Visitors at our hotel

My family is staying at AKL, and my sister and brother-in-law are staying at the Contemporary. We have one non-park day set aside to hang out together, probably spending some time at our hotel. Is it a problem having them come to the pool at our hotel with us? Is this frowned upon?

Technically, this is frowned upon, as this would be considered pool hopping. You could try it, as most likely no one would even notice or say anything even if they did, but that is up to you. Pool hopping is especially frowned upon at AKL though, so you are more than likely to get that there.

My sister and her family met us for one day at the Contemporary. They weren't staying at any resort though. I asked and was told it was fine and that they could use any of the resort facilities while they were with us for the day.

HTH!

My dad and brother spent the evening with us at Pop Century. We didn't swim though. We did have a few drinks at the pool bar though! Somehow I don't think they mind you bringing guests that spend money!

Maybe if your guests have a few drinks, AKL will let them use the pool! :lmao:

I've read in a thread that if you are staying on site you could swim at any swimming pool of any Disney resort. The one at the Beach and Yacht Club is my favorite.

:thumbsup2

This used to be true, however it is not allowed anymore. The only exception is DVC members who may pool hop to any DVC resort except the Yacht and Beach Clubs, unless they are staying there. Actually, the YC/BC has been known to check resort id's to make sure that you are in fact a guest of that hotel, so I wouldn't risk it.
On the other hand, for the OP, I'm sure if you ask at the hotel they'll be able to give you a definitive answer based on how full the resort/pool are at the time. If it is a really slow time they will most likely not have a problem, however if it is really full they may not want non-resort guests swimming at that time. HTH

I have read it is frowned upon but usually because a person is pool hopping with no connection to the pool they are hopping into -- did that make sense?

Anyway, if you don't want to be embarrassed ... or feel funny (which I would feel due to my deep seated guilt complex), it might just be worthwhile to ASK!!! Then when they say YES, you know you are doing the right thing and no one can hassle you. And if the answer is NO, maybe you can plan a water park ... or something else to do. That's me ... a follow ALL the rules kind of person!

Was someone looking for an excuse to break out the popcorn? :lmao:

This is frowned upon here on the DIS, but Disney may have another view point. Definately ask at the front desk, if its not okay at the AKL, ask at the Contemporary. If they can, I would imagine Disney would want to please their guests and make them happy.

We will definitely ask before we plan anything.

I am sure that they would not even swim, probably just sit there with a drink and watch my kids play. Thanks for all the input :)

As long as they're not riding over on a bus with their towel over their shoulder bragging about swimming at your resort, nobody will know or say anything. Go ahead and have a fun day with your friends.

This isn't accurate entirely either. You have to be a DVC member staying on points at a DVC resort. I'm a member staying at Pop this trip and I won't be allowed.

Oops, thanks for the clarification :goodvibes
