I am a little concerned that we might have issues getting to Florida on Wednesday April 28th. We are flying from Buffalo to MCO. I just read that the volcantic ash has spread to Newfoundland and they are cancelling flights today. The ash is predicted to spread along the entire eastern seaboard. Anyone else have plans in the next 2 weeks to fly? I am a little stressed out!

If I were you and was worried about this, I would plan an alternate way of transportation, lol! I would even drive if I had too! I wouldn't want to miss out on that Disney vacation! I am keeping my fingers cross for you and your family!:thumbsup2

My dh flying to New Mexico tomorrow for business. He keeps hoping the ash gets here and prevents him from going. I told him to 'shut up'....there are a ton of people who have vacations planned and it would be awful if they couldn't get to their destinations!!!

I think you're a bit too stressed out. 9 days is a long time away. If you want to minimize your risk, free up your Tuesday and have it open to drive if need be.

You shouldn't have any problems...the ash is not expected to reach the US at any time.

I hope you are stressed out for no reason because we leave on May 1st and I hadn't even considered this to be an issue. I am going to take a deep breath and take this as a sign that I am spending too much time on the Dis :rotfl:.

Ha... I have flights on Wednesday and Sunday and I am not concerned at all......

I tried to get more information but couldn't find anything. Where are you getting your info? I would like to check it out. I am not scheduled to fly to MCO until May 8.

NBC, HLN & CNN all stated this am the cloud is only supposed to drift to canada, not the US...

now, if the 2nd much bigger volcano - Karla - goes off (as it has done every other time in recorded history, the current one is located 8 miles form it) the cards r off the table:sad2:

semi interesting many stranded in airports r waiting to hear if their trip insurance will cover any of their OOP expense.

This is where I read about the ash affecting North America. I will have a back up plan. We will have to leave Monday and drive to Florida. I have yet to tell my grand gathering of this plan.;) I am going with or without them!:rolleyes1

It also says "While it was earlier reported that some airlines were being cautious amid meteorological data suggesting winds were blowing ash towards the province, an airport spokeswoman Marie Manning says it was fog that was limiting visibility Monday morning."

Generally prevailing winds are West to East over the US so even if the cloud descended into the US it would be blown offshore, much like the same prevailing winds are blowing the ash across Europe.

That said, I have 4 roundtrip flights from DCA in the next month so I will be watching closely. ;)
