Visual Inspection

We were in our room at the Beach Club yesterday after returning from the park in the heat of the day and wife wasn’t feeling to well. Knock on the door and they wanted to come in and “make sure everything was working okay”. We explained that my wife was resting and requested they come back another time. Minutes later we received a phone call on the room phone then again an hour or so later on my cell. Whatever the reason it feels intrusive and creepy while on vacation, especially when they are insistent/pushy about it. We are checking into Vero tomorrow and I plan on requesting no visits of this nature.
Good luck with no visits in the future. I don't think that works. Sort of the opposite point of their policy. If all guests could just refuse it, why even have it. Now, you can say you don't agree with it, and believe me, I'm not claiming it's a worthwhile policy. But, it's their property, their rules, their policy. So, saying you plan to refuse their policy may not work. Just saying

We’ll see, I’ll make the request and post the feedback here.

We are still trying to sync up and we check out tomorrow.

Well when my wife was getting sick in the bathroom it just didn’t seem like the right time.
I understand but did you bother to ask if it mattered? A few times they have knocked and my wife as in the shower and I asked if it mattered they said no, came in literally 5 seconds walked to the end of my room turned around and left.

I don't disagree that it can be a nuisance especially if you're not feeling well but my experience is that the staff knows that it's a pain and they try to be as quick as possible. There just following policy and making it difficult just makes the process difficult. This is the world we live in so my advice is just to be nice to the people and let them do what they need to.

Did I bother to ask if it mattered? No. When I explained the situation they said they would return. I was courteous to them and they were also. My issue was the multiple calls after and feeling like I had the schedule something with them while on vacation, especially checking out two days later. I go on vacation to be free from this type of thing.

Sorry I didn’t invite them in while my wife as feeling ill for something that from my point of view is completely unnecessary. Thanks for the heartfelt advice and I will certainly go that route next time. From my point of view coming into an occupied room is intrusive. I have no issue with them visiting while I’m away, which they did while we were at the park today.

I pass no condescending judgement to anyone who feels the opposite and appreciate the same sentiment in return. Peace out.

When I've gone solo, I've never noticed any of the visual inspections. However, last year, when DH and I went together, it was very different. One hot day we returned to our villa at OKW just as housekeeping was arriving. We told her we didn't need anything, and she left. We just wanted a cold drink and a rest. Well, about 2 minutes later they (housekeeping/security) called and wanted to know why we declined service and wouldn't let housekeeping in. He said that they must do a visual inspection, so they were on their way. He made us feel like we were hiding something. A few minutes later, they showed up, walked all around the kitchen and living room and left without a word. Not a pleasant feeling. Wish he'd said "Have a nice day" or "Sorry to bother you" or something.

I had a horrible experience this last trip. My family had gone to the pool and I was in the bath with the water running. Dude must have knocked, heard the bath running and still decided to come in. I screamed when I heard him but he didn’t leave until he did his inspection. I felt so uncomfortable.

It is a pain, but they have been doing this for years now. They walk in, glance around, and leave. We have even had it where we had 2 connecting rooms with the door between them open, and they check one room but not the other.

I always fear this kind of thing happening when I'm solo. but fortunately it hasn't.

It did happen to me before the pandemic when I was solo, while it was only a female housekeeper, I was startled. I don’t go solo anymore since my husband has retired but I still make sure to use the security latch now as soon as we walk into the room. It can be a PIA if they knock and wake you up during a nap or whatever but at least they don‘t surprise/startle you. Makes me wonder if they have ever caught anyone doing something amiss during these “inspections.”

They caught a credit card theft ring at AoA a few years ago. They were printing the cards with stolen identities in the rooms. But idk if it was caught by the room inspections or not

I don't like the inspections but I find if I let the front desk or the person who first comes to the room know when we will be out that day they are pretty understanding and will do the check while we are gone.

If it's amiss to be caught without pants on when they come in for inspections, then yes. 😄 And it's happened more than once. I'm just lucky I guess. 🙃

can you make a request that they do that inspection only during certain hours (like 9AM-6PM) while we are at the park?

I think that's generally when they do them, anyway. I've never experienced a security check, but we're out of the room from around 8:30 to park close.

same here. this upcoming trip we will be only one rest day, and still, we will be out of the room most of the day (pool, disney springs, etc)

Solo travelers have it easiest of all actually. Since you have no worries of needing to leave the latch off for others in the group to return later, just put the latch on when you enter the room. Problem solved.

Now, Disney can enter with the latch on if they have to, but it's not as easy as just opening the door and walking in unannounced. So that will at least slow them down enough for you to gather yourself if the need were to arrise.

We always lock all of the locks and latches when we enter the room automatically. But you are right about having to leave them open when another member of your party goes out of the room. I travel solo to WDW annually and have never had anyone walk in on me, probably because if the deadbolt is activated, regular housekeeping can not get in. I have had them knock and ask to do their inspection and I stand there holding the door open and they usually just take a couple of steps in and leave. But if you open the door to them, they will say that they have to personally unlock the door with their key card because it tracks them. That is how Disney knows that they actually went to the room.

Typically yes, they have tried to work with guests who try to work with them in return. If you have a time frame that you'd like to request, do so at the front desk.
One of the main hurdles is Disney has a lot of moving parts. Sometimes the parts don't all communicate with each other all that well.
In other words, shift change or supervisor changes can drop messages/info and your request that has been in place and worked for a few days can suddenly stop working.
The whole process can be very frustrating.
