I don't understand why the dumpster view hasn't been cnahed to standard liek at BWV. Shoudln't it be less points? Are any of the stnadrd views at BWV comparable to a dumpster view?!?

I thought I read once upon a time BWV didn't ahev the different views. What promted DVC to make thsi chnage?

The same thing that forced this latest change, whining, crying, screaming babies at check in.

Because the total number of points at a resort must remain constant once the resort has been sold out. If the "dumpster" view were changed to a "standard" view then the rest of the rooms would have to have an increase in points. It would also be ridiculous for the entire resort to have one point schedule and a handful of rooms to be on a different one.

The dumpster view is blown way, way, way out of proportion.
If you have a lower floor, the dumpster is mostly obscured by foliage and shrubery. If you are on higher floor, you don't see it unless you look down at it. The majority of your view is of grasslands, and woods. No, the picture does not show it that way, but that is because the camera is POINTED AT THE DUMPSTER !

That being said, this would certainly not be my first choice of views, but it is not as bad as many make it out to be.

I think it would begin to get too complicated if they kept creating these "new room types". It would not allow for the most efficient use of all 365 room nights and in the long run, would end up costing more in dues with unrented time. I think this room category would have such a small percentage of room. If they made an allowance for dumpster view, they would than be asked to make one for no balcony. At VWL that could go into this new standard category but at BWV they would than need a substandard category for those non-balcony rooms. This could go on and on.

Can soemoen explain to me why the standard view at bWV became Stnadrd? What are these views of that even peopel complained?
Understand the VWL, though. Wouldn't amke sense to raise the points for a regular room to compensate for the handful of rooms that have thsi view.
I just know I'll always request a non-dumpster view. LOL And hope for the best...

Someday, someone will request a dumpster view....I only hope they are assigned an external rather than an internal view :)

LOL! Can you imagine how many requests this room would get if it cost less points????!!! People would be clawing each other eyes out to get BCV for less points! That has been part of the issue with BWV standard views. I don't remember that the standard view was added. I think it was always there, because when we first purchased OKW, BWV was just coming in. I have the promotional materials here yet, and they have the standard view listed as fewer points even back then.

I think it happened because the views are so different. Most people had visions of that Boardwalk view when they bought. Then they get a view of the parking lot. So they made those views standard. I don't think any of the other DVC WDW resorts have such a big difference in views.

There is actually a dumpster view at BWV and it's in the preferred category. I know someone who checked in with the preferred view and ended up way at the end of the hall next to Jellyrolls and could see their dumpster. I think those rooms at the end of the hall facing the Swan/Dolphin above the DVC office are the least desirable of the preferred views.

Maistre Gracey....very well said! I'll second you on all points! :)

I'm sure that at some point, we'll be assigned the dumpster view. In fact, I told DW to be prepared for that view on this last trip we took a couple of months ago.

She said...."it doesn't matter, we'll be at WDW!".

Bless her heart! :)

Granny, thsi woudl be exactly what my hubby woudl say. Who cares if we ahve a dumpster view, we're at WDw,a ren't we? Unfortuanely, I on the other hnad would be diappointed. sorry guys, just my personality!

Shan...in no way was I taking shots at people who put a lot of value on a good view! Who am I to tell someone else what should be important to them!

Just sharing my wife's response as I tried to prep her for any disappointment. Now I have to work on prepping her for BW Standard View! :p

there are much worst views at BWV than the standard view (my opinion) - but when you hate the main swimming pool - put it on your reservation that YOU DO NOT WANT the main swimming pool and each time that is what YOU GOT!!!! yes there are much worst views at BWV than the standard view (which is what I request now).

the dumpster view is not that bad (I have gotten in twice) - the studios rooms are little bigger - it is a dedicated not a lock out - so you got 2 closets.

now would I turn down this location again - yes I have - but then I got first floor - looking out on the entry way - this was also a bad view - because of the privacy issue - but I kind enjoyed watching the other guest come and go.

this was a great location to the buses and the lobby - very close. I probably need to change my request to this room again = mother would love close to everything and you get to people watch too.

granny, I didn't think you were taking shots! LOL
I know I'm just more uptight about things liek thsi and my hubby on the other hnad could care less! :D

The dumpster view I could live with (yes, we have gotten it in the past). Now, there's one lock-off room at the lodge (4533 I believe) when used as a studio it has no balcony. My parents got that on a trip last year. I would not accept this room if we get it again. Our Member guidebook shows either a patio or a balcony with a studio. I'm sorry, but 4533 when used as a studio at the VWL is not up to what I expect from DVC and I would ask to be moved somewhere else if this happens again. We heard it was a construction error.

Yes if they were going to add another catagory, my preference would be a stronger guarantee of smoking vs non-smoking, than differentiating based on a comparison of view. Glad to here the dumpster view isn't that bad, although not very DVC like. Seems like it could be covered appropriately.

It is interesting that as a rule, you cannot get a standard view at BWV without the 11 month window. Must not be that bad in terms of views. Given that, points are probably too low for standard views.

We always stay in a standard view room at the BWV and I call day by day at the 11 month window to be sure of getting it. We've never had what I would consider a bad standard view room. The main attraction is the lower point schedule, of course, but IMHO, the view outside your windows/balconies isn't bad at all.

You do see the entrance of the hotel and the driveway that leads up to it, but there is also quite a bit of very nice landscaping between the rooms and the road. You can see the BWI, the convention center area and the rooftops of the buildings in EPCOT's French Pavillion, as well as portions of the parking lot. You can see the bus stop and some standard rooms even overlook a small pond.

One huge advantage to some (but not all) of these rooms is that you can see the higher level fireworks from EPCOT's Illuminations from you balcony. The upper level rooms across from the bus stop are the best locations for that, but at least a partial view of the fireworks is possible from many of the other rooms as well. Note that the standard rooms closest to the elevators do not have a fireworks view - the BWI & convention center pretty much block the view from those rooms.

I have never seen any dumpsters from the standard view rooms - if there are any, they must be well camoflaged. :teeth:

We've also been treated to a view of various species of ducks/birds feeding on the lawn outside our room in the early mornings.

While I like the idea of getting a "guaranteed" Boardwalk view (if available when I call), I doubt if I will be able to give up my lower point standard view room.

In summary, no way do I consider BWV standard view to be undesirable! YMMV!

Just a note, the room is 4533. Most of the CM's don't seem to know about the no balcony. When I checked in, my room wasn't ready. I asked if I had been preassigned as I did not want the "no balcony room" (I didn't have the number handy, I dhad to pull it out of my backpack). I was told there is no such room. Once I provided the number she checked with two other CM's than said "Your right, you learn something new everyday".

It is obviously something they downplay

Just out of curiousity, are there any studios at the BWV that don't have a patio or balcony? Where you can't open a door or patio slider to go sit outside or at least stand outside? Room 4533 at the VWL (when used as a studio as it is a lockoff) you have no access to outside from that room. When we're on vacation, I like sitting on a patio or balcony in the early morning before the day begins. The window doesn't even open as there is nothing to step out on.

The dumpster view at the VWL does actually have some nice woods to look at. We had the last studio (it was dedicated) on the 3rd floor that faces the bus stop side. This dedicated studio seemed bigger than the others to us. We didn't ask to be switched because we had our two daughters with us and we needed a little extra room for all their shoes (chuckle). This room wouldn't be my first choice, but it was peaceful (never heard any noise) and it did seem bigger than other studios we've stayed in.
