VMK card codes question

I'm thinking about Stocking Stuffers for my kids and think they would like some VMK cards. A very special DIS member and his daughter sent a starter set to my son and of course, he wants the entire set now. LOL I was looking at them on eBay and found some that say the codes are unused. Do the codes ever expire, though? If i buy a gold Mickey ears card, will that code still work? My son would still be tickled with the card, but getting the gold ears would be the icing on the cake!
Thanks everyone!

It really depends on the code. Because some have expired, so im not the best one to answer this sorry

It can be confusing, can't it? :) To the best of my knowledge (and I hope someone will correct me if I am wrong) there were a large number of cards with expiration dates of Sept. 30, 2006. However, the codes from these cards can STILL be used to get prizes in-game (such as the gold ears) even now. So, in other words, despite the dates, they have not truly expired, because they are still usuable. Now, how much longer they will be is anyone's guess. Good luck! :goodvibes

if the code is expired i can trade you some gold ears if i still have them and other things

I have many vmk cards that all says, "Expires September 30, 2006" that all still work. The codes were extended. However, there is no promise of how long they will work.

actually I do not think any of the codes have expired even though they say they have by the expiration date on them.

But that said a word of caution: Codes are one time use so, even knowing that alot of our members have and do buy on ebay, there is no way to be sure the codes that say they are unused are...therefore you are takinga chance when buying them.

We have a VMK card traders thread and I am sure any of our card traders would be happy to help you complete your collection.

About the golden mickey ears, yes the cards still work (the park still has some if you buy a hat and have a full fit at the counter some how they find them on that bottom shelf on the left) anyways, at one point a few months ago the park got a bad batch of them that had codes that did not work, so that would be my only concern. The EBay person might be selling what he thinks to be a valid card and it might not work.

PS I throw all my cards away, i didn't realize anyone kept them so I will start holding on to them and just pm me if your KIDS need them.

You mean I get to throw myself on the floor and have a kicking and screaming tantrum? I am SO there!

FYI, I have mini tantrums when I go grocery shopping with my best friend. I hang off the side of her cart in the checkout line whining for candy. The sad thing is, she buys it for me just to shut me up! :rotfl:

I'm just a kid stuck in an adult's body! :teeth:

Thats right they will fight to the death that they don't have them any more, but now we all know the truth!

Sorry for the delay in getting back with all of you. All these holiday preparations just eat up my free time! LOL

A sincere thanks to all of you for your information. I'll check the trade board here. I just feel bad asking for them when I have nothing to offer in return, ya know? I'll probably go ahead and buy a few on eBay, too, just to try them out. If they work, fabulous, if not, at least he has the cards.

birdman, what are you looking for in trade for those gold ears? I'm such a newbie, I probably don't have anything you'd be willing to accept, but it never hurts to ask. ;)

Thanks again to everyone! Y'all are great! :thumbsup2

If they bill the auction as UNUSED codes, and the codes do not work, then you are entitled to a refund or correction of the issue. I have bought a great many cards on ebay in the past year, never, not once, has a code not worked. I have made, literally, about 300 VMK card purchases from about 50 different sellers without one single issue. and yes, I was one of the ones who had an issue with the animators desk. The SELLER corrected the issue, not Disney. So, in summary, you are NOT taking a chance when buying on ebay. There is only a SLIM CHANCE that you do not get what you paid for. And in that case, you have recourse to recover your money.

that may be the case but as a moderator I would not be doing my job if I did not point this out.

Maybe so Mal, but there is a big difference between what you said and reality. I know for a fact that at least 5 members of this board sell their cards on ebay. If I was them, I would be awful upset about that statement. Mainly because "pointing it out" or not, it is untrue. In the year that the cards have been on ebay, I have heard only ONE CASE where the codes did not work and the situation was not rectified by the seller. And in that case, the buyer filed an ebay/paypal complaint and got his/her money back anyway.

Some ebay info that might help anyone who is new to buying on ebay:

Fact: I bought some cards on ebay. I had one code that did not work. The seller took care of that immediately. In cases where I had the codes emailed to me before the cards were sent, the sellers fixed any typos immediately.

My Opinion: Be a wise shopper when you buy on ebay. I look for sellers with 99% to 100% positive feedback. Then I look at the actual feedback they have received from people who have bought items from them. I look for multiple buyers who say their items were as described, carefully packaged and shipped fast. A seller may have 100% feedback without ever having sold an item. That person is an unknown risk as a seller. That doesn't mean they will be a bad seller, it just means there is no data about them yet. The biggest issue I have seen with new sellers is they sometimes don't package the items as well as I would like.

I usually buy and sell pins on ebay but I use the same criteria when I buy other items like VMK cards, out of print books, etc..

I just have to add my two cents in here... As a frequent Ebay user, I don't really see how you take any more of a chance buying VMK cards with codes on Ebay than you do when you buy anything on Ebay. Either way, you're paying money for something based on the seller's description and the expected accuracy of that description. I have bought a few vmk-related items on Ebay and each time has been a perfect transaction - no problems and I got what I paid for. Just wanted to share my experiences.
