Okay -- it always disappears for me. From ChatGPT, restarting should remove it.

That volume bar showing in the middle of your desktop usually appears when the volume is being adjusted and should disappear after a couple of seconds. If it stays stuck on the screen, here are some ways to fix it:

1. Wait or Press Keys

  • Normally, the overlay should fade after a few seconds.
  • Try pressing the volume up/down or mute keys again to reset it.

2. Restart Explorer

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  2. Find Windows Explorer in the list.
  3. Right-click and select Restart.
    This often clears stuck overlays.

3. Check Background Apps

Some apps (like audio drivers, screen overlays, or third-party tools such as HP, Dell, or Realtek utilities) can cause the volume bar to stay visible.

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc → Startup tab.
  • Disable anything related to audio overlays, then restart your PC.

4. Update or Reinstall Audio Drivers

  1. Press Win + X → Device Manager.
  2. Expand Sound, video, and game controllers.
  3. Right-click your audio device → Update driver.
If that doesn’t help, uninstall and restart your PC—Windows will reinstall it.

5. Disable “On-Screen Display” from OEM Software

If you’re using an HP, Dell, Lenovo, etc., they sometimes include a utility that shows this bar. Look in your system tray or Start Menu for:

  • HP OSD / HP Hotkey Support
  • Dell QuickSet
  • Lenovo On-Screen Display
Try disabling it if you don’t want the bar to appear.
