I wanted to know if anyone has experience with this car, my dh and i are considering buying a used one. It has 48k miles on it, and its a 92. The tires are new. The asking price is 1500 and i don't think we could negocate down.

I've looked up the kelly blue book and stuff, but i'm more looking for personal experience. Is this a good value/price?

I had a '91 Golf and had some problems with it. Things that should not have gone wrong with a brand new car with low mileage on it. I heard about other problems with VW's in general around that time.

That's really low mileage for a '92.

Run!!! I have a '99 Beetle and it's been a nightmare. Even though the car you are looking at is older, VWs haven't changed. It still has the same 2.0L engine as the newer ones cause they've been using them forever. Some of the problems I've had (off the top of my head):

Driver's Side Airbag - replaced
Catalytic Converter - replaced
Mass Airflow Sensor - replaced (twice)
Fuel Pump - replaced
Driver and Passenger Side Window Mechanics - being replaced tomorrow
Alarm System & Power Locks - buggy
Both Window Switches - faulty
Shift Lock Sensor - replaced (twice)
VW 6-Disc CD Changer - replaced (twice)
Headlight and other misc. lighting - always going out
Oxygen Sensor - replaced (twice)

Just some of the things I've had repaired... I couldn't recommend more highly against ANY VW. My car has NEVER been in an accident BTW. I maintain it like crazy, but it doesn't make a difference when the parts are cheaply made...
