VWL Dumpster View

A woman I met last night told me about another Disney site called Intercot. I looked tonight and they had a link that posted an actual photo of the view of the infamous "dumpster view" room. They list the room as #4562, and boy that is some view! I was imagining a small trash dumpster -- this was a garbage truck by a huge dumpster and what looked like some kind of loading dock. Yikes! I would CRY if I got that room!

Does anyone know how many Villas have this view? Is it just one room that looks over this area? We are staying in a studio. Advice here seems to tell me to request a back-of-the-resort view near the elevators. If that request is granted I think I will be safe. Yes?

Thanks. I know I am obsessing but who wants to spend all those points and watch the trash man all week?

Only a few rooms have that view...and they are the farthest from the elevators.

If you requested near the elevators, you shouldn't have to worry about it. Back or front of the resort wouldn't matter....either would work in avoiding that view if you are near the elevators.

We're going for 9 nights this summer and I would also prefer to avoid that view. But it wouldn't be the end of the world if I got it. Got a few more DVC trips coming up in the next few decades so I figure we are bound to get some "less than perfect" room views now and again.

Good luck!

Thanks for the link.
OMG!!! I woudl be so sad! :( :( :(
Why don't they have that view at less points?!?
Not very relaxing to sit on the balcony there and watch the TRASH?!? LOL
I imagine that area could be quite loud, too.

Lenshanem, I am with you -- that room should be "half-price points!" I guess they only use it when the resort is full, but the resort is OFTEN full! If I got that room I would remember that everyone here would say "Don't let it ruin your trip" and then I would probably start crying anyway! The worst part would be the noise every morning. I bet they are busy by 6am.

When I check in, I will look at the map and make sure I am nowhere NEAR that end of the building!

Actually, based on the photo, it's not nearly as bad as I was expecting from all the complaints! I was expecting a dumpster the size of a NYC garbage barge, RIGHT underneath the window.

Actually, it's not as bad as the picture makes it out to be. The picture makes it look like all you see is a garbage area. You will also see nice, wooded areas and grasslands. Don't get me wrong, I think they could diguise the dumpster somehow, but the photographer obviously aimed the camera at the dumpster area. They did not take an all encompasing shot of what you really see. On the lower floors, the dumpster is obscured by trees an shrubery.

I would ask for a room with a specific view. That way you would probably be eliminating the dumpster possibility. If Disney marketing were smart, they would charge extra points for a "Dumpster View" room! I'm sure there are people who would pony-up the extra points if they thought they were getting something special. :p

I understand every room cannot have a 'perfect view', but this would be unacceptable. I did not plunk down $$$$$ for a view of garbage. I'm a little shocked that DVC hasn't disguised the view.

Candlelady....don't get me wrong...I think they could have done a better job since this DVC resort was the third one built (on-site) and they should have been able to figure out how to disguise this area better.

I wouldn't be thrilled with that room, but unless the trash stunk, I'd probably grin and bear it.

Granny,

Re-reading my post, I sound like a *itch! Didn't mean to, and I'm sorry.
I'm not the type to badger the CM regarding room assignments and take whatever they give me unless I have a choice of rooms. This view, I honestly believe I would not accept. DVC is supposed to be deluxe accomodations - that's what we all paid for. Deluxe accomodations in my view, do not include dumpsters. Shame on DVC for passing this one off as acceptable.

Have a great day Granny:)

what type of room has this view (ie: studio, one bedroom, dedicated two-bedroom?)

I believe the room pictured in the link is a studio.

To tell the truth, I would be more upset with having to walk all the way down the hall. It's a long freakin' walk! And why are the halls always soooo cold???
Really, I would just be happy to be there:D

Looks to me that if you look out rather then down...it wouldn't be too bad....

Because then everybody would be screaming for that room to save points and would demand to know why DVC only made a couple of rooms available at the cheaper prices.

They could at least weld a big set of Mickey ears on it. :)

Hallways are very easy to keep cold so it doesn't cost much. Disney installed those motion t/stats in the rooms that default to 76F -a little warm'ish- when your out. My theory is that they freeze you in the hallway so when you walk into your room, the 76F will feel good.By the time you've warmed up,the now activated a/c will have your room cooled to where you like it.

As for the dumpster: Do you see dumpsters anywhere else in WDW ? Who on earth decided VWL needed to be unique ? There had to be somewhere else the dumpster could go.

Makes ya wonder though..... MS says they can never guarantee a room. Wonder what would happen if you requested it ? "Yes mam, exactly, that room at the end with the big stickin dumpster for a view. That's the only one I want. Should I also fax a request before I arrive. Yes I know.... but anything you could do to help would be great, thank you". Bet that would freak 'em out.

We too had the dumpster view. Our room was 3560.

From what we saw the rooms ending in _560, and _562 were the prime dumpster views, all appeared to be studios.

The room next to us (3558) appeared to be a larger unit, not sure what size though, but rooms ending in _558 probably have a little bit of the view too.
