I went ahead and signed up to volunteer at the Half Marathon at Water Stop #6. In the MK area, I believe. It's a relatively short, sane hours shift (4-9:30).

For those who may sign up for a race, keep in mind that they may move you around. Last time I volunteered to be at MK toll plaza and I was moved to be an on-course race marshal.

I signed up for Water Station #13 because it seemed like an easy enough commute from within Disney property.

I am signing up, but have no idea where the stops are - is there a map? Or anyway to know? Thanks!

When you volunteer, you are given directions to meet at a central check-in point. Example: for the stop I did in MK, I had to check-in at Pluto parking lot staging area. Fore inside Epcot, Check-in was at WWoS. You don't go directly to your spot.

I am signing up, but have no idea where the stops are - is there a map? Or anyway to know? Thanks!

You should be able to get some idea by looking at the course maps. The water stop #'s are mile markers. Course monitors---who knows! Could be anywhere within the general location given. Here's a link to the course maps.

Now that I'm signed up, I have a few questions about race-day volunteering logistics:

Do shifts typically end on time, or can I expect to be held later due to cleanup duties?
When our shift is over, will we receive transportation back to a central area?
Can volunteers keep bags on them, or do we have to use bag check?
Will our gifts be given to us at the end of our shifts, or will they be mailed?

Thanks for the help. :teacher:

Do shifts typically end on time, or can I expect to be held later due to cleanup duties? The ones that I have done (2) have ended on time or a little early

I am assuming for the following you are talking about being a race volunteer, not the expo

When our shift is over, will we receive transportation back to a central area? You will get bused back to whatever your specific staging area was

Can volunteers keep bags on them, or do we have to use bag check? There is no bag check for volunteers. I just took my car keys, I think. There really isn't anywhere to stash anything, since you may be anywhere on the course and busy. Don't bring anything you don't want to lose!

Will our gifts be given to us at the end of our shifts, or will they be mailed? When you check in, you will receive your box snack and windbreaker. When your shift is done and you check out, you will receive your 1 day park ticket

"you will receive your box snack and windbreaker. When your shift is done and you check out, you will receive your 1 day park ticket"

Is it a regular ticket and can the value be used to upgrade to other tickets?

Do you know if it is transferrable?

Thanks,
Sidney

The ticket does not have your name on it--so you can give it to whomever you like. (One year, someone I know that had a Florida AP gave me her one day ticket-sweet!) It is one of the special tickets that are only good for a specific time period. As I recall, it was good for 1 year. Not sure about upgrade possibilities. You could email RunDisney to ask.

I must be missing something...It says when you earn 16 points you get a park ticket. So how many points are earned for each volunteer spot. I'm thinking I could come a day early...the park ticket would offset my additional night at the hotel. To me it's a win/win situation..or breakeven.

Generally, you get one point for each hour in your shift. So people who work the marathon expo, for example, get points. When you earn your 16 points, they send you a ticket within 30 days.

If, however, you volunteer for the half or full marathon, you get a park ticket at the end of your shift. It's really a good incentive, since the shifts are generally 4-6 hours.

I'm confused. The dates say 2012 and talk about the relay, which was 2012. B

The OP (me!) posted this about the 2012 race back in 2011! Someone just happened to resurrect the thread.

The link that was just posted by the PP is for 2013.

I didn't post anything for 2013 because I am doing Goofy and won't be volunteering.
