened up Thursday night to free admittance, and for all our performances, we're offering two free tickets to any first responder. The other show opening next weekend is giving a large portion of the money they bring in to the relief efforts in their area.

As for Felix, in truth, I secretly wanted that role. pirate: However, the director felt I'd be a better Oscar. Gotta say, it's been a gem of a role. We close with a matinee show this afternoon, and I jump right back into another show in a nearby community production. ;)

Peace to all on this fine Sunday. . .

I can see you playing Felix as you have refinement about you
But I also know the funny side of you and could see you pulling off Oscar very well

I think it’s a great thing you are doing for the community!!

Thanks! Had a big crowd for our matinee finale yesterday, and we had several other people tell us they were glad we brought some laughter to them after the past few weeks. Makes it all worthwhile!

I’m sorry I haven’t checked in to see how everyone was after those 2 storms. I had some health issues which now seem to be resolving. Very glad to read that you are all ok, but my heart aches for those who were hit hardest. And without flood insurance! Before and after Milton I was in contact with friends of ours who live in Tampa. They had 7 family members and 3 dogs who evacuated to their house because they were a little more inland. Luckily, they did not sustain as much damage as there might have been if it had made landfall just a little further north. So scary. We had some scary hurricanes when we lived on Long Island, but we never had flooding like these storms.

Sleepy: my daughter played one of the Pigeon sisters when she was in HS! They had 2 casts. One was the traditional male roommates and Pigeon sisters, and the other was with 2 female roommates and Pigeon brothers. It was kind of cool. I think your troupe did a great service to the community.

In the midst of planning our November trip. I am hoping there won’t be a hurricane, but there’s nothing I can do about that. I got everything I wanted when I made our ADRs, except I had to take a late lunch at Yak n Yeti as there were no dinner times available. I will just check again when it gets closer. Because this trip is all about our 5 year-old granddaughter, I really do have to do a lot of planning. But I am beginning to get tired of doing something that I used to find so enjoyable. Anyhow, sorry to be complaining when I know how lucky we are even to be able to go there, although we won’t be going back for a long time. Too much money!
Even if the tree isn’t up, I know that walking into the lobby and seeing my DGD’s face when we go to the parks and character meals, will end up being magical.

Wow. Things must be busy for our Groupies or slow for us re: trips, as this page now encompasses (including my post) 18 days! That may be the longest drought ever! Hopefully, everyone is hanging in there as we approach the holiday season which, for me, kicks off with the run up to Thanksgiving. No offense to Halloween, which I've loved in the past, but without any small kids in my family and not living in a neighborhood, we're not inclined to put up any scary decorations nor prepare for trick-or-treaters.

In Disney news, though information is slight thus far, it does seem as if Reflections may get reborn. If so, or even if not, I do wish/hope the old walking path to FW reopens to include any such resort as may be in the plans. Of all the things that happened years ago to make the Wilderness Lodge less wilderness-y, losing that path has been on of the things that stung the most.

Have a great weekend, Groupies! And, as always, if you want to be included on Page 1 for upcoming trips or cruises, just send me a note! pirate:
