For those of you who have had Vonage phone lines for a while, I was just able to get my monthly service charge reduced to $9.99 for life for unlimited US and Canada calls. My coworker told me about this and several folks at work also did this and we all got this deal.

Call their customer service # and at the call prompter say "Cancel Service" and you'll be routed to the proper agent who can give you this deal. Tell them you are looking for an alternative phone service now because you don't want to pay so much anymore. Ask them if there is any way to reduce your phone service bill with them. Right off the bat the agent offered me $9.99 for life.

This isn't a limited time $9.99 for so many months type of deal... it's $9.99 forever (so they claim, anyway). Also, one of my co-workers was told that they are only doing this special offer until the end of the year, so call before Dec 31st! OH.. and this is only for existing customers.

Happy Savings, DISers!

We just signed up for vonage and got the 9.99 deal. However im not very happy with the quality of service. Everyone I talk to says that I breakup and it's hard to understand what I'm saying. Does anyone else have this problem? I will be calling after the holidays to see if they can do anything for me.

We switched to Ooma from Vonage. I have paid only $11 per year for the past two years. Less than $1/month. It is going up to about $38 per year, but that is still only $3.16/month.

I've had Vonage for over 7 years for my home office line and in the past I used to have issues with it similar to yours. I ended up contacting Vonage and they walked me through some steps to tweak the settings and the line cleared up. I've also moved several times with Vonage and I've found that if your ISP's (internet service provider) service is slow or inconsistent with speeds that can lead to bad phone connectivity with Vonage as well. I've worked with my ISPs in the past too and they've provided newer cable modems for me.

I have Vonage and never have any issues with call quality. My friend just up the street has Vonage and I've noticed often has echo in her calls or static.
I have no idea why the difference. We use the largest cable internet provider in the area, and they use a smaller start up company, but I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
I wonder if this vonage deal would work in Canada? I pay 20 a month now.

I called to cancel a Credit Card that has an annual fee and they put me through to a supervisor who said he could remove the fee.

I asked if it was just for this next year and he said no, it's forever!

Saved me $75.

Nice to hear you like the Ooma service. I've been looking into it for both our homes as it looks like it could save us big $. Cell phone coverage at both places is just a little too spotty to rely on that. From what I've read you pay just the tax's after you purchase the modem, right?

Yes, that is correct. It is called a hub and it connects to your modem.

It runs about $179 at Costco's retail store and I would STRONGLY encourage you to buy it there.

Here is why. My hub died after almost 2 years. I had purchased it from Costco. I called Ooma and they tried in vein to get it to work again and finally told me it was indeed dead.

I took it back to Costco and they replaced it for free! I love Costco.

This is how I looked at it. Vonage was $33/month including taxes. Ooma was $199 and only $11/year (at that time, it is going up for me in 2012 to $39/year or something close to that.) So, based on the $199 upfront cost, I would break even in about 6 months vs. keeping Vonage. I figured even if it lasted only a year, I was still ahead.

I am going into year 3 after Christmas and it is still working for me.

It isn't always perfect. I have had a few dropped calls and I really don't know if that was Ooma or my internet provider's fault.

Thanks for posting this, I was looking into other options but I really like vonage so I called today and they gave me the 9.99 forever deal. :cool1: I was so happy this will really help the budget and I get to keep the same service.

Thanks again.

Thanks for posting this! We've had Vonage for 3 years, but lately have been considering cancelling it and just using cell phones, but at $10/month, we'll keep it!

Thanks so much for taking the time to post this! Worked for me too! The rep did indeed say the offer was only good until the 31st.

Thank you so much for posting this! :thumbsup2 I just called and received the deal. :cool1: The employee told me that today was the last day.

The call quality isn't related to Vonage. It is related to you cable/Internet service. If the quality is poor it is due to issue with your Internet service.
