VWL Availability in Early December

My family would love to spend either the first or second week of December 2008 at VWL. Our home resort is SSR, does anyone have any idea how hard it is to get in to VWL at the 7 month mark for a December trip? I fear that it may be hard, since Christmas time in a wilderness lodge environment sounds heavenly.

Does anyone have any wisdom to share?

I tried last year at the 7 month mark for any room type at VWL and had no luck. I also own at SSR and was hoping to try something different. Anyhow, we did waitlist it but it never came through and we ended up with OKW again. Wasn't so bad since I really enjoy that resort but it would have been nice to try a new place during the holidays. BTW, our dates were 12/3-12/10

We are hoping to return around the same time in 2008 but at Boardwalk this time. So, I'm crossing my fingers.

That pretty much sums it up!

I'd go ahead and book at SSR at the 11 month window as a back up, and give VWL a whirl at the 7 month window. But many DVC reservations for early December are challenging at the 7 month window, so don't be disappointed if it doesn't work out for you.

If you can't get a reservation at VWL, I'd still encourage you to visit the resort as well as the other WDW resorts. Each has its own feeling for the holidays, but I'll admit I"m pretty partial to VWL.

Well, that's what I was afraid of! We will book SSR at the 11 month mark, because we really want to be at WDW that week, and if we end up having to stay at SSR, that's fine too. I'll give it a try at 7 months and hope the Disney Gods are smiling upon us!

We tried booking a two night stay for this dec. at the 7 month window with no luck, but got lucky that our waitlist came through about a week before. Granted its probably easier to get a studio for 2 nights than any it is anything else for a week, but you never know when you'll get lucky...

Deej696's idea might be a good solution. Book the entire stay at your home resort at the 11 months. Then waitlist but in two 'chunks'...say 3 day waitlist and a 4 day waitlist to make up the week. You may have a better chance of the smaller amount coming in. This, of course, assumes that you would be ok with switching resorts mid stay. We don't mind but some people do. From what I hear, to get a chance to stay at VWL in December would be worth it !

We tried in April to get a Nov 30/Dec 1 stay at VWL in a studio and had no luck. We could've w'listed but we knew that VWL is popular at Christmas so we didn't want to take our chances.

A BW view at BWV was easier to book than VWL!!!

We're hoping to get right in at the 11 mo mark this year though. DH told me on this trip: "Don't think we're going to make this an annual thing..." Well, guess what???
